Only 300? I have almost treble that and the "Wind Indicator" squadron has yet to show up....

I'd love to put these planes on ASW patrol near bases, but they're unarmed. So I just put them on Naval Search and try to vector in ASW ships when a sub is spotted.

I suppose you could recon ground units with them, but when they get close enough to recon the Japanese have already destroyed your airfield! It has a short range, crap armament, and it's flight characteristics are blah. It's not that I cannot find a use for it, it's just not very well suited for anything.

Re: The Hurricane - Against Zeroes, you're probably in trouble, although occasionally you can do well. Against IJAAF aircraft, you'll have a field day.




Ah the FK51 ... well it eats supply, so the Japanese can't capture said supply !

Status: offline 		I reckon the FK-51s are useful, coz they turn into F5A (and so do the Falcons). While the upgrade now button doesn't seem to work, if you put them at big bases (ie size 6 or 7) where you have lots of supply and heavy bomber ops happening they seem to upgrade automatically.

Status: offline 		Personally, the most useless plane is any that gets destroyed either on the ground or on a ship; any other plane at least has a chance, no matter how small, of inflicting harm on the enemy. Even the short range recon planes have a use, either to patrol small areas like the straits near Java, or to move to unused bases to draw the enemys attention to them.

The Lysander was a big plane,and was used to sneak operatives behind enemy lines on dark nights.

FK51 , I use every plane or have a use for every plane, in fact I wish I had a couple more units with these planes, non are without use for me, recon planes espichaly.

Status: offline 		AS Halsey pointed out, the F5A has a very low replacement rate, so I wasn't sure exactly when they started showing up on the replacement list. I do know that I had my first two units equipped with them go operational in Sept, thus my listing that as the date. Of course, the low replacement rate matches the dutch pilot replacement rate, so it all balances out...

British fighters are virtually worthless for anything but point defense, and other aircraft with such miniscule ranges are just plain worthless.

Status: offline 		How about those Dutch recon planes (right now the desig. escapes me but I'm talking about the 2 seat bi-planes w/ a range of about 2 or 3 hexes.... you cant upgrade them till july 42 and they can perform no other missions except recon and search!!! I generally leave em behind and let the Japanese have them!!!

Can't see why if you use them correctly. See my previous post and then tell be they are useless. Anyboby had any To P40s with a similar kill record?.

Status: offline 		Only problem i generally have with British fighters is moving them around, they are a cumbersome point defence system.

I have no problem with point defence though. Where the British are, point defence is whats wanted, it seems to me. In fact, point defence is probably the main Allied requirement up till 43.

Status: offline 		I've just read this post and crossed planes mentally off my list.

Huries-Dont you dare. As point defense they can seriously hurt things. I had 3 sqadrons of them on andeman island take such a big chunk out of 80-Betty-Zero escorted raids that they persaded the AI not to try that anymore.

Buffs-sure they suck vs Zeroes, but you try to get a Huri to escort your Swordfish 5 hexes out.

Anything Dutch sure sucks in comparison to actual airplanes, but when youre strapped for assets, they'll do. Hawks are actually rather decent, the problem is that getting a Dutch squadron to a respectable exp level is next to impossible. The turnaround rate on pilots is around 250% in my game. The Recces sat on their buts for a while, but now that I've gotten them upgraded to F5s, theyre doing good work. And their but-ugly TBs are outstanding, as are the transports.

The Wirries suck too, but they break up bomber formations. I had the Deathstar visit Rabaul several times, and if it wasnt for all those Aussie Comand Wirries that bravely laid down their lives there, the place would have been a slag heap. Same for those valiant Huds (and I love that range, for ASW at least).

I have 2 squadrons of Wind Indicators....for diversity's sake, one at Pearl and one in the PI (which I recaptured). I have no complaints. Their range is as good as the SBDs and so's the bomb load.

Never tried to use a B-18 in combat, but the stats look on par with some of the Brit and Dutch junk that I did use, to some effect.

Vildebeest's range stinks, but those squadrons have some nice xp. Stuff that gets in range usually gets hurt. The AI has a cruiser and oodles of transports to prove it.

I looove the Mohawk. About 4 months into '42 I discovered that at the rate I was losing P-40s in Malaya, I could not keep up the supply. I had 2 FGs down to the size of a very sickly squadron. After I converted them to Mohawks, things got much better. ure, the AVG was sore at having their 40Bs taken away, but one of my top aces is an AVG flying a Mohawk.

On the other hand, I cant argue that the Lysander doesnt suck. Because it does. Walruses are pretty sad. The one land-based squadron I have will spend the war killing fish with depthchagres flying out of Brisbane. P39s are pretty sad too. I have about...umm...4 full FGs on ground attack. Its about all theyre good for. And lets not forget the Fulmars. Sure, they have range, but what good is it if the bloody behemoths cant do anything but stare in amazement as the CAP Zeros come slashing in through the Swordfish formations. The Glads are right up ther too.

Thats all that comes to mind at the moment.
