I have accelerated some ships as the Japanese player. For ships already under construction things work as the manual claims: they use up 3 times the naval ship points they would than if they were being built at the normal rate.

For ships that are not currently being built, however, things turn out to be different. When accelerating a ship that is not currently using naval ship points, instead of using 3 times the durability worth of naval ship points per turn, the ship only uses naval ship points equal to its durability.

I think this might be a bug. OTOH, it could be intended. But that would give the Japanese player a huge advantage. (It also kinda invalidates my spread sheet. )

by design ... once it comes into range, the 3x will kick in and really start hurting you.

The 1x rate vs free when it is far out is still a serious cost that you really need to think about spending.

ie: planners are cheaper then tieing up the ship yards

Thanks for the answer. I don't feel guilty now about using all my extra ship points that I didn't realize I would have available.

Feel free ... ship points or plane points or army points ... doesn't matter in the end which you choose to use them for as the big bad Allies are coming sooner or later
