Status: offline 		Weekly Assessment of Operations on Mainland Asia: 6th Dec to 23rd Dec, 1941

With the greatest repects I submit my assessment of operations on mainland Asia for approval by the high command

Malaya: Our troops have made steady progess through the peninsula. The allied troops gave way at Alor Star before a mixed army under the command of Lt General Ymashita of the 25th Army. The capture of this large airbase now provides a staging post for our larger bombers and with the arrival of the 12th Aviation Regiment our bombers will relocate hence. In the eastern prong of the attack on the peninsula the 18th Div entered Kuantan. Kuantan has seen extensive naval bonbardment and when Lt General Mataguchi has disposed of his troops as he sees fit the attack will commence.

Submarine activity around the peninsula has yet again been been negligible with one destroyer being damaged by torpedo.

Burma: Our forces have made excellent progress with the capture of Victoria Point, Tavoy, Moulmein and in a daring airborne raid Rangoon. The allied troops have so far refused to engage though currently 2 Indian divisions defend the Sittang bridge north of Rangoon. While the 55th Div prepares to assault the bridge elements of the 33rd division are being air transported to Rangoon in order to out flank the allied forces. In addition, the 1st Tank regiment has been ordered North to cut the route between Rangoon and Mandalay which should force the Indian division to retreat North to Akyab.

China: Momentous events in China. Owing to the brave actions of the 1st Paras the withdrawl of 10 chinese infantry corps attacking Canton was delayed suifficnetly to allow our forces to take Changsha. The Chinese eventually withdrew from Changsha in the face of overwhelming odds and in order to avoid encirclement. The eventual withdrawl of the forces from Canton allowed our assault engineers to move into Hong Kong and the battle was quickly brought to a close, with the city falling on the 22nd.

In order to reduce enemy effectiveness the reduction of the enemy resource production centres in Chungking has been ordered. Air units of the IJA have begun this process by staging night bombing raids. With the capture of Changsha, the prospect of cutting the Burma road within the next month, the immenent investiture of Yenen and Wuchow and the destruction of resource production at Chungking the supply situation of the Chinese corps will soon beccome critical.

Our forces in China have now been ordered to neutralise the airbases at Hengchow and Ichang and to prepare to enter the cities of Wuchow and Yenen

With the capture of Alor star, Rangoon, Hong Kong and Changsha all of our immediate objectives have been realised. Our armies will now concentrate on achieving there second stage objectives in all theatres. It should be noted our forces have still to bring the allies to battle in any theatre, something which will need to be done in ordre to allow the enemy to be destroyed in detail. However, their refusal to fight means all our forces are still operating at near peak effiency

Finally, the heavy mauling of the AVG in the first week of the campaign paid dividends this week as AVG activity in all theatres has been negligible, though elements of the AVG/B have been encountered in Ichang within the last few days. We assume the majority of the AVG has been withdrawn to allow it to rebuild.

Merry Christmas 1941!
Many Allies subs were attacked but none were hit. A few ground combats, but no bases captured this turn.
The DD Oshio expired today, less than 200 miles from Saipan.

Feurer Krieg Area Report
The last ground troops were landed on Rabaul. We were planning to cautiosly attack tomorrow, but the Allies at the base surprisingly charged our beachhead today! Apparently they underestimated the amount of forces landed and paid heavily for the attack. 20 Japanese casulties versus 600+ for the Allies. Caution has been tossed, and a shock attack ordered for tomorrow to take advantage of the high distrubtion the Allied forces likely possess.
Allies firing a 75mm gun towards Japanese beachhead prior to a futile charge.
The forces at Lunga will move by boat to the western end of Guadacanal to see if the Allied surface ships wish to come back.
The PG Shoei Maru was scuttled south of Wake, and another Cruiser arrive safely at Kwaj. On a side note, Kwajalein is crawling with Allied subs and several ASW TF's have taken shots, but not dead subs yet.
Other areas are busy with logistical work, but no major offensives launched yet. All CS's and several AV's, ML's, and CA's have had their float planes upgraded to Alfs.

Sub Ops:
I-153 was very active today, attacking the AK Ngow Hok on the surface, in the broad daylight, near Mannargudi. Apparently the captain of the I-153 had no intention of letting the ship escape, firing several spreads of torps and deck gun shots. The ship was hit by three torps and two deck gun shells and sunk rapidly. The I-153, out of ammo will head for Saipan to reload.
Also, radio signals were detected in some areas of the DEI, subs nearby have moved to cover possible routes these ships may take. Convoy sighted by Glen south of Pearl Harbor.
I-154 continues to take on water, unlikely to make it to Rangoon, but will stay on course and cross our fingers.

War Report 12/26/41
Small air battles here and there, Hurricanes engaged over Singapore, but experienced Zero's took no losses in that air battle.
SS KXIV hit by depth charge near Taan, but damage seems minor.
Kuantan was captured in a well executed attack today.
B-17's over Miri had amazing accuracy, three B-17 put three bombs into the AP Koan Maru.

Feurer Krieg Area Report
Ground forces in Rabaul easily swept the Allies out of the base today and captured it. The heavy cruisers at Rabaul will now take an NLF force on a high speed dash to grab Gasmata before any allied units can retreat there. Other NLF units will now scatter to grab the remaining bases in the Solomons and New Guinea. The 65th Bde will rest in Rabaul and prep for Port Moresby in case High Command orders us to attack that base. Base forces and engineers should arrive within a week to Rabaul and start building it up into a strong base.
Fuel has finally arrived to Baker Island and units will start to get organized for the assault on Canton Island.
We had a scare near Kwaj. As mentioned lots of enemy subs there. The SS Cachalot took aim at a tanker fully loaded with fuel (part of a large fuel convoy of 5 full tankers and 1 AO). Thankfully the torps missed and the tanker made it into port at Kwajelein.
The valuable radar-equiped Kitakami cruiser safely made it into port at Kwaj today along with the Kashima. The only remaining cruisers at sea are the Yubari which is less than 60 miles from Kwaj and will make it in. The other is the Tatsuta which could possibly sink, as it has a lot of damage and attempts at stopping flooding have thus far been unsuccessful. It is about 100 miles from port, it will be a close call.
Light Cruiser Kashima pulls into port at Kwajelein and takes on repair personnel.


Sub Ops:
I-154 only took on a bit of water today.
Radio intel at Lautem yesterday was correct. I-165 intercept a convoy which included an AS and AD ship. Unfortunately no targets were hit as the escorts made short work of the I-165, sinking the sub with multiple depth charge hits.
Convoy spotted south of Pearl, but based on its high speed, likely a destroyer group, so we will not intercept.

Zeros over Singapore again encountered some Hurricanes and again suffered no losses.
Although the Hurricane is well designed, experienced Japanese pilots in Zeros easily outperform their British rivals.

The SS KXIV was sunk near Taan, and the SS Permit was hit by deptch charge off of Aparri, not sunk yet though.
A couple airstrikes on the mini-KB near Borneo were unsuccessful.
Several Naval strikes in the slot near the Malayan Penisula, lots of Lilys and Sallys attack three AK's, with two of them (AK Empire Bond and AK Solviken) recieving several bomb hits. The Empire Bond was confirmed sunk, and the other ship will likely be scuttled or sink.

Feurer Krieg Area Report
A USN CV showed up south of Baker Island today and damaged some ships, most notably the CL Katori. Based on the squadrons spotted it is likely the CV Saratoga. KB is only 2 days away and will sail east to intercept. If the enemy carrier lingers it will possible finish off the Katori, but then is more likely to get caught by KB. There is also at risk a tanker unloading fuel at Baker. It will try to offload as much as possible rather than head for open water. The only other targets in the area are PG, PC, MSW and AP boats.
Wallis Island was captured today, and troops landed on Gasmata for an assault tomorrow.
Wallis Island contains a central lagoon excellent for parking float planes.


The CL Tatsuta pulled into Kwajelain at 80 sys, 94 float. Hopefully the facilities there will be able to keep the ship afloat.
The cruisers near Rabaul will head to Truk and rendezvous with other cruisers, CS's and such to form an offensive surface/air fleet to support the assault on Canton Island, likely before the middle of January.

Sub Ops:
Some convoys spotted but other than that little activity today. I-154 continues towards Rangoon.

Feurer Krieg Area Report
Plenty of action in my area today.
The Lexington moved even closer to Tarawa/Makin, now located northwest of Baker Island. As predicted they finished off the CL Katori and several troop transports (all empty). A few strike planes aimed for the tanker, but thankfully they missed. It continues to unload fuel as fast as possible.
Along with the Lexington, the Saratoga showed up near Wallis and sunk an empty troop tranport as well as a minesweeper.
Although it is never fun to lose a cruiser, both US carriers are nearly in range of KB. If they move west we may be able to hit them tomorrow. OTherwise, KB will be in a position tomorrow to either go north after the Saratoga, or south after the Lexington. The weather is forecast to be clear so the next 2-3 days could prove to be interesting.
In other news, AP's are loading up at Rabaul for the Solomons blitz, and Tassafaronga and Gasmata were captured today.
Fleet movements in the Southeast Pacific.


Sub Ops:
I-154 still floats.
RO-67 attacked the AK Adelong in near Cairns (near the break in the reef) and hit with one torpedo. The ship did not sink outright, but was on fire. It is a fairly obvious place to patrol, so the RO-67 will move off for a few days in case Allied ASW TF's are sent to the area.

Some very large and well coordinated IJAAF/IJNAF strikes in China and the PI today, each having nearly 150 aircraft involved!
Ki-21 Sallys prepare to takeoff from Wuhan to bomb Hengchow. 105 Sallys and 45 Nates took part in the raid.

A notable incident occured today - 4 lonely Nates on CAP over some IJA units in rural China were attacked and outnumbered by the AVG. Not only did the Nates survive, they destroyed 1 P-40B! Clearly experience is winning the day in China at the moment since the AVG was depleted early on by General Mantill's actions. (See scoreboard below for screenshot)
No Hurricanes over Singapore today, they are likely licking their wounds.
A Martin 139 managed to put a bomb into the Zuiho. Not in danger of sinking, but when combined with the hit to Ryujo, we certainly aren't catching any breaks with our CVL's.

Feurer Krieg Area Report
The Lexington stayed just east of Baker today, hitting more of our small ships and finally locating the Tanker Gen'yo Maru. The tanker was hit, and although not in danger of sinking yet, its remaining fuel cargo was lost (around 7000-8000 fuel). Several PCs were hit and sunk, the DD Kurosio and PC Takuna Maru were scuttled. The Lexington has been going hard for nearly a month, hopefully it is getting low on sorties and any strikes against KB will be less effective for that.
Saratoga has vanished from the Wallis Island area and the remainging ships there should be able to make it back to Makin Island for repairs.
KB is now withing strike range of the present Lexington location. If Lexington heads east though, it will get away. If it goes any other direction we should get a shot at it. Weather forcast in the area is clear for tomorrow.
IJN troops landed on Russell island, three various landing forces leaving port tomorrow to mop up the Solomons and New Britain area.
Base force arrived on Wake today. Mavis and Alf patrols have been put in place there. The South Seas Detachment will rest a bit longer while waiting for a replacement garrison force and transports. Still early planning but the Detachment will be used either to attack Canton Island or Milne Bay.
At Kwajelein, with a Fleet HQ, an AR and plenty of supplies and fuel now present, repairs are proceeding well on all the cruisers damaged at Wake. The more damaged ships will head to home island yards soon, the lesser damaged ships will be included in the OOB for Canton Island operations. Many of the ships at Kwaj came into port with several damaged guns, all of these (except for the Yubari) have been fixed.

Sub Ops:
I-154 actually reduced its flooding today! It is very near to Rangoon now.
The AK Adelong, hit yesterday by the RO-67, sunk, providing the RO-67 its first credited kill.
Some subs are being arranged to picket Guadalcanal until garrisons arrive, other are moving to picket Port Moresby to prevent possible reinforcement.
I-122 leaving Saigon to mine Akyab per Gen. Mantill's request.

Relatively quiet today. Some heavy airstrikes on Allied airfields in China were successful.
Another AK was plastered by Lilys in Malaya.
Ground forces are in Manilla fighting against a very large Allied ground force.
Air attacks on miniKB were unsuccessful, although a 250lb bomb did take out an AA gun onboard the BB Yamashiro.
Heavy armor protects the Yamashiro from a bomb hit near Tarakan.

Feurer Krieg Area Report
The Emperor was not pleased today as the US CV's slipped away. The Lexington was spotted just east of Canton Island, and subs may get a chance to hit it if the group goes back to Pearl Harbor.
KB is very low on fuel after the sprint and will now head up to Kwajelein to refuel and repair some system damage. It will be on station for any CV appearances near Wake or Baker again. It will remain there until Canton Island Operations have concluded.
US B-17's are now on station at Canton and are bombing Baker Island. Based on the targeting, it appears the allies may think we wish to use it as an airfield, but that is not the case. Canton Island will serve as a much better airfield if the offensive suceeds.
All available assets have been examined and the OOB is being prepared for the Canton Island attack - Operation ENRAI (hopefully I got the translation right). Details will be posted once planning is complete. So far two light cruisers have been request from Tann and Saigon, and General Mantill has okayed their departure. All other needed assets are under my command already.
Two AP's that had managed to sail all the way to Kwaj pulled into port today, only to expire just as repair ships were closing in. The AP Marsue Maru and Nichiai Maru both sunk in shallow waters near Kwajelein.
Near Baker, the PC Kyo Maru #6 expired, and the AP Katsure Maru and AK Hirokawa Maru were both evacuated and scuttled.
Landings in Kavieng and Buka.
Russell Island captured.
Russell Island natives, future beneficiaries of 'Asian Prosperity'.


Sub Ops:
I-154 will enter Rangoon tomorrow. Stuck between a rock and hard place - there are many enemy mines at Rangoon, but flooding is still dangerously high and no other ports are near enough. With any luck, I-154 will dodge the mines and make it safely into port. Any mine hits will easily sink the heavily damaged ship.
All quite in other areas.

In general, progress in the theatre has been slow this week while support troops race into positions captured by our combat troops last week. Progress last week was so rapid in all theatres a pause was called to allow support personel to get into positions. This has allowed our troops time to prepare for new offensives across Asia

Malaya: The 18th Div easily swept aside opposition in Kuantuan which fled towards Malacca. The 18th Div gives pursuit, with the aim of encircling troops in Taiping and Kuala Lumpa. The combined army under Lt General Yamshita is trying to hold three Indian Div in Taiping untill the encirclement is complete.

Bad weather across the peninsulas has hampered flight operations this week but there were some noticable succeses. British Hurricane fighter-bombers were encountered in the war for the first time, over Singapore. These paid a heavy price against our Zero's with the Hurricane squadron all but wiped out with no losses to our Zero's. In addition, the British had sent a number of cargo vessels to try to rescue troops cut off on the peninsula. All ships spotted so far have been sunk.

Burma: On the final day of the year troops of the 55th Div stormed the Sittang bridges capturing them intact. They were supported by elements of the 33rd Div from the South, which had been airlifted from Tavoy to Rangoon. Combined with the highly experienced shock troops of the 22nd SNLF overall losses were minor. A dash across country by the first tank regiment has ensured troops fleeing the battle will not be able to reach Mandalay, but must follow the Malarial invested coast road to Akyab. Battle still rages on the west bank of the Sittang but victory is expected soon.

China: While several divisions secured the major gain of Changsha this week others were redeployed to the Homan area were the next major offensive is set to begin. The majority of the southern Chinese army is now bottled up between Kweilin and Hengchow. In addition, this week troops also entered the cities of Wuchow and Yenen, brining supply production in these centres to a halt. In order to put more pressure on the already crippled chinese economy extensive bombing of various locations was undertaken.

Status: offline 		I will put up some monthly statistics when I get the chance, as well as some screenies of the major areas of fighting to show how things are going. I'll try to continue doing so once a month. For now though, here is the 12/31 report.

War Report 12/31/41
The last day of 1941 has been a good one for the empire. Our holdings have increased in several areas, and more expansion is to come!
Some minor airstrikes here and there but mostly quite. A group of 6 enemy PT boats made a profitable (for them) attack on our fleet at Tarakan. The PT boats put a torpedo into one destroy and one AP, and only lost one of their own in the exchange. A B-17 also hit an AP near Tarakan.
Lily's finished off the AK Herstein off Malacca.

Feurer Krieg Area Report
Today was notable for the first Allied counterattack in the Pacific. Allied forces landed at Lunga, and took a fair amount of casulties consider the island only had only a few men stationed on the island (no LCU was present). Spotters report a pair of AP's still offshore. Several submarines that were moving to block the route to Lunga anyway were ordered in to sink the offending Allied transports.
Also, aviation support is at Rabaul and will be unloading through the night for morning flights. A Chutai of Zeros, a Datai of Nells and a Mavis Chutai have all landed safely (although one Zero was lost due a landing miscommunication). The Nells are easily in range of the ships at Lunga also and will attempt to sink them.
A Daitai of Nell torpedo bombers on their way to a new home at Rabaul.

One or two US CV groups were spotted moving east away from Canton Island, and Mavis Recon on Canton shows several small TFs gathered at Canton Island.
Buka and Kavieng were captured, landings occured at Sag Sag and Talasea.
Operation Enrai preparations continue, and initial plans have been approved by GHQ.
Also, The CL's Kitakami, Tenryu and Kingasa, along with the DDs Uzuki, Oboro, and Yuzuki, all of which were heavily damaged at Wake, will leave Kwajalein tomorrow with a pair of escorting DD's to enter the repair yards at Mainzuru.
Claudes and Nells at Kwajalein have been upgraded to Zeros and Betties.


Sub Ops:
A couple convoys spotted, some attacks will be attempted.
I-17 managed to escape detection by 6 Allied DD's.
I-154 has safely arrive in port at Rangoon. The ship avoided all mines on its way into the dock, flooding will be addressed and then the sub will being repairs either at Rangoon, or if Singapore has been captured it may sail to the repair yards there.

New year's Day!
Very few air missions due to weather in some parts, tired air units in some, and lack of targets in others.
Allied sub SS Searaven took a shot at an AP, but missed.
Scattered B-17 attacks on ships were ineffective.
Ships moving into Manilla to bombard allied forces took fire from guns at Bataan, sinking the DD Sagi.
Patrol boats continue to raid at Tarankan. Another AP hit by torpedo, and another enemy PT boat sunk.
Taiping captured as allied forces flee leaving the base open for the taking.

Feurer Krieg Area Report
AK Canton Maru sinks before it could reach Makin.
The 2nd NZ Cav Bde captures Lunga. Current plans call for the island to be retaken late in January.
Mines to be put down at Wake Island tomorrow.
Talasea and Sag Sag captured today. Landings at Buin, Munda, and Torokina.
Most activity confined to gathering forces at Kwajelein for Operation Enrai. Planned OOB for Enrai has been approved by GHQ and posted below. Timetables to be arranged once forces have gathered in Kwajelein. Ground units have been informed of their destinations and have begun preparing.
Invasion plans are fairly straightforward. Bombardment force will attempt to damage airfield to lessen B-17 threat (the airfield is already too small for B-17s to fly fully loaded.) Next the Invasion force and its air cover (Kaga) will move in to land. If heavy resistance is encountered the 'Fiji Reserve' will be brought in. If resitance is light, the reserve will set out to land at Fiji, meeting up with the Kaga enroute. The entire time, KB & replenshiment will loiter either to the east or west depending on last spotted US CV locations. Presently that would be to the east, but that could change by the time the operation is launched.

Sub Ops:
RO-63 attacked the allied ships landing troops at Lunga, scoring one hit on the AK Irenee Du Pont, and one hit on the AK Sagadahoc. The CL Achilles was spotted as well, and with IJN submarines surrounding the area, chances are good we will get more attacks tomorrow.
No escorts seem to be present, so the RO-63 will stay on station at Lunga and if the Allied ships do not leave, they will be hit again.
Due to many PT boats at Tarankan and Balikpapan, subs have been ordered to move further south closer to the opening of the Maccasar straight.

Not too much going on today.
The new torpedo/radar cruiser Oi was sunk by the guns of Bataan while returning from a bombardment mission at Manilla. The BB Fuso was also damaged.
The allied sub SS Pickerel was hit by multiple depth charges southeast of Camranh Bay, hopefully it will not make it home.
The first ground assault on Tarakan occured today, with indecisive results.

Allied PT boats again raided our fleet at Tarakan, but 3 of them were sunk today, and the bunch that attacked the carrier fleet retreated before launching torpedoes.

Feurer Krieg Area Report
Organization and airbase constructions continue in the Pacific. Small bases captured in the Solomons: Munda, Green Island, Buin and Torokina all captured today.
The PG Ikunta Maru expired near Makin today.

Sub Ops:
After the heroic voyage of the I-154 into port at Rangoon, with amazing anti-flood actions while at sea, mine avoidance when entering port, and then a couple days of further repairs, the I-154 sunk under mysterious circumstances in port at Rangoon. A group of British 'civilians' were captured nearby shortly after the ship sunk and they are suspected of sabotage. They will be sent to the Ofuna camp and properly interrogated and punished.

Sub commanders near Guadalcanal excerised caution today and did not attack US ships. While general fleet orders are to put caution before valor in the submarine fleet, it is unclear why these sub commanders did not engage today considering the apparent lack of escorts. Perhaps tomorrow will be better.

KB enters port for R&R, otherwise mostly quiet.

As hoped, the RO-63 fired off its last spread of torpedos, scoring two hits on the AP Royal T Frank, apparently loaded with enemy troops judging by the amount of casulties spotted.
RO-63 in 1924. 18 Years later, as 1942 opened, the RO-63 hit 3 Allied ships in as many days, two AKs and one loaded AP.

Other submarines have begun to formup a blockade around Canton Island.

Allied SS Sailfish was sunk by depth charges off Kagoshima today.
SS Sailfish, sunk 1/4/42.

The poor DD Yukikaze, which had taken multiple torpedos from PT boats in the last couple days, today was bombed by TIVs and finally sunk. The ship put up a good fight and it is a shame to see it go.
Sallys/Lilys in Malaya finish off a couple ships they hit yesterday, the AK Empire Antelope and the AK Empire Chaucer both were sunk.

Feurer Krieg Area Report
Pretty quiet. Alf's based on a floatplane tender at Buin are starting to spot Allied ships at Lunga. The AV will move to Munda to allow for better spotting of the Allied fleet to continue vectoring subs, which as shown below continues to be rather effective in this area.
Another light cruiser was stabilized at Kwajalein and sent back to the Home Islands with a PC escort for final repairs.
Based on sub actions below, it would seem the allies are pulling troops back from Lunga, but not sure exactly what is happening, see below for more details.

Sub Ops:
The best news of the day is the submarine actions near Lunga.
In the morning darkness, the RO-68 took aim at the AP Esperance Bay about 60 miles southeast of Lunga, unfortuantely it missed, but the Esperance wasn't off the hook yet.
In the daylight hours, Commander K. Tsukuda of the I-160 wasn't going to be outdone by U.Torisaki of the RO-63 (who hit 3 ships in previous days).
Early in the day, the I-160 took aim at the AP Manunda, hitting with one torpedo, and causing casulties indicating that the ships was loaded. With loaded ships in the area, Commander Tsukuda took the sub under and continued to stalk the unescorted convoy.
Later in the day, the Esperance Bay was found to be somewhat seperated from the rest of the convoy, having been busy doing manuevers after its torpedo scare from the RO-68. Commander Tsukuda could see no escorts nearby and charged the doomed Esperance Bay on the surface, firing torpedo after torpedo, scoring 4 hits, exploding ammo stored by the troops onboard and sending the ship down fast, along with many men and a couple guns and vehicles of the No. 106 RAN Base Force (the units ID being picked up on a hastily sent, unencoded radio message).
AP Esperance Bay in happier days. It was sunk by the SS I-160 on 1/4/42 while carrying elements of the No106 RAN Base Force.

The AP Royal T Frank (one of RO-63 victims) was spotted under the waves on the beach at Lunga, having sunk earlier today.
I-160, having hit two loaded APs, one of which sunk, is out of ammo and headed back to Truk. There are still more subs blocking the way home for the ships at Lunga though, and hopefully tomorrow will bring more kills.

Considering that the RO-68 encountered the Esperance Bay before the I-160 did, the ships was obviously leaving, but it was leaving with a base force on board. It is unclear if the base force was ever even unloaded, or if the Allies had planned to build up the base, and then changed their minds. Time will tell, three NLF forces will be landing at Lunga once they have rested and rebuilt at Truk for a couple weeks.

Feurer Krieg Area Report
Allied ships at Guadalcanal begin to run for home, looks like Noumea. 6 Alf planes from the AV based in Munda attack a pair of slow AP's but failed to land any hits. Both air units on the AV have been ordered to attack tomorrow, with sighting being called in from a Glen spotting plane further south.
Although typically used for scouting, the Alf can carry 2x60kg or 4x30kg bombs, useful for nonarmored transport and cargo ships.


Sub Ops:
Near Guadalcanal, all subs there are heading south full speed to pursue some departing allied ships. The Glen will stay put and vector attacks from Alfs and submarines for another day or two.
Southwest of Pearl Harbor, the I-170 attacked the AK Eldorado on the surface, hitting with one torpedo, and 4 deck gun shots, plus raking the crew and tower with its AA guns. The cargo ship was heavily damaged but the I-170 did not confirm its sinking.

An oil tanker at Brunei is hit by T.IVa's from Samarinda, on fire, but no flooding as of yet. Plus all the oil did not burn off yet.

Nells, escorted by Zero's hit Port Moresby today. The Wirraway CAP was cut through with little trouble, and the Nells did almost as much damage to the Wirraways and the Zeros. THe bombing run scored little damage however.
Australia's little wonder, isn't so wonderful.

Troups landed on the western end of Guadacanal and will stay there simply as a deterent until the rested NLF forces return from Truk.

Sub Ops:
The AK Eldorado, hit by the I-170 yesterday, was confirmed sunk.
Other submarines near Noumea continue to give chase to the Allied ships heading south from Lunga.

Large scale bombardments in China, costly ground assaults in the northern PI.
An airstrike of 20 Zeros and 17 Bettys attacked a ship near Akyab. 15 Allied planes (Hurricanes and Mohawk IV's) met the attackers and were either shot down or chased off by the Zeros for the loss of none of our pilots. The Betty's proceeded to put four torpedos into the AK Empire Tarpon, sinking the ship instantly.
The RAF Mohawk IV, supposedly more capable than the Wirraway, but poorly trained pilots are still no match for the IJN elite.

Unescorted Martins attacking mini KB near Borneo took some losses as well, and landed no hits.

Sub Ops:
All quiet.
An AS has now been moored at Rabaul and that base will be providing an even farther reach for the submarine fleet.

More ships spotted at Lunga! Alf's have been ordered to attack with bombs, if able, ASAP.
Zero's and Nell's have little trouble in the air above Port Moresby, but again the Nells fail to hit anything in the docks. The Zeros knock down a trio of Wirraways.


Sub Ops:
Due to the spotting of enemy ships at Lunga, the RO-68 was ordered in for the attack instead of going back to Rabaul. Another R boat is on its way back from reloading in Truk and will be at Lunga in 2-3 days if the Allied ships are still there.
Also, the I-166 managed to hit the AP President Madison in the middle of the Banda Sea, doing heavy damage to the large ship.

More ships near Lunga. Alf's launched a strike, but were unable to locate their targets. Another unit of 9 Alf's has been flown in, bringing the total force up to 21 float planes that can hit ships at Lunga and slightly beyond.
Engineers at Rabaul declared the airstrip extension there officially complete. The longer airstrip will allow the Nells based there to carry torpedos in their strikes. They will also be aiming for ships near Lunga.

Sub Ops:
No action today, subs enroute to Lunga, and Canton Island.
The I-25 Glen sub will make a dash between Java and Sumatatra tonight to get out into the Indian Ocean, where it will spot vector sub group 10, consisting of I-156, I-157, and I-158.

Large airstrikes against Johore Bharu, Manilla and Ichang. The strike against Ichang destroyed many I-153c's on the ground.
Sallys turning for home after hammering the airfields of Ichang.

A strike of Betty's on Tarakan got intercepted by Brewsters and two Bettys were shot down, two more were damaged and crashed on the way home.

Feurer Krieg Area Report
Alfs at Munda launched strikes against Allied ships today. One group attacked the AK Nevadan and managed to land a 30kg bomb, setting the ship on fire. The other group attacked a small group of ships at Lunga, including the light cruiser Raleigh, no hits, but the pilots are surviving and gaining some valuable experience.

Operation Enrai is very close to starting. A group of AP's has been dispatched to Tarawa to load up the Maizuru 2nd SNLF force, and the South Seas Detachment has begun unloading at Kwajelein for a couple days rest and reorganizaion before loading up for the offensive. Presently we expect to officially begin operations in less than one week.

Sub Ops:
The I-25 had no trouble entering the Indian Ocean and has already started spotting ships at ports in Java and Sumatra.
Between Johnson Island and Palmyra, the I-168 attacked the isolated AK Admiral Y. Williams on the surface, using only two torpedos (thus allowing it to stay on patrol), and hit several times with the 3.9 inch deck gun. The cargo ship sunk quickly.
The I-68 (later renamed I-168) circa 1934.

In less happy news, the I-159, tailing ships from Lunga to Noumea, entered the shallows around Noumea, hoping to catch unescorted tranports. Unfortunately, a DD and an APD were present and depth charged the sub in shallow water. It was sunk in short order. Another sad loss for the IJN sub fleet.
At Lunga, the CL Raleigh, a DD and an APD have been spotted, so all subs have been ordered out of the shallows into the surrounding deep water approached to Lunga.

Feurer Krieg Area Report
Alfs at Munda continued launched strikes against the CL Raleigh and its esorts at Lunga today. No hits, 1 Alf destroyed during the attack run, another crashed on the way back to Munda.

Sub Ops:
The I-162 hit the AP Van Riebeek east of Bali, setting the ship on fire and damaging it significantly.
Also, the AK Sagahoc, hit by the RO-63 at Lunga a few days back, was confirmed sunk.

It’s been more then a month since we entered the war, and today I was called to the Emperor to report our daily advances, like I thought (I was doing that since first day). But now it was different. Emperor was in his garden taking care of some bonsai tree, I think, and it was a bit different from our day-to-day routine, because usually he met me in his cabinet. He asked in a hush voice, not looking on me, how is our progress on my opinion. I started to read usual set of numbers from the front lines and from adm. Krieg’s analytics department daily reports, but he interrupted me with a soft hand gesture. He said “No, please don’t tell me details, later. Now I want to hear what do you think about the whole situation in the Empire. What are our chances in this war?”. I took a pause and said: “Well, we knew from the beginning that our chances are not bright, not bright at all even if we destroy Pearl Harbour fleet utterly. I wasn’t such optimistic in my calculations, but even if I accept the results of 7th December attack as a lost opportunity, this month saw our plans suffer from hard unexpected losses that may seem not to restrict us to expand now, but can provide a lot of difficulties in the future. We are facing tough and clever enemy, wich wasn’t unexpected by me, and permanent shortage of luck, wich is the factor we cann’t affect. We need to convert more industry to fulfill our production requests and…”… another hand gesture, more impatient this time. “This will be certainly done, but that’s not what I wanted to talk about. I know this month was very hard and exhausting, we took some losses; soon we’ll take even more in our upcoming operations, so I decided to decorate some of our leaders to strengthen our morale level. There’ll be a ceremony in a half an hour from now, general Mantill and admiral Krieg are already awaiting. They absolutely deserved their rewards, but I wanted to ask you: what kind of award should I give to you? Your task in PI was to strike like a snake from all coasts, to capture their bases, to cut through their forces with maneuverable and strong units and force them to surrender. You was given enough troops for this task, but you requested twice more from home island and even with such enormous force you stuck in their defences, losing temp, supply, people and armaments. So, how should I award you? Or, probably, you can give some gift…” Silence fall. I heard a sound of starting rain. Raindrops struck on the trees and ground with a wondrous sound… did I ever heard it before? I got on my nees and bow my head before the Emperor: “I do think I should present you my head for that, my Emperor”. “If this could improve the situation, I should accept this”, he said. “But I got another use for your head right now. I want you to return to Philippines and to take under control all military and supply operations on this islands to make sure that we occupy them. That would be best reward you can ask me for.”

So I wasn’t present on the decoration ceremony that took place later. General Mantill received from the hands of Emperor the Great Eastern Asia War medal

for his brilliant war actions in Malaysia, Thailand and Burma, especially for capture of Rangoon.

Admiral Krieg was awarded with Order of Rising Sun (5th grade)

for his under-see actions and amphibious operations in southern seas, especially for Rabaul operation.

Status: offline 		Great post Alex, although I think you are being to hard on yourself. I think you are just giving those Allies a false send of victory in the PI so they will make a tactical error in their overconfidence.

Air strikes continue in the usual places.
Over Akyab, a significant air combat took place, several Bettys and Nells, escorted by 20 Zeros were met by 30 Hurricanes and 9 Mohawks. The Zeros did well, considering the numbers involved, but several enemy fighters still hit the bombers.
The CVL Shoho was commissioned today in Tokyo.
Glen subs near Tjilitap provided targeting information to Bettys based in Borneo. A Betty strike was launched, hitting the AK Silindoeng, TK Talang Aka, and AK Tjikarang.
In the PI, Bettys attacked and sunk the AK Princess of Negros northwest of Cagayan.
The AP Tatumiya Maru was hit by the SS O-19 northeast of Jesselton.

More Alf strikes near Lunga. The CL Raleigh and escorts are headed south back to Noumea it would appear. No hits again today.

Sub Ops:
The RO-62 was discovered while providing close to shore recon at Midway. A large group of Allied DM ships depth charged and sunk the RO-62 in shallow water.
Southwest of Los Angeles, the I-10 (a Glen sub) went beyond its spotter duties and attacked the AK Admiral Laws. The I-10 hit with several torpedos, sinking the ship rapidly.
The I-10, primary responsible for vectoring attack subs to targets, on 1/12/42, it attacked and sunk an Allied freighter.

General mantill


With the greatest repects I submit my assessment of operations on mainland Asia for approval by the high command

I apologise to there excellencies for my delay in suibmitting my weekly report. I have gained experience of the privations our troops face from Malaria, obtained during a visit to the recently captured Taung Gyi.

Malaya: The english have avoided all attempts at encirclement on the peninsula. However, this failure to give battle has led to the enemy being swiftly rolled up. Elements of the 23rd mixed brigade have just entered Jahore Baru where a few enemy units remain. The rest having retreated to Singapore. Once the troops have assembled and appropraite support available the seige of Singapore will begin. The island has now been completely isolated and no further aid or supplies can reach it. No enemey air units have been encountered in this period over Malaya. It is believed that all remenets were withdrawn to India.

Burma: Our troops have advanced from Rangoon to edge of Manadalay and currently concentrate there force on the banks of the Irrawady preparing for the final assult which will secure lower Burma. On a recent mission to bomb the airfields at Akyab our aircraft encountered very heavy resistance, being intercepted by several squadrons of Hurricane fighter bombers. We inflicted many confiirmed kills and caused some damage to there airfield, though with signifcant losses. While this intially appears a set-back to our advance through the peninsula it also offers a unique opportunity, knowing where our enemy is concentrated.

China: After the capture of Changsha our forces were ordered to attack along the Homan-Sian axis to isolate Northern China from he rest of the country. To provide cover for this operation forces were also ordered to enter Yenen and Wuchow. This was done partly as initial feints but primarily to prevent the resource centres in these cities functioning. (Our air campaign to destroy the resource production in Chungking has also shown excellent dividends, with current recon estimates indicating half the production of the city has been destroyed.)

The main attack has made excellent progress and our forces are currently reducing the Chinese in Homan. All defending corps in the outlying areas have been swept away. In order to speed the attack in Homan elements from the Kwantung Area Army, including two whole divisions, have been ordered to the region and should help stiffen our attack.

A large airstike blasted British airbases in Akyab. Several Hurricanes and Mohawks were shot down, and although several Japanese aircraft were loss, damage inflicted was very significant.
A large raid was launched against Singapore as well.
Continued destruction in the streets of Singapore.

Bettys took aim at the CL Java and CL Tromp in Palembang, but no hits were landed.
At Cagayan however, the Bettys sunk the AP President Madison.

Feurer Krieg Area Report
Kwajelein is bustling with action as the South Seas Detachment, the 14th NLF and the 28th Special Base Force units load aboard large fleets of ships. On average, each transport ship is at about 25% capacity, with the rest being used to carry food, munitions, medicines and other needed supplies.
Kwajelein is a center of activity as Operation Enrai gets rolling.

Bad weather made for a quiet day in the air war. On the ground, Johore Bharu fell, opening the way for the seige of Singapore to begin.
The Johore causeway, the last obstacle blocking Japanese domination of the Malaya peninsula.
Several ships bombarded Akyab, causing further damage to the airfields there, and destroying a couple planes on the ground.
Hengchow was deserted and Gen Mantill's troops easily secured the base.

Troops have loaded for Enrai, another day to be spent stuffing the ships with supplies and loading an AK full of supplies for good measure.
