Naval fights are winding down. Most of my ships need repairs. Subs are still getting a few hits. I am looking forward to getting the main American fleet in action; and for the British BCs to arrive.

Finally getting some transports moving, and supply is starting to shape up. I've withdrawn all my forces from their defeats in the north and am preparing Clark Field for the inevitable attack. Lingayan and San Marcelino are holding, but not by much.

A quick peek at upcoming air reinforcements. I"m going to have to get a little closer to make these guys effective. That should give them enough time to learn about which way to face in the cockpit.

The Chinese area has been quiet since the game started, but now I see some movement. I don't have the supply to support large operations in the area. My focus will be to hold the coastal bases to harass his shipping.

Unlike WiTP there is very little incentive for the Japanese player to move into the interior. Shanghai is worth the highest number of VPs - 600. Chungking, a massive 3600 in WiTP, is worth about 8 in this game. All the VPs are in the PI and places of real interest...

Status Report: Fleets

US Battlefleet. Very close to completion of refit. Expect a sailing date of no later than 1 week hence.

US Asiatic Fleet. In port for repairs after 10 days nonstop fighting. Various elements will sail again as required to harass IJN shipping around PI.

British Fleets SE Asia. DD squadrons on roving patrol. with no air to speak of, once the ships aren't spotted on a coastal area, or making lots of noise attacking I have no idea where they are.

Dutch Fleet. Returning to Dutch territory for resupply and then redeployment for expected invasions/positions closest to Japanese held Mindanao.

French Fleet. In port for repairs.

The fight in the PI is stalemated for now (it seems) and although I have lost Wake, I haven't found any aggressive moves towards Midway yet.

A screenie of the ongoing duel at Lingayen. I am outnumbered, but holding for now.

The most disturbing thing about this time period is the absolute lack of information. Until Sprior actually arrives somewhere, or gets spotted off a coast, I have no idea where he is. I am glad that works both ways.

Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon in front of them
Volley'd and thunder'd;
Storm'd at with shot and shell,
Boldly they rode and well,
Into the jaws of Death,
Into the mouth of Hell
Rode the six hundred.

This was supposed to be a scouting TF. Unfortunately I had an aggressive commander at the helm. WPO gives timid commanders a home. I was hoping for the DDs to encounter enemy TFs, and run like heck from encounters... especially one sided encounters. BUT OH NO! Some hereditary British tradition of never running causes my DDs to slowly close the range from 25000 to 20000 where the IJN finally starts landing some hits. I'm on the ceiling screaming "OTHER WAY, GO THE OTHER WAY"

on the plus side I found some of his BBs.

The PI are holding out for now. I have convoys in place for Pearl, and am redeploying troops and transports (mostly transports at this point) to prepare for the next hop forward. Due to the slow nature of the transports I'm trying to plan for a number of runs on the same destination, each to arrive a week or so after the other for the prime thrust, and every 2-3 weeks for the secondary areas. Q-ships are a must for this, and there will be roving surface combat TFs on the lines, if not actually in the convoys.

I don't think I want to try a Run across the pacific to PI, I could bring supplies (which I will have to try) but not troops and my Fleet would be very far from home. I have to locate the IJN fleet first.

Australians aren't planning any major advances, but they will defend New Britain. As Sprior mentioned, he found the Aussie Fleet off Sag Sag. I have chosen forward bases for Australian troops, but am waiting in case there is another invasion heading south. The fleet will lurk in the area, but can't really take on a large IJN TF as it has only 1 BC the rest being light ships.

The US forces on the West Coast don't have any infantry units to speak of, so not only is a relief TF for PI out of the question, but I'm still very worried about Midway. I can hold Pearl Harbour and the Islands, but Midway is still in doubt IF he manages to land troops. I intend on preventing that.

I'll be expecting you! Battlefleet slowly making repairs, then they'll slowly make their way forward. Just you wait and see if they don't!

my...my god those bombers are lame... I'd expected the air in this game to suck but...oh my god! I'm really enjoying your AAR by the way. I have a small question, how am I doing with the french fleet? Have you replaced me yet? I should be in command of the CA Desaix, or that other big ship (there are only a few in the french fleet). Name is Lamothe, G.

Another question: The americans don't have any air power in the philippines? It seems like even those crappy bombers could prove useful against the japanese lurking in the jungle... After all, whether a 250 kg or 30kg bomb falls on your head, you're still dead!
