Anyone else running into this?

Since upgrading to 8.4, whenever i go into the bombardment routine, it takes me 5 to 6 clicks on the mouse to get the program to register the target hexes i'm clicking on in the game. It makes plotting bombardment missions a time consuming agony and candidant for arthritis of the fingers.

Haven't seen this... Perhaps your mouse is defective? Or your brain?

I'm running against the AI, no CC, and am having no problems with artillery target selections.

When in doubt, delete Steel.prf & restart the game.

Have not encountered it, but perhaps it now turns up. I don't usually even touch preferences screen, but the problem may be related to that matter. Dunno...

Hmmm--if we can get this sorted out, I'll paste the solution into the "technical issues" sticky.

Well in solitaire play I have to usually click a point several times to get it to target the hex. It doesnt happen every time but it does happen. I just assume it is my system, but it has done it on every computer I have ever used and in all the previous versions as I recall ( been playing off and on since 7. something or other.

It isnt a big problem, can be a little frustrating at times but just requires a couple more click.

Thx for the feedback.

Maybe i'll try installing 8.4 on my other machine and see if the problem pops up there as well.

This happens to me all the time. I have SP on old machine (333) but it runs fine otherwise. I thought I was the only one.

Your not alone Nikademus. This has been happening to me since I installed ver 8.3. Seemed to have gotten better with 8.4. I've deleted the Steel.prf with no change. Certainly slows play down and more than anything its annoying, so I someone knows how to stop it please speak up. Interesting in that with all the people playing, it seem that only a few are effected, whats the common denominator I wonder?

I'm having the same issue now with 8.4. I wasn't until I changed computers this week. My previous machine was a Sony 16" notebook running XP with 512MB of Ram and a 32MB video card in it... this new one is a HP running XP media edition with a 17" widescreen, 1GB of ram and a 128MB video card in it. The game runs very well except in the bombardment setting screen... very annoying at best.

If anyone finds a solution, I'd like to know. In the meantime I'll continue to tweak various settings to see if I can make this problem go away as well.

Happens to me when I'm playing online, but otherwise it's fine. Thought it was a sync issue.

I had the same problem, still do. And sometimes the bombardment icon won't appear on the map.

I have the mouse problem with the bombardment screen in all versions of 8.x. All buttons will at times be unresponsive and need lots of clicking to get any response for unit, mission, or target. I never had any problems with any of the 7.x versions.

Same problem on all my computers, all types of mice. It's frustrating and maddening; I use v.8 only to play Das Reich, and the mouse problem sucks a lot of the joy out of it.

Any word on a possible fix?

Same problem with clean mouse, optical mouse, touchpad.

What could those of us having problems have in common? Operating system (I have XP)? Corrupt download? Bad karma?

KG Erwin has a post under technical issues. If using XP SP2, set mech.exe to run in Win 98 compatability mode. I just did so, and the game now runs like a charm.

I'm glad this worked for you. It looks like the Tech FAQ is serving its purpose.

I have not been playing spwaw for a long time. Upgraded to 8.4 and got into the mouseclicking artilleryproblem. It was very annoying. I rememberd the forum and went there. And what do I find in a few minutes?
The problem described and at least for me the solution. Set the mech.exe to run in Win98 mode if you have XP and SP2.
The problem disapperaed.
Great.

Just another curiousity question.......Thanks to BjornR.....how many of the people who are having this artillery problem using XP with SP2 installed ?

I personally use XP SP1 and are having no problems with Four (4) versions of SPWAW. I have been extremely leary of SP2 that's why I ve ignored it. (versions 8.3 Modified, 8.4 stock, 8.4 modified and H2hfr[7.1}.

I'm running XP with SP2 on an HP Pavilion 2GHz processor w/248Meg of memory, and have no problems with the game. Artillery works fine, no graphics problems (except the black screen on occasion, when I forget to turn off some background programs).

Flash: Thanks for reply, I also use HP/Compaq units and have blackouts only when I forget to shut off pre-timed events. (ie: updatess etc.). Looks like my idea(s) of SP2 problems were wrong. Oh well back to the Ouiji board.
