Well you all know what I refer to. I don't want to be rude or anything, but what is the rough time scale for release? I can't wait for it and it'd be good to know if I have to cool my heels for awhile or if I can get all excited already. Thanks for any info.

I'd cool my heels for awhile if I were you, EC. I'm not saying anything, because I don't really KNOW (being only a humble beta-tester), but it's not right around the corner.

With luck, we are hoping for a mid to late September release. The game part is mostly done, just a few more OOB fixes and additions (Chinese cruisers... even the betas don't know of that one yet), and then all the final good stuff like packaging, and all that other stuff that the guys at Matrix get to do.

So, I'd cool your heels for a week or two, but after that start getting excited (That said, that's just from what I see at my standpoint. It may be later than that, but I honestly can't see why).

And why the (&*)(@*$^&*@&$^ is WPO getting knocked down again in the forums!

I too eagerly await the release of this product. It has occurred to me, that if this kind of game can actually be fun, then this will open up a lot of other possibilities for the WitP engine.

Hate to burst any bubbles here, but don't get your hopes too far up.

Yeah, release dates are like soap, everytime you get near them they slip away.

Still, who knows right?

So does this mean the project is dead? I hope not.

No no. The OOB is done, and the code is about 99% done. The main thing we are working on is balancing the scenarios, and just making some last minute checks with the AI and playtesting. That said, I do believe now a mid September release wouldn't be feasable, but a late September - early October is still a definate possibility.

Trust me, this project is far from dead. Thanks to the great beta team, it gets better every day. Trust me, you guys are gonna love it.

I think he is referring to "will open up a lot of other possibilities for the WitP engine"
rather the WPO itself.

dont try to hard to "balance" the sceanrios.. some things should be as they were histroically.

I for one am not keen on 'fudges' to balance things.

Its nto so much balance per se, but a few things we are discussing, like whether or not to allow players to cram British troops in Luzon if they wish. Not balance balance. But just some potential issues that could be raised. Plus, we are also mulling around PBEM variants, with no starting TFs to allow players a "sandbox" to do as they will. This was the original design, but the AI didn't like it very much.

Well, I probably get something thrown at me for this, but here goes..

If this works, then I see WWI Atlantic as a definate possiblity. In my mind, (surely over simplified), you would just tweek the ground combat to be basically futile. This way players put the ground combat on "auto-pilot" and focus on the naval war. (i.e. subs, surface fleets, rapining the convoy system, etc... ). It would be a blast.

The game could run from 1914-1916, and since the German player can ignore any REAL politcal fall-out (BECUASE, its a GAME), then he won't need two years to bring the fleet out to challenge the British.

Take your time, get it right , I don't want to have to wait for patch 1.6 to get all the bugs out.

We'll try to fix it so all the bugs will be gone by v.1.5!

I'm wondering if the initial version of WPO will deliberately be released with the known bugs of WiTP that have not been fixed, such as units disappearing, Jap warrant officers commanding US ships, commander alien abduction, commander cloning, etc.

We've squashed a bunch of the unit disappearing bugs, the spy bug, and some others. Also, since there isn't nearly as much air combat 9what is though to be the cause of the leader bug), the leader bug has also disappeared. Or at least, it hasn't come up in the beta version.

That said, some issues with WitP may be left in, but game breaking bugs have been squashed, and every bug that we foud in beta has been killed.

I think some like the Spy Bug they are, but I really can't say with any certainty.
