My victorious KB has reached July 1942 intact (for the most part--lost Hiryu) and is ready for its own carrier upgrade. While I rotate my carriers in for upgrading, I am debating on changing my fighter squadrons over to A6M3s.

The shorter range does not bother me and the plane is an improvement. What say you about this? Does anyone have any strong opinions over the merit of staying with M2s or changing to M3s?

for carrier use definately upgrade .. you dont need the range for that duty .. only escorting nells and betties

Thanks again Rob.

I tend to agree with you that the A2 is great to fly escort with my Navy bombers and the A3 is better for the Navy TB and DB. Wish I could get my A5s in 1942!!!

Oh, well...

Is the A3a useful? I haven't devoted any real research to it. Have upped my A3 production and converted a couple of smaller A2 factories over to it. Want my CVs upgraded ASAP!

Yep, because the A6M2 carrier groups will only upgrade to A6M3a.
