Have you ever done this: you have a tank stacked with infantry adjacent to an enemy stack, and when you attempt to fire the tank, you hit the wrong mouse button and advance INTO that enemy hex? *BOOM!* Tank is destroyed, and all you can do is mutter, "aww sh*t!"

Here's another one: your infantry unit blunders into the enemy, and when it retreats, it retreats INTO the enemy?

And, for good measure, one more: the moment when every piece of arty the AI has seems to pound just ONE of your unlucky units?

Personal note: is it because I'm southern, or is "sh*t" actually pronounced as two syllables?

Have you ever wondered, "If the AI is that dumb, what does that say about MY mental acumen?!"

I'm not alone in this, am I? C'mon, guys, fess up.

Yeah, is kinda like hitting the occasional bum note on the fretboard -- do you do the same thing I did? -- I glanced around to see if anyone noticed. If not, I just flashed a goofy smile and kept going.

Have you ever lost your HQ unit due to an enemy arty barrage? That happened to me in my current campaign -- my vehicle got hit by a 75 round and I disappeared in a cloud of dust. I promptly ended the game and restarted the battle with the saved turn 0.

I tell you what, our keyboard player could be in the middle of an intense solo, and if I hit a wrong note, I look over and he is smiling at me.... I always get caught.
The guy is amazing!

You are not alone... this happens to me all the time... it can drive you crazy when it happens two times during the game.

Here is one for you: I recently lost my Spec ops sqd 'cause of my own barrage... totally went wide and my 6-men squad disappeard. There was one minute total silence, when I stared the screen...

Worst thing is that it is YOUR OWN FAULT and there is no one to blame.

But it's just a game... and fun

Yeah, man-- you get the horrible reminder that there is no such thing as friendly fire. It unfortunately happens in real life, and it happens in SPWaW. "aww, sh.."

Losing your HQ is a big bummer! A friend and I played a pbem match a few months back and we were talking so much smack leading up to it. I wanted to win so badly and on the second turn of the battle my HQ got eliminated by an artillery barrage. OUCH!!!

Clausewitz called it "friction"; it's the stuff you can never plan for, which always happens at the WORST moments.

I hate it when I click too fast and I end up moving a unit 1 hex too many and into the sights of an enemy unit. KABOOM...........

Is that the excuse you're using nowadays, Speedmeister? Clicking "too fast"?

One I hate: clicking on a hex a distance from your tank unit, and watching it drive into a stone building instead of bypassing it! Grrrrr..... Blasted pathfinding routine!

Unfortunately yes... well, is it good or bad depends on which side you are...

In SPWAW you always can try again if you want to, but in real life second chages have very high rarity...

I'm playing a Brit armour/ANZAC infantry long campaign at the moment. Yesterday I was assaulting against the Germans in a sandstorm - I guess it was all that sand that confused my 5.5" off board artillery....

Not one but two barrages dropped very, very short indeed, right on top of the engineer company that was clearing mines. It was a real mess, I tell you. To add insult to injury, I then also went 'A Click Too Far (TM)' and got a Grant toasted point-blank by an 88. And I don't want to talk about the commando squad who arrived in the middle of an artillery park....

I had Russian infantry close assaulting two of my Panthers in hexes adjacent to them during the AI's turn. The Panthers survived. On my turn,I had a Sturm Tiger about four or five hexes from the Russians.I let 'em have it!Two shots totally dispersed the infantry..those same two shots also saved them the trouble of coming back to destroy the Panthers.KABOOM!Scratch Two Panthers!
I was so into getting an opportunity to blast infantry with the Sturm Tiger's huge gun,it didn't register that infantry don't die with the metallic shriek of rending metal!
SHHHHHHH*T!
Oh well, all part of the fun I suppose.

Nothing like being caught in a traffic jam on a wooden bridge and then suddenly finding out that the AI has 152mm off board arty units.

RUPD, your avatar reminds me of many "aww sh*t" moments that poor ol' Wile E. Coyote had -- starting with the descending whistle, and always ending with a very faint "splat".

I can only claim to have had one really biq OOOPPPPPSSS!!! lately and that was dropping my HQ off into a stone building and then having the LVT4 they were riding in go threw that same building when I tried to pull it around said building to get to the firing side of the village we just occupied. WHAT IS THE RANDOMNESS or oftenness of the buildings in SPWAW for the structures to collapse after damage as opposed to drivethrew?

I actually had something happen to me once. My A0 was holed up in a building, and I accidentally ran a Sherman through it. The building collapsed, and killed my A0 unit. I said a few bad words that night!

The lesson now is -- the Battalion Commander has no business being in the front lines. For you guys who can't resist being a Patton or a Puller or a Peiper, you are taking your chances.

No need to be Patton etc. Being Finn is enough
Traditional leading style in Finnish army is "follow me" - really.

Of course it costs: During Winter war in Tolvajärvi Finnish forces (less than one division) destroyed two Soviet divisions. Finnish casualties: soldiers 25%, officers 30% (dead or wounded).

Ok, Hq is not the first one, but it often (not allways) moves right behind my units. Sometimes it looses a man but very seldom. Maybe not very wise but sometimes have saved it from spec ops.

Just have to tell this!

3/42 Burma

Tried to shoot at Japanese infantry with my British Stuart III/IV. Clicked... and Stuart drove in the middle of the Japanese platoon!

SIX(!) Japanese infantry squads panicked and turned from "ready" to "retreating" mode!

Lucky Stuart was able to run back home and I'm still catching my breath...

Yup, 8.4.

It actually didn't said "panicked", but no one shot and everybody turned from ready to retreating.

Actually had that last one happen to me. Had 3 engineer units in a hex making a mine field. (AI assault) The M4 105 sherman goes over the mines into the hex with the engineers and nothing. On my turn I removed two (got shot up) and assaulted with the third no effect. The M4 fires back, range 0, makes my engineers surrender and routes both of the other 2, into the mines. . What did I do to deserve that. LOL

Hey guys thought of another one that happened to me in the 8.2 game saves that I was going threw the other day. had a me110 do a direct bomb hit on my hq the first turn of a long british campaign in 39, made the rest of the battle litteral hell to continue but I did manage to exit most of my forces to a marginal victory, because one of my tanks stuck around long enough to find the german hq and halftrack they were riding in.
