What would happen if the sun never sets on the Japanese Empire? This will be a 2X2 game with myself and swift. against Roger Neilson and Mike Dixon. I will command the ocean areas and swift will command China and Southeast Asia. Let the games begin.

Yes, both sides can contribute. Look for some deception.

Allied intercepts of Japnese radio traffic suggests that they are experiencing some level of communication difficulty.

Dear Parents

I did promise I would write when I got to Singapore, so here I am. It is difficult to believe that back home it is cold and the news of the bombing and rationing is not good. Here we are having a wonderful time, it is very warm and we have to spend much of the day doing nothing to conserve our energy. This is a wonderful posting... my main job is to wander round checking how things look and finding out any bits of gossip so I can feed them back to my commanders back in the Ministry.

Everyone here feels that nothing will come of all this war of words between the Japs and us. For heaven's sake, they were our allies in the last show weren't they?

Yesterday I wandered round the docks a bit and took some pictures. I include one of a Dutch submarine on a goodwill visit.

Tomorrow I journey north to the malayan border so it may be a while before i write again. I am supposed to go and check our defences at a place called Khota Baru.

Best wishes to all at The Grange

Sebastian

We are off and running. Our strike on Pearl was a good one. So far only St Louis has been sunk. Numerous BB have been hit, I think 6 or 7 were hit with the majority having torpedo hits.

After several problems we restarted the game.

The starting turn was probably a bit surprosing for our opponents, but as well as for us - the KB did not do what she should have done - arrgh. On the other hand the Allied players do not know where the KB may be

Dear Millicent

I know I said that I would write frequently while I was out here in Singapore and you were back home in dear old England, but something has come up and there may be periods when you don't hear from me.... I am on a trip to (censored) in the north of (censored). Anyway it would appear that the Japs have very stupidly misread their charts and tried to land some troops in the wrong place! I can only assume they were on an exercise to the north of us which is their territory anyway. What can you expect when they all wear those funny glasses. When some of our men went to try to tell them of their mistake they shot at them! So, I suppose technically we are at war with them. Its all got a bit out of hand now and instead of us all sitting down to sort this out over some tea (far too early for a snifter, the sun wasn't even up never mind over the yardarm) their ships are steaming around shelling the beach and they seem to have called in some of their airforce too.

Well this is my first taste of the real thing and I can assure you it is damned noisy! You have to laugh though, some runner has just come into HQ to report they are riding down the road on bicycles.... I mean, this has got to be a mistake hasn't it? Whoever starts a war without first telling the other side, and who tries to fight riding bicyles???

Well, the CO is making some comments to me about 'maybe its time I did something instead of lounging around writing letters' so I'd better show willing I suppose.

See you soon old thing! Enjoy Christmas at The Grange, I don't think I'll be there for it this year.

Affectionately

Sebastian

PS I vaguely recall from my history lessons at Eton that the Japs did once fight Russia without actually telling them.... hmmmm

Eyes only CinC: Far East Command.

Reports of landings and other hostile acts along the coast of Malaya and Borneo
Air attacks taking place to support landings and also seeking to deny airbase use to our airforces
Every indication is that this is undeclared war by the forces of Imperial Japan
Suggest full and urgent mobilisation of all forces under your command and operation of Plan Welshman.
Further intel to follow as it is available.
Current postion is Whitechapel.

Dear Millicent

A bit of spare time on my hands again. From rumours elsewhere it may be that the Japs have really attacked us and the Yanks. I can't believe their audacity. We had quite a little argument with them at (censored), but the CO decided to fool them by leaving at night and letting them wear themselves out shelling empty positions on the beach.

Anyway we have moved inland and that way their bally batteleships can't shell us - they were giving us a bit of a headache I can tell you. Its fairly wet and hot jungle around us now but the CO says we will soon be back on the open road and joining the rest of our lads so we can throw these impudent little men out on their ears!

I wish I'd had my camera handy to take a picture of those silly little yellow men on their bikes! Well we won't see them where we are now, you cannot cycle over this sort of area.

I have passed this on to a Dutch Planter who has promised to post it when he reaches (censored)

Deepest regards

Sebastian

As this is the Nasty Nips AAR I'm just hi-jacking it occasionally top spread some gloom and despondency amongst them with despatches from the front in true stiff upper lip brit fashion!

You will see several personalities emerge from this as I indulge my literary, digital imaging and historical self. I've been inspired by some of the other AARs on here.

I'll also, with the permission of my co-ally, drop in some sitreps in the way of maps because I have great difficulty myself in making sense of pure narrative when describing actions and strategies.

It also kills time in between waiting for the next move to make!

Cheers

Roger

BTW the pic is taken outside of a Pub in Ireland called The Bloody Stream which is built over the site of a battle between the Normans and the Irish way back in the mists of time.....

Signal to Commander Port Moresby
From Commodore Musketeer Squadron
Night of 12th Dec 1941

Pleased to report the success of Operation Sheepshearer. Whilst cruising in the proximity of Port Outback intercepted Jap TF Blacksheep. Force comprised 13 ships AK, AP, PG and AG. Opened fire at 22,000 yards and began to score hits immediately. Closed to 8,000 yards and scored at least two torpedo hits. Darkness ended the engagement with 4 confirmed sinkings and another 6 ships burning and almost dead in the water. Suggest that this TF will not be able to fulfil its objective and will have difficulty getting any of its damaged ships back to Truk.

Proceeding now to RV with another musketeer for futher adventures.

Larkin, Commodore.

Dear Millicent

Who knows when you will get this, I am still wandering in the jungle with some brave fellows I met up with.We are heading towards where we think our lines must be. After our retreat from the beach landing site wherever we turn we seem to run across the Japs, so far our luck is in and they have been spotted by us before they spot our small but plucky group. We ran into another group of tommies the other day, they were heading south whereas we have decided to strike north and west. They had 'heard' that the Japs had cut right across Malaya and were moving down on both sides of the peninsula - and that wherever they meet our troops we fell back in disarray. I had no time for these miseries and defeatists. They aim to get to Singapore where they feel they will be safe under the fortress guns and the protection of our great battleships. We, on the other hand head north, looking to cause maximum damage to the little yellow men.

Who knows when, or if I will be able to ever post this to you.... it may be you get it because I have fallen and some kind soul takes it with them back to civilisation.

In a brief rest period I sketched this picture of the others in my huge force. They seem to know how to handle themselves, but of course are very grateful for the advice and tactical skills I bring as an officer to them.

Till we meet again....

Sebastian
