In CHS rail connection to Darwin doesn't exist, so Darwin is actually quite difficult to supply. And other northern bases like Derby and such are even harder to supply.

The problem is that it should not be gamey to use a Darwin route in situations where for example Japan does not defend the area. But since Darwin is so non-historically easy to supply I feel bad about attacking there.

It would be better if they just fixed the rail line. Then if you wanted to ship some supply up there everything would be fair game.

Laurent says:

"While in many games Japanese player (me included) will rather continue to attack and so use troops elsewhere than in DEI"

I've wondered on this of late but haven't researched it. Did the Japanese retain division sized garrison units across the SRA or did they move in Guard units and move the division for frontline operations?

Steven

I dont know the specifics but the old SPI game "USN" required the Japs to mantain division sized garrisons each in PI, Borneo, Java, Sumatra, and Clebes (spelling).

Edit: I have a National Geographic map of the Pacific area (including Australia) that came with the April 44 issue and Andys map is almost identical to it. I'd say he was a hex or 2 off north of Perth (he didnt go far enough to the east on that northern spur) but it certainly is closer than the "standard" map.

Japanese 48th Division remained on Timor until the surrender in 1945 and (2nd) Imperial Guards Division was moved to Sumatra after the fall of Singapore and stayed for the rest of the war. Don't know about the other divisions that occupied the SRA in first place, but some Independent and Independent Mixed Brigades were moved from China to Java and Borneo in 1943/44, maybe relieving some combat divisions?

You can supply Darwin from India if need be. The Brits have a huge merchant fleet which you dont really need in India as its all railroaded anyway.

So the Jap player better watch out for that. Glen boat in the Indian Ocean and the odd CVL raid maybe.
