There was thread some time back about music and WitP. Several liked the score for Victory at Sea as background music while playing. I offered this link: Victory at Sea Music which is also an excellent site to browse.

So yesterday, we get a new ROSS department store opening nearby. Naturally the wife has to go check it out, with me in tow. During my ensuing misery , I noticed most of the husbands had gravitated towards the front of the store. Making my move, I followed suite only to discover they had a few racks up there with CD's and DVD's.

In addition to several nice WWII packs, I spied Victory at Sea for $5.99 USD !!!!!!!

If you don't own this one already, make haste. 13 hours of goodness in exchange for 2 hours of shopping is a nice deal indeed

The best orchestral music Rodgers wrote I think. I remember watching the series every week when it first came out. Black and white of course and in those days no one minded the proganda.

Ahh... Victory At Sea takes me back to my childhood! I loved it then and still love it now. I recently got the music CD for my B-Day, but I was (a little) dissapointed in that it didn't include ALL the music that I had on the LP records.

The CD you bought - how many tracks does it have? I may need to go out shopping again!

I bought Victory at Sea at Fry's over a year ago for $60.00. Worth every penny!

Considering this stuff is more than fifty years old, it is very well produced material indeed. Again, considering the age, the music is superb, and I can't have imagined what it would be like to watch this stuff on TV as a kid when first released.

My favorites are all on disk 3: The Turkey Shoot and Battle for Leyte Gulf. Oh, and I like Guadacanal on disk 1, too!

Still watch it once a week or so. Great stuff...

Always found VaS hard to watch, probably because it made too close to end of the war and it was to one sided in it view. The World at War is a much better series.

Just beware that some redone versions have audio problems with the music score. I heard that the version produced by the History Channel had these issues.

Speaking of Victory at Sea, if you guys remember the thread about my trip to Guadalcanal. One of my guides, John Innes had a audio tape that he carried round in his car. So, during our drive visiting sites, VatS was playing at all times.

Brought back memories, I have the series in home beta but the beta machine no longer functions. So I researched buying in DVD and that is when I started reading about these audio issues and decided to pass. Now if I ran across a DVD at $5 or even $10, I think I would buy in case this box had a good music score.

TankerAce made VatS music files for WITP and gave them to me...makes doing even long turns totally enjoyable.

I love that series and I believe I got my set from the History Channel. I recently aquired another monitor so now I sometimes play WITP in the windows mode while VAS is playing on the other monitor. Dude - HEAVEN!
