Quite a bit of activity today. The highlights are: Inchang falls to Japanese forces, with the defenders withdrawing, in good order, towards Chungking. Singapore resists enemy attacks. A Battleship TF appears in the Coral Sea, near Rabaul. It is attacked by LBA from Rabaul, without much success. Enemy Betties attack and torpedo CL Dragon, on the E coast of Borneo. Note: For ease of description N is assumed to be the top of the screen; this is of course often not north, but it makes for easier reporting AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 02/01/42 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on Brunei , at 33,56 Japanese aircraft A6M2 Zero x 5 Allied aircraft Brewster 339D x 4 Martin 139 x 3 No Japanese losses Allied aircraft losses Brewster 339D: 1 damaged Martin 139: 2 damaged Aircraft Attacking: 3 x Martin 139 bombing at 10000 feet -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on 62nd Chinese Corps, at 43,39 Japanese aircraft Ki-43-Ib Oscar x 18 Ki-21-II Sally x 24 No Japanese losses Allied ground losses: 75 casualties reported Guns lost 1 Aircraft Attacking: 24 x Ki-21-II Sally bombing at 15000 feet -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on 83rd Chinese Corps, at 43,39 Japanese aircraft Ki-44-IIb Tojo x 3 Ki-51 Sonia x 55 Ki-15 Babs x 1 No Japanese losses Allied ground losses: 49 casualties reported Aircraft Attacking: 10 x Ki-51 Sonia bombing at 2000 feet 19 x Ki-51 Sonia bombing at 2000 feet 26 x Ki-51 Sonia bombing at 2000 feet -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on TF at 27,53 Allied aircraft Martin 139 x 23 Allied aircraft losses Martin 139: 1 destroyed, 10 damaged Japanese Ships CA Ashigara CL Natori CA Maya CL Jintsu ---------------------------- Day Air attack on TF at 63,93 Allied aircraft Wirraway x 16 Hudson I x 7 Allied aircraft losses Wirraway: 2 destroyed, 7 damaged Hudson I: 4 damaged Japanese Ships BB Ise BB Yamashiro BB Mutsu BB Fuso ----------------------------- Day Air attack on TF at 24,60 Japanese aircraft A6M2 Zero x 24 G4M1 Betty x 18 Allied aircraft Brewster 339D x 3 Japanese aircraft losses A6M2 Zero: 1 destroyed, 1 damaged G4M1 Betty: 3 damaged Allied aircraft losses Brewster 339D: 2 destroyed Allied Ships CL Dragon, Torpedo hits 1, on fire AK Hermion, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage Allied ground losses: 41 casualties reported Day Air attack on TF at 22,44 Japanese aircraft Ki-27 Nate x 51 Ki-43-Ib Oscar x 21 Ki-48-I Lily x 5 No Japanese losses Allied Ships AO Spirila -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on TF at 27,53 Allied aircraft Brewster 339D x 9 Martin 139 x 15 Allied aircraft losses Martin 139: 7 damaged Japanese Ships CL Jintsu CA Atago, Bomb hits 1 CL Natori DD Asashio -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on TF at 63,93 Allied aircraft Wirraway x 7 Hudson I x 3 Allied aircraft losses Wirraway: 5 damaged Hudson I: 2 damaged Japanese Ships BB Yamashiro BB Fuso BB Ise -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on TF at 22,59 Japanese aircraft A6M2 Zero x 20 G4M1 Betty x 17 Allied aircraft Brewster 339D x 2 Japanese aircraft losses G4M1 Betty: 1 damaged Allied aircraft losses Brewster 339D: 1 destroyed Allied Ships AK Kedah, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage DD Isis, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ground combat at Ichang Japanese Deliberate attack Attacking force 137277 troops, 1047 guns, 159 vehicles Defending force 32372 troops, 107 guns, 0 vehicles Japanese engineers reduce fortifications to 0 Japanese assault odds: 3 to 1 (fort level 0) Japanese forces CAPTURE Ichang base !!!
