Thanks GH, sometimes not playing both sides is disadvantage, but that's the way i like it....
regarding planes production - i've already expanded Zeros to 220 (still repairing) and Helen's but you are right - Sally and Oscar I need to be expanded (done)

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 12/21/41

Andy sent few transports for evacuate from Rabaul. My cadets on CL Kashima were successful - they send enemy AP on the bottom. I-155 finished Kota Radju, while S-39 get two depth charges after she torpedoed my AK near Kuching.

Kuala Lumpur falls.

CHINA- my units were unable to keep their positions (northwest of the Changsha) and they are forced to retreat. Road from Chungking to Changsha (and Hengchow) is open again.

First of enemy units from Moulmein arrived - but my mix regiment came here too...

Zero groups are rested now, but T-storm still prevents me from placing them (with bombers) on Alor Star and Khota Baru AF. Still remembering how String destroyed my 300 planes in Malaya on the ground and i don't want to take another gamble - knowing me it would be repeated scenario - my AF clouded and without CAP, but Singapore operational... phew!

NLF landed on Shortlands.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 12/22/41

DEI & MALAYA

I've checked those Dauntless in Amboina. They are from Lexington, don't believe that he moved his carriers so early in the game in dangerous waters. However, everything is possible....especially when he knows that KB is still long way from DEI....

SBDs again attacked, but this time bombs bounced of CA Kumano. They attacked again in the afternoon but Zero's from baby KB destroy both of them...

7 LB-30 Liberators (from Kendari) attacked Yamashiro BB group, but with no succes. I've moved all fleets nearer to Kendari.

Brunei captured and 271 oil left undamaged - i find that acceptable. One of Zero daitai from Kuching moved to Brunei (just in a case - somehow i have feeling that Andy will bomb oilfields when i capture them) while the other one is set on escort for my torpedo bombers (i've reduced range - don't want that they run in Singapore's CAP, for now)

Alor Star is now full of figthers - some of them (app 40) will try sweep over Sing. tomorrow, while others are on CAP duty. Still T-storms over Malaya.

Victoria Point is in my hands now. remains of enemy BF destroyed. Paras capture Kuatan.

two small raiders group formed (2 DDs each) and sent to Palembang. I know, it is quite risky but they should get of torp range by morning...

PHILIPPINES

Army bombers from Legaspi attacked Manila - some of them were on AF attack while some of them attacked ground units. Unfortunatly, Aparri was closed again. My units in Manila will have acceptable disruption/fatigue level tomorrow, and will try shock attack on dec 24th.
I hope that 5 divisions will be enough....

Ground combat at Manila

Japanese Bombardment attack

Attacking force 3068 troops, 106 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 67121 troops, 571 guns, 139 vehicles

Allied ground losses:
89 casualties reported

CHINA

SE PACIFIC

Durimg night phase CL Kashima again attacked 2 enemy AK's at Rabaul port and damaged them both. I-3 finished AK Wawe latter. One of my sub south of Rabaul is spoted with Seagull, so i have to count with presence of the enemy fleet in the area. It could be a little trick (like placing the float plane in one of bases there) because i have decent naval search at Kaveing (11 mavis) but i have to be cautious.

BURMA

Another shock attack on my units which are blocading road from Moulemein to Rangoon. I've ordered shock attack for tomorrow. Don't have great expectations, but if i manage to get 2-1 ods i will inflict additional losses to the enemy...

Ground combat at 30,34

Allied Shock attack

Attacking force 8097 troops, 100 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 10002 troops, 80 guns, 101 vehicles

Allied assault odds: 0 to 1

Japanese ground losses:
168 casualties reported
Guns lost 5
Vehicles lost 3

Allied ground losses:
247 casualties reported
Guns lost 9

PS - i still looking for best AAR format, do you guys have some suggestions?

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 12/23/41

DEI/MALAYA

Small raider fleets were successful - TK Anastasia, AK Paleu Bras and AP President Madison, were sank at Palembang and three more TKs are heavily damaged - they certaintly won't steal oil from Palembang. Well, that's my oil after all?! :)

Some day maybe i will learn that players don't change their playing habits after one defeat. Andy again sent air strike, this time target was Alor Star. And again old story repeated. Alor was "clauded" and 2 zero groups ordered on sweep mission over Singapore were grounded... i've lost 28 planes on the ground, and i will miss Zero's destroyed on the ground. Fortunatly, it seems that i lost none or one or two pilots from these groups.

Three zero's and 6 Oscars lost in A2A, but i have to give a credit to Oscar pilots - they shoted down several Bufalo's and 2 Tomahawks from AVG! In addition, at least 10 bombers damaged thanks to them.

I withdraw Zero groups that were attacked on AF, but moved in one more Zero Daitai (from Kuching) - lot's of damaged ac are still on the ground and i can't allow another raid on Alor Star. It will not happend probably, but....

Day Air attack on Alor Star , at 24,44

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 25
Ki-43-Ib Oscar x 36

Allied aircraft
Buffalo I x 10
Blenheim I x 7
Blenheim IV x 6
Hudson I x 12
P-40B Tomahawk x 18
B-17C Fortress x 6
B-17E Fortress x 27
LB-30 Liberator x 5

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 13 destroyed
Ki-43-Ib Oscar: 7 destroyed, 7 damaged
Ki-15 Babs: 1 destroyed
Ki-46-II Dinah: 1 destroyed
Ki-21 Sally: 2 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
Buffalo I: 6 destroyed
Blenheim I: 2 destroyed
Blenheim IV: 1 destroyed
Hudson I: 2 destroyed, 2 damaged
P-40B Tomahawk: 7 destroyed, 4 damaged
B-17C Fortress: 2 damaged
B-17E Fortress: 1 destroyed, 12 damaged
LB-30 Liberator: 1 damaged

Japanese ground losses:
125 casualties reported

Airbase hits 6
Airbase supply hits 2
Runway hits 39

All bombers on 6000 feet.

LB from Kuching puts three torps in AK Soerbaya (eastern shore of Borneo). In the afternoon phase one more AK is hit with 2 torps.

Andy moved CL Marblehead TF to Malacca. Lot's of enemy transports reported tin the Malacca strait but i can't attack them - you know, T-storms... phew!

SE PACIFIC

I certainly did not expect such move. Andy moved Enterprise TF in Rabaul hex?! What's going on? If this is not a trick, than this is pretty wierd move. I have no hope that he will stay there, however, Zero from Marshals moved to Truk to support Betty group... Kwajelein and Truk port are evacuated, just in case.

Day Air attack on TF, near Rabaul at 61,88

Japanese aircraft
E13A1 Jake x 5

Allied aircraft
F4F-3 Wildcat x 10

Japanese aircraft losses
E13A1 Jake: 5 damaged

Allied Ships
DD McCall
CV Enterprise

Aircraft Attacking:
1 x E13A1 Jake bombing at 2000 feet
4 x E13A1 Jake bombing at 2000 feet

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BURMA i've got 2-1 odds

PHILIPPINES

All five divisions are on shock attack. I have 5 full divisions there, preparing for Manila from the first day. Bombers from Legaspi and Aparri bombed enemy LCU's and let's hope that they will do the same tomorrow. Majority of the enemy troops is there. Will be enough?

KB OPERATIONS

Baby KB sunk two transports in Kendari hex, while real KB (returning to Japan, still NE of PH) again found "juicy" target - TF consisting of one AK and PG. 40 Vals sank only PG

however, i canceled invasion of the Amboina (strong PT fleet) and Kendari for now. I will soon have more naval search in the area (one of NG base will be invaded tomorrow) - still don't know where is rest of his carriers, while he knows. Few more days will not kill me...

EDIT: Does somebody know how to attach two pictures in the same post?

Back in UV days, i have discussion with my opponent and good friend about "coastal guard ships" - lone low valuable ships (aux, small AP...etc). I thought that this is legitimate tactic, but friend of mine argued (conviced) me that this is not appropriate strategy and i never used aux ships for "guarding".

I have discussion with Andy and we have opposite stand about this. I found his arguments reasonable (from his point of view) but game mechanic (100 planes attack on single PG...etc) questioned this arguments. I don't want quit game so we agree that this "coastal guard" tactic will apply for for both sides. I'm not happy with this (killing some enjoyment, i would like to knew it before game starts, damage was already done) but don't want break our game, especially it is very enjoyable and Andy is good opponent. Oh well, another house rule for future games...

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 12/24/41

I hoped for good results - thought that i have good chances for success: Manila, subs nearby Enterprise, but this wasn't best turn so far. BTW, Andy told me that Enterprise run out of fuel and only place with fuel is Rabaul!

DEI & MALAYA

I have to give credit to Andy for night bombardment with Marblehead group. It was really daring move! But this wasn't all - Alor star was target of his air forces from Singapore again.

My units arrived at Malacca.

Small group (2DDs) returning from Palembang raid met PT flotila and sank one of them. Invasion fleet will arrive tomorrow at Singawank (?). I-3 finished enemy AK at Rabaul

Day Air attack on Alor Star

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 28
Ki-43-Ib Oscar x 24

Allied aircraft
Buffalo I x 3
Blenheim I x 5
Hudson I x 3
P-40B Tomahawk x 17
B-17C Fortress x 3
B-17E Fortress x 19
LB-30 Liberator x 2

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 5 destroyed, 6 damaged
Ki-43-Ib Oscar: 3 destroyed, 3 damaged
Ki-15 Babs: 1 destroyed
Ki-21 Sally: 1 destroyed
Ki-46-II Dinah: 1 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
Buffalo I: 1 destroyed, 1 damaged
Blenheim I: 1 destroyed, 3 damaged
Hudson I: 1 destroyed, 1 damaged
P-40B Tomahawk: 11 destroyed
B-17C Fortress: 1 damaged
B-17E Fortress: 1 destroyed, 9 damaged
LB-30 Liberator: 2 damaged

Japanese ground losses:
68 casualties reported
Guns lost 2

Airbase hits 5
Airbase supply hits 1
Runway hits 13

all bombing at 6000ft

not a best performance of my CAP - several bombers get through!

BURMA

9 vildebeests and 5 B17E bombed Mix rtg... his units are still cut off Rangon. Bettys from Bankok put two torps into single AK (decoy ship).
Japanese aircraft

PHILIPPINES

Ground combat is misterious for me. I hoped that i will defeat enemy there, but 5 div, 2 tanks, 3 eng + 2 inf units with 100 AV obviously aren't enough for Manila, even there is no forts. Bombers did not attack (for unknown reasons) but i doubt it would help: 0-1 odds and enormous casaulties.... what to do now?

Ground combat at Manila

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 130528 troops, 1356 guns, 251 vehicles

Defending force 67334 troops, 586 guns, 147 vehicles

Japanese assault odds: 0 to 1 (fort level 0)

Japanese ground losses:
10156 casualties reported
Guns lost 194
Vehicles lost 39

Allied ground losses:
2016 casualties reported
Guns lost 49
Vehicles lost 1

Urban terrain confers a quadrouple bonus to the defender. Only way to get him out of there is starve him of supplies. The urban terrain at Manila is why I left Clark in our game

Allied aircraft losses
B-17E Fortress: 1 destroyed, 7 damaged

Japanese ground losses:
258 casualties reported
Guns lost 10

Airbase hits 4
Runway hits 41

lost 13 Oscars on the ground. Total A2A loses are 18 Allies-23 Japan (13 ground 6 ops...). 4 B17E lost today - 28 from the start of the game (plus 23 B-17C)....

Ground combat at Malacca

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 103348 troops, 1120 guns, 24 vehicles

Defending force 13790 troops, 120 guns, 2 vehicles

Japanese engineers reduce fortifications to 2

Japanese assault odds: 2 to 1 (fort level 2)

Japanese Assault reduces fortifications to 2

Japanese ground losses:
1029 casualties reported
Guns lost 32
Vehicles lost 2

Allied ground losses:
465 casualties reported
Guns lost 21

I-158 put 3 torps in TK Augustina at Palembang. I-166 claims antoher victory - enemy AK sunk. Unfortunatly, subs which hunting Enterprise did not attack her. pitty!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BURMA

Enemy AK spoted at Moulemein and imediately torpedoed from Bettys (Bankok). Enemy troops trapped at Moulemein barely score 2-1 against my tk regiment. While most of the enemy fighters are present in Singapore i can affort myself unescorted raid on the other bases. 19 Sallys destroyed dozen enemy planes in Rangoon (3 B-17E:)

PHILIPPINES

Resting troops after yesterday attack on Manila. Manila AF (+50 damage) and port attacked with army bombers (19 damage). I have to listen String's advice. Should be easier when 38th Division arrives near CF - Andy will detach some units and send to Clark or will be surrounded in Manila. Eng units (no forts at Manila) will be moved to Naga, embarked on ships and moved to northern Luzon.

CHINA

Lots of movement around Wuchow and Changsha, we trying to encircle each other - i want him cut off at Changsha while he trying to do same E of Wuchow where i have 2 divisions. Part of chinese corps is surrounded NE of Wuhan - it will took some time to eliminate it.

This was certainly unpleasant suprise (crossing river near Yenen)-As i said simply don't understand ground combat:

Ground combat at 50,27

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 19438 troops, 240 guns, 7 vehicles

Defending force 2983 troops, 20 guns, 0 vehicles

Japanese assault odds: 0 to 1

Japanese ground losses:
831 casualties reported
Guns lost 20
Vehicles lost 3

Allied ground losses:
24 casualties reported
Guns lost 4

Don't worry about the high casualties incurred during a river crossing. Its mostly just disruption from all the inconvenience of getting across under enemy fire. You outnumber him good so he can't bombard you. The disruption should wear off soon enough and you can continue the fight.

yes, this is not my bigest problem, although it is realy annoying how partial (it is divided unit - forgot-name-of-enemy-corps/B) can stop my full division....

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 12/26/41

MALAYA & DEI

Malacca falls.

Marblehead group bombarded my units at Malacca. In return, Kongo BB TF bombarded Balikpapan - not great results because Andy withdrew almost everything from Balikapan. But mission is not total failure - BB group found and sink enemy AP in the Balik. hex

Troops unloading at abandoned Tarakan. 56th brigade will be available for other mission once the base is captured - not sure what to do - send it to Pacific (Rabaul, Java or Philippines). Singawank is now in my hands - some recon planes moved there, while troops embarking for the Pontiak (sp?)....

Air strike from Khota Baru reached Singapore and met heavy CAP. Another fierce battle in the air, results of bombing Singapore AF was pretty bad. But have no choice, can't stop now, new strike ordered for tomorrow. In return, Andy sent remains of Malaya air forces on ground attack - my units at Malacca.

Day Air attack on Singapore , at 23,50

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 56
Ki-21 Sally x 49

Allied aircraft
F4F-4 Wildcat x 2
Wirraway x 1
Buffalo I x 14
Hurricane II x 12
P-40B Tomahawk x 11
P-40E Warhawk x 8

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 12 destroyed, 1 damaged
Ki-21 Sally: 8 destroyed, 33 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
F4F-4 Wildcat: 2 destroyed
Wirraway: 1 destroyed
Buffalo I: 11 destroyed
Hurricane II: 11 destroyed
P-40B Tomahawk: 7 destroyed
P-40E Warhawk: 5 destroyed
B-17E Fortress: 1 destroyed
LB-30 Liberator: 1 destroyed
Hudson I: 1 destroyed

Allied ground losses:
27 casualties reported
Guns lost 2

Airbase hits 3
Airbase supply hits 4
Runway hits 16

All bombed at 8000 ft...

BURMA

Andy left Rangoon - 4 units reported NE of the base. Knowing him, these units will try break encircled units at Moulemein. Rangoon AF bombed again from Bankok with Army bombers - few ac destroyed on the ground.

Betty from Bankok send on the bottom AK Woolgar and Nord (at Moulemein). I-158 sunk TK Angelina at Palembang

CHINA,SE PACIFIC AND PHILIPPINES

Enemy reinforcing Changsha - nothing i can do it right now. Division and brigade should arrive in Hengchow in next few days and it will be interesting again - i did not give up, will try cut off his forces at(near Changsha).

Enterprise dissapears.

PI - usual staff: Air and ground bombing of Manila.

I bet your zeros got bounced by his CAP. Better to always have a Sally group at higher altitude...something like : every sally at 8k but one chutai ( 9 or 12) at 16k...so you'll have some zeros at 19fts....

What does 19fts mean? 19,000 altitude? If the zeros are that high they will provide weaker escort I think. Though it will help to reduce zero losses it will also cause more bomber losses most probably.

Gen.Hoepner, you look rather unhappy with that cigarette hanging from your mouth. Do you smoke? Or did your friends force you to mouth the cig while they take a picture? In Japan, so many people smoke that I have to close my apartment windows in early mornings to keep all the smoke from other apartments out. Also, the nonsmoking areas in restaurants are tiny and the least nicest part of the restaurant.

I do smoke unfortunately.
I Italy now smokers are banned like plagued from everywhere...like in the States.
The best place for a smoker nowdays is France i guess...in every brasserie, in every pub or bar you can smoke without any problem

Thanks for the warning about France, Gen.Hoepner (where did you select such an oddly spelled name from?).

My worst smoking experience was when I attempted a few times to play AD&D with a group of 6 heavy smokers. It was an odd situation with me bringing my whole wheat chicken sandwiches with organic vegges and a big jug of water while they choked themselves out on smoke, MacD's junk and coca-cola. One freak kept up a steady stream of death threats at me. After a few times, I gave up on the ordeal but got a bit of revenge in the last session when they were all in a bar I herded in a pack of giant rats to attack them with.

General Hoepner, thanks for advice, never thought in this way - it is hard to keep all this important details in the head - i've ordered tomorrow air strike in way you described so we will see.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 12/27/41

-
SRA

Air strike on Singapore went good, but i can not claim outstanding victory. All in all 29 enemy planes destroyed this turn while i lost 10 (4 ops, 5 flak and only one A2A combat). Enemy lost 15 planes in A2A (6 Tomahawks from AVG and 8 Warcrafts) and 12 on the ground (only one B17E, but 7 Wildcats!) Wildcats are from the american carrier (Lex i think) and if i kill some pilots too this is very good news.

Torpedo bombers moved in Khota, let's hope for good hunting tomorrow!

It seems that Andy evacuating most of his forces to the India. Bettys from Bankok torpedoed enemy AK but she was empty like other ships previously attacked...hmmm...

You can see on the map that lots of enemy units are at Johore. I have one division and 2 bde preparing for JB. Well, who know what's is in the Andy's head?

Lost I-155 in Malacca strait (Marblehead TF) but i sunk O19 (minelaying sub???) in return). Decoy AK ship at Masaccar torpedoed by I-156.

Abandoned Tarakan captured with intact resources and oil! 34 Oscars imediately moved in for protection our precious oil. (hm, i think that Andy used only one B17 group and he should have one more?)

Enemy surface fleet SE of Amboina disappears. My "eyes" is now one of small bases in northern NG (cant recall name of base) and Mavis chutai from there looking for sneaky enemy forces.

---------------------------------------------
Day Air attack on Singapore , at 23,50

All Ki-21 Sally bombing at 11000 feet

Day Air attack on TF, near Singapore at 23,50

Japanese aircraft
G3M Nell x 13

Allied aircraft
P-40B Tomahawk x 2

No Japanese losses

No Allied losses

Allied Ships
AK Empire Scout, Torpedo hits 1, on fire
AK Empire Faith, Torpedo hits 1, on fire
AK Empire Tarpon, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage

No significant CAP after air raid on Singapore, but again my LBA attacked transports instead Marblehead TF that arrived in Singapore port... phew!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CHINA - i will attach map for tomorrow. My division seized Hengchow, waiting for Andy reaction - he can't allow presence of my troops there.

PHILIPPINES - usual staff (bombing Manila)

BURMA - he is evacuating traped units from Moulemein via sea, me thinks. This turn no attack on his transport unfortunatly.

Thanks for the warning about France, Gen.Hoepner (where did you select such an oddly spelled name from?).

Oh boy...I can already see where the cigarette is ending up

Hoepner was one of the greatest german generals of the first half of war ( before hitler decided that he didn't like his realistic behaviour and fired him). He was the one who entered in the Leningrad perimeter in late 41.
A very good prussian-old-style general. One of my favourite with Von Mainstein, Von Senger and Kleist

Well, there's something more to tell about him:

Commander of the 1st Light armored Panzer division based in the Wuppertal forest near Munich. He places his tanks at the disposal of the conspirators for the intended 1938 coup attempt. He achieves great fame during the 1940 campaign in France.

1942 - Dishonorably discharged by Hitler for withdrawing German forces from Moscow on his own initiative.

July 20, 1944 - On hand in the Bendlerstrasse for to help Stauffenberg launch his coup. Appointed acting Commander-in-Chief of the Home Army after General Fromm refuses to launch Operation Valkyrie. Arrested that night, Hoepner declines suicide and chooses to face the People's Court. He is later sentenced to death and executed for his part in the uprising (he was hung on a butcher's hook).

yes...this man was a real butcher.
Hoepner was a great soul imho. Like many more other german officers.
I do not like the conspirators however, even if i think Hoepner needs to be remember for more than just a betrayer( sp?)

Okay thanks for the info about the general. Odd that I never heard of him before. I also don't like the idea of the conspiracy but for weird reasons like had they suceeded then the war would have been stopped short leaving less historical material for cool documentaries and PC games (as well as more Bolsheviks).

Sorry for the lengthy OT reducing your hitcount pauk (what a sniveler) Okay, back to the war report.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 12/28/41

Not eventful turn - enemy finally admit defeat in the air campaign over Malaya and his more than decimated air groops are in safe areas, i guess. Torpedo bombers only found few enemy AK's and sank or heavily damaged them. Air strike on Johore B. wasn't success - he moved ac to Medan.

Marblehead TF disappears. My troops unloading over beach at Pontianak, soon will have another base for recon. Dinah can reach Soerbaja from there.

It is funny that for every new opponent addaption is needed. It took some time while i did not realize that he uses small AK's as a decoy and put them in base hex. The answer is : subs:

Sub attack near Palembang at 20,55

Japanese Ships
SS I-158

Allied Ships
TK Iris, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage

I-156 - KENDARI

Allied Ships
AK Lepus, Torpedo hits 3, on fire, heavy damage

NOTE: 38th division still traveling to CF (two hex away).. this unit already have 20/64 dis/fatigue although I rested it in HK. merde! (travel distance is 120 - merde again!)

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 12/29/41

Air raid on Singapore was succesful - 12 planes caught on the ground (6 warhawks, 3 wildcats, 2 B17). But i'm losing to many planes too - 7 ops losses!).

Pontiak should fall tomorrow - get 1-1 today. I'm preparing little suprise for for Andy, let's hope it is going to work...

Mavis found again his "South" TF few hexes south of Kendari. Moving to the west - fuel problems again?

Manila under heavy attack from air. SNLF did not magage to get positive odds (1-1) and Lingayen is still in the Allied hands. Another small unit arrived in hex just east of CF where Andy put one philippine division....

CHINA - my heroic soldiers were outnumbered and forced to make strategical redeployment

Ground combat at Hengchow

Allied Shock attack

Attacking force 42475 troops, 314 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 31464 troops, 387 guns, 7 vehicles

Allied assault odds: 14 to 1

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 12/30/41

SRA

Singapore AF is almost closed (49 damage) thanks to 90 Sallys.

AK Latouche is hit (Singapore) with 4 torps. AP Van Diemen is hit with 3 torps in "burmanese Dunkirk" - Moulemein. I decided to play risky there - ordered mix rtg, tank rtq and eng rtg to attack enemy units just NE of the Rangoon (railroad) - another crossing river. let's hope this units are just auxilary....let's hope our small "Burma" group will not run into trouble (encirclement).

Baby KB is now located 5 hexes east of Amboina. 2 Brewsters shot down during sweep mission over the base.

Pontianak captured - recon chutai moved in...

Enemy air forces located in Medan. Unfortunatly don't have fast CA's and DD's nearby - night naval bombardment would be nice. We shall see what we can do...

My little nasty suprise did not worked - Bettys sunk enemy PT...phew!

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 4

Brewster 339D x 12

Allied Ships

CHINA

Enemy fighters now based in Changsha but the ambush did not worked. Four divisions and 2 HQ moved in hex E of Wuchow (railroad) and will attack weak enemy forces there. Usual bombardments of the Changsha (almost 500 men disabled)

Day Air attack on Changsha , at 47,36

NAVAL LOSSES

Bad strike on PH did not result with any capital ship sunk. Andy is catious with his naval force in DEI - he keps them outside LBA deadly range.

SRA

Malaya Army group approaches Johore Baru. BB TF will bombard Johore tonight - i risk this turn and move BB tf 4 hexes from JB but Andy did not react. If I was him, i would move torp bombers in JB. I'm not complaining of course!

Day Air attack on Medan poor performance - max attitude set for tomorrow.

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 12
Ki-46-II Dinah x 1

Allied aircraft
F4F-4 Wildcat x 1
CW-21B Demon x 8
P-40E Warhawk x 3

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 1 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
CW-21B Demon: 2 destroyed

SRA

Operation "Davez-go" executed brilliantly. 38th div chrushed PI div East of CF and enemy wes forced to retreat to the CF. Next day SNLF moved from Lingayen and attack PI div in Clark (he,he assault river rule can sometimes be your friend). Although i did not get more than 1-1 odds, i think that enemy can't reinforce Clark.

Ground movement experts am I right?

Ground combat at Clark Field

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 1945 troops, 9 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 3104 troops, 44 guns, 2 vehicles

Japanese assault odds: 1 to 1 (fort level 4)

Japanese Assault reduces fortifications to 3

Japanese ground losses:
42 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

Allied ground losses:
47 casualties reported
Guns lost 2

BURMA

Well, well... my units arrived in hex NE of the Rangoon but enemy withdrew towards Mandalay. However some units are still in Moulemein (bad weather prevents air operations).
If only i knew before that Chinese wont join British imperialists in Burma (see at CHINA chapter) i would send one division to help "Burma detachment" and strike deeply into Burma. Never thought that Andy would be inattentive about part of the British empire. Well, he is a Scottman after all

Day Air attack on 6th Tank Regiment, near Rangoon

Allied aircraft
Buffalo I x 9
CW-22 Falcon x 1
P-40E Warhawk x 3
LB-30 Liberator x 4

No Allied losses

Japanese ground losses:
16 casualties reported
Vehicles lost 1

CHINA

Hmm.. green units dissapears (see picture from previous post) and this turn i can see only little yellow simbols. Now i'm totally confused but it seems that Andy leaved all chinese units in this theatre....

Day Air attack on 22nd Chinese Division, at 43,33
83rd Chinese Corps
Also, 29th div perceived...

Day Air attack on Changsha , at 47,36

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 01/02/42

SRA

Night bombardment wasn't so successful, I expected better results - i have recon over Johore Baru more than a week. Few airbase hits and 435 disabled men from 4 BB and 7 DD, oh well....

But sweep over Batavia was different story:

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 27

Allied aircraft
Hawk 75A x 3
CW-21B Demon x 2
Brewster 339D x 13

No Japanese losses

Allied aircraft losses
Hawk 75A: 2 destroyed
CW-21B Demon: 1 destroyed
Brewster 339D: 6 destroyed

SOUTHERN SRA

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BURMA

Andy confirmes that he have troubles in Rangoon area. He is worried enough to send bombers for 2 days on ground attack mission. Tomorrow we will try intercept british air pirates. However, two decimated Indian brigades managed to defeat 2 const. units and they can escape from encirclement now (through no-railroad hex NW of Rangoon). But it is not over yet, "Burma detachment" will try make retreat painful for the British imperialists.

AP Manoora sunk near Moulemein.

Day Air attack on 4th Mixed Regiment, at 29,33

Allied aircraft
Buffalo I x 9
CW-22 Falcon x 2
P-40E Warhawk x 5
LB-30 Liberator x 6

No Allied losses

Japanese ground losses:
14 casualties reported

PHILIPPINES

Clark Field is isolated and when bulk of my northern Luzon forces arrive it will fall into my hands. I like idea of having big AF 60 miles from Manila. Ma bombers didn't fly this turn and AF/port damage is decreasing fast.

56th brigade helped Naval unit and captured Cagayan. I have some plans with this base...

It is getting hot in South SRA (Kendari-Amboina-Timor triangle). As you know, i moved baby KB and invasion fleet closer to Amboina. Andy did not withdraw light SC but he is careful and did not made such mistake like moving them in Kate's range). What suprised me is direction of main allied TF (Revenge and Pow identified!) - they moved in NE direction (TF is now between Kendari and Amboina).

Well, great Admirals from Combined fleet didn't want risk light SC and baby KB and my TF's moving to NNE of Amboina (they don't want nasty things again in southern SRA from my previous game against String). Some counter-measures taken but i will not disclose here because success depends on pure luck....

Few words on Burma. Enemy broke encirclement and running away. It was my bad decision, but i can be pleased with overall results - pathetic japanese forces will capture Rangoon and enemy forces are significantly weaked (2 ind brigades and 2 burma rifle). It will took quite a lot while they are back in full strengh.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 01/03/42

MALAYA

Strong enemy presence in the Johore Baru. There is no way to know are they preparing for JB or not. Bombardment ordered. If enemy will not retreat from JB, 2 strong BB TFs will help our Malaya army with naval bombardment.

Ground combat at Johore Bahru

Japanese Bombardment attack

Attacking force 3348 troops, 128 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 53427 troops, 451 guns, 33 vehicles

Allied ground losses:
194 casualties reported
Guns lost 2

Another AK sank (at Palembang) with CL Isuzu raider TF.

Day Air attack on Medan , at 20,45

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 29
Ki-21 Sally x 93

Allied aircraft
CW-21B Demon x 3
P-40E Warhawk x 2

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-21 Sally: 5 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
CW-21B Demon: 5 destroyed
Martin 139: 4 destroyed

Airbase hits 8
Airbase supply hits 7
Runway hits 22

All Ki-21 Sally bombing at 7000 feet

Noticed that Medan is (temporarely) base for bombers... good strike. All in all, 18 enemy planes destroyed this turn - i've lost one plane (ops).

SBF starts unloading at Balikpapan, but there was more units than i thought - embarked them again this turn and will evacuate them. Japs eng. wrote message "I'll be back".

CHINA

Four divisions moving towards Kwelin (sp?). If i going to Hengchow with them, can't allow presence of enemy divisions in my backdoor. Still it is a risky move but if i want capture Changsha with nice bunch of prisoners of war i have to play risky. Andy pays lots of attention there...

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 01/04/42

Well, my plan did not work at all - moved in Davao my LBA, but they did not attack PoW BB TF - instead they chosed light surface TF at Kendari. Some of them lost due enemy Hawks and rest of them missed... phew. I lost 23 planes today (8 flak, 8 ops some of them are Army bombers lost during air raids on Singapore and Manila). Only thing that can cheers Emperor a little bit is torpedoed CL at Akyab.

I made stupid mistake (see picture) and will have to wait until troops get on transports again....It is really depressing, but feel if I rush here i will be punished....

Did i say that Andy upgraded (at least part of) AVG to Warhawks?

Day Air attack on TF, near Kendari at 33,71

I need advice here. Almost all of my units arrived in JOhore... i have 3 bde, one division and one eng preparing for Johore Baru... rest are on Singapore. Planing combined bombardments from the sea and air.... enemy is strong here. Can i get through? Am i forgot something?

Ground combat at Johore Bahru

Defending force 55260 troops, 462 guns, 32 vehicles
