AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 03/20/42 and 03/21/42

Agrhhh, he found me at Australia waters! And he waited for me - obviously his intel was good and my tricks not fooled him.

First of all, my carriers found two old American DD's - refugeees from Philippines and sunk them. At this moment i still had hope that he would think it's only carrier force sent in the Indian ocean raid....

Day Air attack on TF at 8,89

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 20
D3A Val x 44
B5N Kate x 59

No Japanese losses

Allied Ships
DD John D. Edwards, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage
DD Parrott, Bomb hits 7, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 03/21/42

But next day, it start to getting from bad to worse...

Sub attack at 5,91

Japanese Ships
AP Buyo Maru, Torpedo hits 2, on fire
PG Edo Maru
PG Kamitsu Maru
PC Ch 22
PC Ch 21
PC Ch 20
PC Ch 12
PC Ch 10

Allied Ships
SS Searaven

Japanese ground losses:
55 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

As you can see from the picture, lots of subs in the area! Well there is still a slightly hope that these subs were transporting troops to Darwin but i don't believe.

There is no turning back, i have no choice other than proccede with first phase of the Klokan-go. Let's cross our fingers and hope that cunning Scot have no many options to defend Perth...I'm still about 10 hexes from the Perth...

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 03/23/42

Andy wasn't pleased with my naval ASW effort from the carriers. But, IMO i took a significant risk - he could had (and still can have!) at least 4 CVs in the region (2 British and 2 American). Knowing him as a person who like to move carriers "in misterious ways", i consider it as a risk. Just imagine he sent carriers against my while DB and TB are on ASW duty!

Desperate persons take desperate measures (i'm talking about myself).

Damned Allied naval ASW is overrated too.. poor I-6 sinks near Noumea.

ASW attack at 74,114

Japanese Ships
SS I-6, hits 6, on fire, heavy damage

Allied Ships
DD Rathburne
DD Lawrence
DD King
DD Sands

This was only success of his crippled sub force in east Australian waters. Buyo was already damaged and sinks but not before men from 65 bde disembarks on Australian soil!

Sub attack at 7,93

Japanese Ships
AP Buyo Maru, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage

Allied Ships
SS Tautog

Japanese ground losses:
33 casualties reported

I think that Tautog get another hit from air (left one Val daitai on ASW duty). I've lost operational report so i can not be sure 100%

Day Air attack on TF at 6,95

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 112

Allied aircraft
T.IVa x 7

No Japanese losses

Allied aircraft losses
T.IVa: 7 destroyed

Dutch TB strike on my ships on extendend range. My Zero deals with them easily.

I'm now 5 hexes from Perth which means bombardment TF will visit Perth next turn. I have two B TF (don't want to risk failure of single bombardment TF), and i've order BB TF 1 to strike on Perth (1 fast BB and 6 cruisers) - CAs have more rapidly fire guns than BBs and hopefully will destroy enemy air force there.

Second BB TF consist of 3 fast BB and one cruiser and will strike in next few days.

Carriers and invasion fleet ordered to approach Pert for another 60 miles (4 hexes). Do not know if Andy have only 15 Hurricanes there (Alfs on recon reported them ) so i've decide to send about 30 Zeros on escort (DBs are on naval /AF attack + 2 Kate groups). Remaining Zeros will provide strong CAP in case that Andy was hiding fighters with longer legs (holding them on escort 0 CAP).

Lets hope that my move was a good one.

CHINA

Sweep from Ichang cant be considered as great success, but I'm still keeps the preasure on Andy in the China.

Day Air attack on Chengtu , at 41,29

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 26
Ki-46-II Dinah x 1

Allied aircraft
Hurricane II x 2
I-16c x 9

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-46-II Dinah: 1 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
I-16c: 1 destroyed, 1 damaged

Crack Zero daitais arrived in China (they are now in Canton, Wuchow) but will wait till fatigue gone..

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 03/24/42

Three remaining Beauforts attacked KB and CAP had easy homework - all three are shot down.

Afternoon bombing of Perth AF went good, our losses are acceptable. AF damage is 38 and i've ordered another round for tomorrow. After that i can start bomb his war industry. Invasion fleet approaching Perth and should be two hexes away from the base tomorrow. 1st bombardemt fleet still have enough ammo and we see if we going to include ships from this TF to inv fleet or send them to bombard Perth again....

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 03/25/42

Bad weather prevents Perth AF bombing, nothing else happend except one hit on my AK in the Perth area.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 03/26/42

DDs from KB found SS Dolphin.

E13A1 Jake attacking Searaven at 7,100
Searaven is reported HIT

E8N Dave attacking Searaven at 7,100
Searaven is reported HIT

Perth AF was bombed, but AF is not closed yet (48 sys damage). What makes me worry that only 3 Zeros escored bombers on their mission although Daitai from Hiryu was set on escort 0%.

Well, what to say about invasion. I'm not confident, not at all. He have more than 30 K men, 250 guns and 55 AFV according to last recon reports. I was questioned myself what to do - do i have to recall invasion, do i need to disembark troops north of Perth to avoid losses during amphibious landing (lots of guns there!)...but it would take forever and i dont have time!

I doubt that i have enough forces to capture Perth, and i don't know what i can expect from landings and coastal gun fire. It can be a disaster, i know, but i need experience in that kind of the operations.

Anyway, it was too late to recall operation, my troops are already on the Australian soil, and i guess that Aussie troops are unlocked from that moment.

Well let's see what will happend - i should look at the bright side of it - i have BB FF prior landings and i managed to get here before April the 1st when amph. bonus expires.

EDIT:: I've started a propaganda war aslo - told Andy it is full scale invasion and hope that i will caught and destroy lots of his troops here. Hah! first part is true, but second.... errr....

CHINA

Massive air raid launched from Wuhan. It was success, but that victory is certainly a sign that my Samurais will faced though days soon.

Day Air attack on Chungking , at 43,32

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 108
Ki-21 Sally x 111
Ki-49 Helen x 12

Allied aircraft
Hurricane II x 10

Allied aircraft losses

36 casualties reported

Airbase hits 8
Airbase supply hits 5
Runway hits 79

A2A - 43:15, destroyed on the ground - 16, overall losses today: Allied 61; Japan 23

Chungking was defended with 453 RAAF (Huricanes) and AVG. Hm, forgot about Mohawks, which shot down some of my crack pilots.. grrrr...

F2 Tainan daitai flew first and took heavy losses - it is now down to 15 pilots....

This is becoming serious issue. I've decreased CAP level but same ol' story - only 3 Zeros flying to escort....(i have two CV TF)

I'm not satisfied with strategic bombing too. Scored 25 hits but only 37 resource damaged (less than 100 victory points achived here).

DEPLOYMENT OF FORCES IN THE PERTH

And what to do now. I have no strengh to capture Perth, i think. Maybe it would be a close call but still would be short. If only there isn't Australian armoured unit.....

I need your advice guys - have several options:

#1. embark troops and leave - i don't like it but i would free KB for other operations. As long as KB is near Perth Andy have open hands in other theatres...

#2. Stay with KB few more days and bomb HI and resources. After my troops finish unloading i can try deliberate attack. As i mentioned i'm not hoping i will capture Perth, but doubt that Andy can bring additional reinforcements except via sea.

These troops will be in danger but i think they can hold until Derby is captured - about a month. For phase 2, i have in Soerbaya IM Guard div (PP 18 for Derby), 18th Div (21) and 21 Mix Bde. I can use several smaller units (naval guards, etc) and divisions which are traveling to Java at the moment - 48th div, 56th div, 2nd div, 16 div and 38th div (the least division is still at the Manila). These divisions are preparing for Darwin but i can switch them to Derby/ or take Derby with brutal force.

Once is Derby captured my troops at Perth are free to escape. I can move towards Derby earlier if they found themself in the danger at Perth (I'm clearing railroad with 65 bde).

What do you think guys?

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 03/28/42

Things are not looking good in Australia. Strategic bombing from KB was cancelad due bad weather and every day more i stay here it become more dangerous. I've decided to give one more day for strategic bombing (but leave most of Kate daitais on naval attack). Bombardment TF's are disbanded - BBs are now part of KB, same as CAs and DDs. But, this additional flak is weak comfort (consolation) if enemy arrives with his carriers. If everything go right, i will create ligth bombardment group (CAs and DD's) and send it to another visit to Perth, just before deliberate attack.

What makes me even more worried is new enemy unit that shows in the hex where 65th bde disembarks! If this is "serious" unit, well than I'm in trouble!

(Strategic redeployment of "Perth invasion group", or "Run Forrest, run-go" is my second choice).

Looks like Andy exactly knows where, when and how i will strike. I assume that allied intel gives him precious infortions. If is that case, than all whining about Allied fanboys of "bad intel design" drops in the water. I'm not complaining and think that intel should be quite effective (as it was in my game against Mac).

Coastal Guns at Perth, 7,100, firing at TF 40
TF 40 troops unloading over beach at Perth, 7,100

277 Coastal gun shots fired in defense.
Japanese Ships
DD Nowaki
CA Kumano

Japanese ground losses:

375 casualties reported

Allied ground losses:
6 casualties reported

Do i really have chance here?

Ground combat at Perth

Allied Bombardment attack

Attacking force 29270 troops, 277 guns, 4 vehicles

Defending force 56354 troops, 461 guns, 196 vehicles

Japanese ground losses:

Allied ground losses:
41 casualties reported

Another kill by minelaying sub - maybe I really need to change all my subs to minelaying mission!

Sub attack near Karachi at 21,3

Japanese Ships
SS I-124

Allied Ships
AK Sibolga, Shell hits 1, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage - sinks -

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Coastal Guns at Perth, 7,100, firing at TF 40

73 Coastal gun shots fired in defense.
Japanese Ships

AP Daifuku Maru, Shell hits 8, on fire, heavy damage
CA Kumano, Shell hits 8

Japanese ground losses:
190 casualties reported

Allied ground losses:
35 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

Derby invasion:

Imperial guard div, 18th div, 21 mix bde and 48 div will join together in next few days. Baby KB is two days from Soerbaya, while second wave assigned for Derby invasion includes 56 div and 2 div...

CHINA

We are trying to close Chungking AF and everything goes smoothly, for now. But what annoys me is that my bomber groups from Wuchow (no HQ but less then 100 ac there) refuses to attack enemy ground units at the crossroads - hey, i know that bombers had smaller chance to take off and bomb ground units, but i guess that founding one unit of 45 in 60 miles hex wouldn't be a problem.

Day Air attack on Chungking , at 43,32

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 19
Ki-21 Sally x 108
Ki-49 Helen x 12
Ki-15 Babs x 4

Allied aircraft

No Japanese losses

Allied aircraft losses
I-16c: 1 destroyed, 1 damaged
P-40E Warhawk: 1 destroyed

Allied ground losses:
61 casualties reported

Airbase supply hits 3

He withdrew most of his beaten ac groups to Chengtu.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 03/29/42

Still don't know what to do with the Perth - i've loaded two divisions and mix bde and transport fleet is now near Bali. Baby KB at Soerbaja with slow BBs

Maybe i should use these divisions for capturing Perth instead Derby?

Pluses

- one Aus div, Aus bde, USMC rtg and Tk rtg will be anihilated (ok, not exactly, there is still enough subs to evacuate cadres).
- enemy forces would be streched all over continent
- enemy can't reinforce Perth except via sea rute

Minuses

- It would take another month till these divisions arrives.
- enemy planing offensive in the other areas, i'm sure. Reinforcing Perth would give Mac additional time for that
- Derby invasion can be suported from Koepang AF, while Perth is isolated (this is + and - in the same time

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My tank rtg was loaded on two AK and now it takes forever to unload.

Coastal Guns at Perth, 7,100, firing at TF 40

I'm switching targets in the China just to give Andy headche. Also, when i set City bombing i'm sure that planes will attack.
Chungking AF ia offically closed /70 damage/, and another strike on Chungking resources (and oil) ordered.

Sweep over Chengtu is ordered for tomorrow with two Zero daitais. One of them is semi trained (65 exp) but fighters at Chengtu should be demoralised.

Day Air attack on Kunming , at 39,33

Japanese aircraft
Ki-21 Sally x 60
Ki-49 Helen x 26

No Japanese losses

Resources hits 30

I can't resist, i know. Ordered for tomorrow strategic bombing too - but all Kates are on naval attack now plus one Val daitai. Still only 3 Zeros flying on escort... grrr... no matter what i do. I know that i could be faced with bad cordination (one of my CV TF is well above 200 planes) but something tells me that this is not a case: three time in row 3 zeros flew - if this was bad coordination than number of Zero would be different each time...

Day Air attack on Perth , at 7,100

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 3
D3A Val x 125
B5N Kate x 20
E8N Dave x 2
F1M2 Pete x 2
E13A1 Jake x 4

Japanese aircraft losses
D3A Val: 1 destroyed, 23 damaged
E8N Dave: 2 destroyed

Heavy Industry hits 34

Aircraft Attacking:
22 x D3A Val bombing at 2000 feet
23 x D3A Val bombing at 2000 feet
19 x D3A Val bombing at 2000 feet
17 x D3A Val bombing at 2000 feet
20 x B5N Kate bombing at 7000 feet
24 x D3A Val bombing at 2000 feet
19 x D3A Val bombing at 2000 feet

It's time for Padang. One more attack and last Dutch base is in my hand... Sub activity noticed in the Padang waters - Palembang is turned into ASW base. Let's hope my bomber crew will caught something.

Ground combat at Padang

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 2566 troops, 18 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 1363 troops, 4 guns, 2 vehicles

Japanese assault odds: 3 to 1 (fort level 2)

Japanese Assault reduces fortifications to 1

Japanese ground losses:
23 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

Allied ground losses:
25 casualties reported

EDIT: from what Andy said in his e-mail he isn't happy with my landings north of Perth with 65bde. I don't have problem with that, generaly speaking. What would be wrong if Japanese invaded Australia and part of troops invaded beaches 180 miles north of Perth and cut off supply/reinforcement patch?

Ok, it blocading units at Perth at the same time (no other way for retreat) but that's why i choosed Perth - it is far away and connected only with one railroad. But this is a double sword edge... it can become a big Japanese graveyard....

I have my own personal limitations about invading nonbase hex - like i never invading in the hex between Manila and Naga and blocade retreat path only with paras or small units...

At stake here is the princaple of not landing in non-base hexes. To tell you the truth, I wouldn't do it and I would be disapointed if my opponent did. Landing 180 miles north is not the problem, but the fact that it results in the surrender of the Perth defenders. I don't wan't to go deep into Australian geography here because I'm not familiar with it.

thanks Honda for the input. However, no it doesn't mean surrender of the Perth defenders. He can move some unit from Perth (let's say N of the Perth) but not on the railroad and this way will ensure retreat path.

Next, in case that i wasn't landed there, MY retreat path wouldn't exist and my units would surrender (if Andy bring reinforcements, what is doing right now i assume) - well, the coin have two sides, at least.

Anyway, I'm sure that Andy will save those units (if Perth become in danger) via subs and than rebuild them.

Well, we all different, i guess that same persons doesn't have the same oppinions on what is gamey.
I posted it not because Andy complain about it (he didn't, he noticed that he will do the same and this is fair enough; like i don't like picket line but noticed that I will do too), I've posted it because i hope that this will help other players to avoid misunderstandings. Fortunatly, Andy is nice guy (almost as me:) and we can settle down things.

Nothing happends last two days, but lots of thing happening behind the scene.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 04/01/42

No significant action today too, so i have a time to write about my strategy plans. It wasn't easy decision, but imperial HQ decide to reinforce Perth rather then invasion on Derby.

Reinforcements are on their way - another wave consist of Imperial Guard Division, 18th Division, 56th Div, 1st and 23rd Eng rtg, 23th Mix Bde, 91 Naval Guard garnison, 25th Army and two small BF.

As you can see I'm bringing the whole Combined Fleet here, but have no choice - Andy is on full alert and he can send all his carriers (American and the British) in western Australia waters. That's why I organized full air cover for transports all the way. I'm hope that i will have enough fuel (I have cca 140.000 fuel in two repelnishment fleet).

KB have enough sorties for two full scale attack (and even more, i think), so this shouldn't be problem either.

My main concerns are:

- Andy would arrive (via railroad) faster than me - and i hope that 65th Bde would delay his forces.

- Andy would send his bombers to Perth - i can not keep it closed for ever (actually AF is operational now) ... actually does anyone know if he can transfer 4E bombers via air (railroad is closed) from Derby to Perth ? (Yes i'm like to ask questions on which i never got the answer )

- no matter what i do with my CVs and airgroups i have always only 3 Zeros on the escort... can't post this on forum...

Yes, when i've decided to reinforce "Perth invasion group", the Gallipoli comes to my mind. Let's hope that Perth invasion would not turns into another Gallipoli. I done everything i could i think...

KLOKAN-GO, PHASE 2 /CHANGED/

MALAYA & BURMA

I will have full hands with Australia, so i need to secure my flank. Burma is defended with 33th Division (Rangoon), 4 Mix rtg (Mandalay), 23th Mix Bde (going to Moulmein), 7th Tk rtg (going to Tavoy), while 55th Division loading at Manila and will defend Bankok. Three naval units (SNLF and NG) are also in Manila and will arive in two weeks in Burma (Tavoy, Moulmein).

4th Division is on route to Singapore and will defend the city.

Other four divisions (2th, 16th, 38th and 48th) are few days from Soerbaya and they will wait and prepare for North Australia.

PACIFIC

56th Bde and South East Detachment are in Truk. 35th Bde will join them latter (on route to Truk). I hope i will have time to deploy that forces to Rabaul and Buin (latter base desperatly need air support - i forgot it!) before enemy strikes again.

20th Division from Korea is relased to SAA and will probably go to Truk.

So it doesn't look so desperate here, but i would be in such mood if Andy strike on Marshalls... but that's counted risk....

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 04/02/42

Baby KB found fuel/supply conwoy to Australia in the Indian ocean! I think that one TK and two AK are lost....

Day Air attack on TF at 13,78

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 23
B5N Kate x 31

Japanese aircraft losses
B5N Kate: 1 destroyed

Allied Ships
AK West Cawthon, Torpedo hits 3, on fire, heavy damage
AK Florence Luckenbach, Torpedo hits 1
TK Empire Flint, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage
AK Foch
AK Empire Tower, Torpedo hits 1
AK Katong
AK Gran

I've expected better results - afraid that Florence and Empire Tower aren't seriously damaged.

Here comes second wave...

Day Air attack on TF at 13,78

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 2
B5N Kate x 5

No Japanese losses

Allied Ships
PT PT-36
AK Annalock, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage

Ok, I will not chase his transpors - B KB main mission is to protect reinforcements to Perth so i've ordered B KB to go S SE. It is always nice to sink enemy transports, but i have more important job to do now. And i have to be careful - you never know with this Scot: maybe he just tried to sneak fuel to Australia, but i can not be sure.

He just love to use "kamikaze ships" and maybe it is a trap. I can not forget the fact that he knows where are the my carriers while i'm not! It is also possible that he thinks KB is still near Perth (i have one CA fleet 5 hex north of Perth and Jakes fly to Perth on recon mission) so it is possible that he is fooled...

However, KB should be in reach of my reinforcement fleet tomorrow and things will look better now.

I'm going to post war industry statistics later....

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 04/03/42

This conwoy is really big, B KB attacked again - Andy moving them southeast (to Derby). What he planing there? Does he really hoped that he would sneak this conwoy or (more likely) it is decoy? I dunno, if this is a decoy than reinforcements troops to Perth are on their way (Sydney - Perth south route) possibly with carriers as escort.

Hah, my paranoia working! It will be really fun when i'm would read Andy's Mac - i guess i will laugh, a lot.

Anyway, i need to refuel CVs and other ships, send fast BB's to Koepang and than escort slow BBs and reinforcement troops to Perth. It's logistical nightmare, believe me!

I will solve logistical problems, but this will cost me a precious time.

Andy moved ac into Perth - but two BF can support 60 planes.

Day Air attack on TF at 15,80

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 24
B5N Kate x 30

Japanese aircraft losses
B5N Kate: 5 damaged

Allied Ships
AK Delawarean, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage (SINKS)
AK Florence Luckenbach, Torpedo hits 3, on fire, heavy damage (SINKS)
AK Gran, Torpedo hits 3, on fire, heavy damage (SINKS)
MSW Baroda
AK Empire Steelhead
AK Empire Grenfell

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 2
B5N Kate x 5

Japanese aircraft losses
B5N Kate: 1 destroyed, 2 damaged

Allied Ships
MSW Baroda
AK Empire Parsons, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage

Day Air attack on TF at 14,80

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 24
B5N Kate x 15

No Japanese losses

Allied Ships
AK West Cawthon, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage (SINKS)

That's all very nice, but Rjuyo have now only 60 sorties and my ac groups have fatigue over 10... B KB will sail 120 miles north. I detached all SC ships I could afford and send them in the intercept mission. Let's hope for the best!

SS Dolphin (damaged at Perth waters) sunk...

CHINA

I'm the ruler of China skies, but on the land Andy gives me beating. Let's see what will happen tomorrow on the notorious crossroad - i've ordered deliberate attack (7.500 AP now there!)... yeah, i know i can be stubborn too...

Strikes on Sian resources and Chungking resource and oil - i want starve Chinese.

Day Air attack on Sian , at 47,29

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 24
Ki-21 Sally x 26

Allied aircraft
I-16c x 1

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-21 Sally: 1 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
I-16c: 1 destroyed

Resources hits 7

--------------------------------------------

Day Air attack on Chungking , at 43,32

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 12
Ki-21 Sally x 93
Ki-49 Helen x 58
Ki-15 Babs x 4

No Japanese losses

Oil hits 34

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 04/04/42

CHINA

Aaaaagrh...! Why I didn't ordered shock attack on the Chinese units? why? I'm stupid that's why... got 1-1 odds but doubt that will have such opportunity again. Andy reinforcing his strongpoint on the crossroad (4 units shall arrive there soon) and my bombers STILL DON'T attack his ground units.... I was expecting a lot from this attack and must admit that i'm dissapointed...

Ground combat at 42,37

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 421415 troops, 4262 guns, 417 vehicles

Defending force 184767 troops, 867 guns, 0 vehicles

Japanese assault odds: 1 to 1

Japanese ground losses:
7259 casualties reported
Guns lost 552
Vehicles lost 20

Allied ground losses:
3374 casualties reported
Guns lost 94

Can't attack again - disruption is over 80! and down to 6.300 AP here... phew!

That was important part of my strategy - win here over the Chinese and capture Kweiyang. I had no itention to advance further (towards Kunming), i would turn to Sian-Homan. I cant send any more unit there and think that Andy's moral growing - opposite to my intentions...

I can' get it what Andy doing with his subs - going from India to Australia and then again to India. This one get's lucky and torpedoed my AP near Singapore. I have ASW naval combat there, but so far my ASW naval forces are joke...

Sub attack at 22,51

Japanese Ships
AP Teia Maru, Torpedo hits 1, on fire

Allied Ships
SS O16

And the good news now. My small raider forces didn't intercept enemy transports fleeing to Broome during night, but they did it during day phase:)

Day Time Surface Combat at 16,81

Japanese Ships
CL Naka
DD Kuri
DD Fuyo

Allied Ships
AK Empire Parsons, Shell hits 9, and is sunk

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Day Time Surface Combat at 17,82

Japanese Ships
DD Fubuki
DD Yugiri, Shell hits 1

Allied Ships
MSW Baroda, Shell hits 2, Torpedo hits 1, and is sunk
PT PT-36
AK Empire Audacity, Shell hits 6, on fire
AK Empire Steelhead
AK Empire Ocean, Shell hits 7, on fire
AK Empire Grenfell, Shell hits 6, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage (SINKS)
AK Katong
AK Foch, Shell hits 8, on fire
AK Helios, Shell hits 11, on fire

Not a bad performance - i've sunk 2 AKs and MSW, while others are damaged - i hope that they are loosing their cargo too (as they loose when they are hit from the air).

I have the feeling that i keep wining all those small victories, but afraid that Gods of fortune will be against me in the decisive battles....

----------------------------------------------

Ground combat at Perth

Japanese Bombardment attack

Attacking force 21725 troops, 268 guns, 7 vehicles

Defending force 36526 troops, 308 guns, 107 vehicles

Allied ground losses:
24 casualties reported
Guns lost 2

Strange... no enemy planes reported in Perth anymore. I didn't reconed base this time, but guessing that when my troops in the enemy base hex the famous cross should be visible at least

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 04/05/42

I've interecept his transports with DD and aux ships last night. PT and AK are sunk, but AK Katong hit DD Yugure! She is seriously damagede (39/4/9) and ordered to return at Java! Aux ships which were involved in combat gains experience and these which fired are now at 57 night exp... Akitsu Maru have moderate damage (25 sys) but she is at 63 exp now!

Commander of misfortune Yugure - K. Kamo - took the sword and prepared himself for seppuku but his crew convinced him not to take such radical solution. Observer on the Yugure, Noriaki Kasai told Kamo that AK was camuflated aux CL -not the AK.

"Besides that, you will got your revenge only if you stay live, commander Kamo", Kasai pointed.

Night Time Surface Combat at 18,82

Japanese Ships
DD Yugure, Shell hits 1, on fire
PG Akitsu Maru, Shell hits 1
PG Choan Maru #2
PG Heijo Maru
PG Keiko Maru
PC Takunan Maru #2

Allied Ships
PT PT-36, Shell hits 1, and is sunk
AK Empire Steelhead, Shell hits 10, Torpedo hits 2, and is sunk
AK Katong, Shell hits 4, on fire

I moved lots of ac in Koepang and waited til weather improves. Rear admiral R. Takenaka (Cic of the 23rd Air flotilla based at Koepang) send report to Imperial HQ about great victory over the Derby skies. Here it is:

Here it's short translation:

"Today we conducted a great air offensive against Derby which was defended by 12th RAAF flying Hurricanes, 24th RAAF (Wirraways), 75th RAAF (Kittys) and 221st WMF (Wildcats - from San Diego). Our brave fighter samurais suffered some losses but we destroyed 60 planes!

Air defence at Derby is broken now. Banzai!"

Rear admiral R. Takenaka

Imperial HQ turns back message to real admiral together with some decorations. Following pilots are awarded with 5th class of Golden kite - Fujita and Uto (8 kills)..Interstingly, Saburo Sakai have only one kill - although he flew 44 missions...

But what Rear admiral didn't wrote is that quite a lot Samurais didn't back from the missions - 13 Zero pilots are now RiP, mostly from F1 Tainan Daitai which has now 16 pilots. Last month of Zero bonus shows what will happend in the future - i've got 2-1 kills ratio (36-18), and only thank's to destroyed Allied ac on the ground 3-1 ratio is achived (total losses 60 Allies - 19 Japan).

This was neccesary mission, hope that i would confuse Andy and he will await invasion on Derby - i need the time, reinforcements for Perth are still 10 days (at least) from Perth...

Day Air attack on Derby , at 24,85

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 55

Allied ground losses:

Airbase hits 10
Airbase supply hits 3

CHINA

The giant are awakening. Two attacks against my "recon units", but at least enemy spend some supply.

Ground combat at 49,26- east of Yenen, Mong. Ca. Div couldn't resist...

Allied Shock attack

Attacking force 39964 troops, 251 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 4525 troops, 37 guns, 0 vehicles

Allied assault odds: 263 to 1

Japanese ground losses:
341 casualties reported
Guns lost 5

Allied ground losses:
322 casualties reported
Guns lost 9

I think i will withdraw from Yenen to Chengting and Tantung ... have only one div and smaller units here(near 1000 AP)

Defeated Japanese Units Retreating!

Ground combat at 46,32 - northwest of the Ichang.

Allied Shock attack

Attacking force 66300 troops, 499 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 3043 troops, 9 guns, 0 vehicles

Allied assault odds: 1889 to 1

Japanese ground losses:
606 casualties reported
Guns lost 4

Allied ground losses:
170 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

Defeated Japanese Units Retreating!

Ichang - one of my weak spot - have 550 AP and level 5 fort.... But Kaifeng could be in danger too - 700 AP but lvl 9 fort level...

Are these battles start of the Chinese offensive? If the answer is yes, let's hope that my units will resist as the Chinese resist earlier

Ok, time for strategy overview in the China. As you may see from the picture, i have several weak points in my defense: Tatung, Kaifeng, Ichang and Hengchow.

I've decide to retreat from Yenen to secure Chengting which can be threathened from Yenen but from Homan too...

I have to deal with Tatung too but later... this base is not on railroad line.

I'm hoping that Kaifeng and Ichang can be defended, but if not they should hold nine days when another four divisions arrives as reinforcements (303 AV). Those divisions can defend my lines together with available troops, i hope.

This leaves Hengchow as only realy weak spot, and didn't see anything else then detach Div and bde from the crossroad and send them to Hengchow...

The lower picture have nothing with defence of the China of course, i just wanted to share with community this logistical nightmare - but in a turn or two i will have just 3 or 4 fleets again:)

I remember this picture!!!
Last time I saw it was playing against you as Allies in UV scen 17 or 19. Only the traffic was around NG. One thing I have to hand you is noone puts so many TFs on the ocean like you do
I even saved that particular turn to explain to my heretic friend (ex-RTS and FPS fan, now a WoW casulty) what was going on in my game and seeing a horde of red little icon thingies gave him a solid picture of what was happening.
I only hope the red icon thingies in the sea don't end up like the ones I mentioned

I'm sure that these icons won't end like the ones you mentioned - fleets are gatehing in 3 or 4 hexes now under protection of KB. It was such a headche, i admit, but it was neccessary - fast BB's transfered to B KB, and slow ones transfered from B KB to KB and going to Perth. Furthermore did not want to spend all sorties from B KB and that's why i formed small raider forces (i can be pleased with their performance although some ships will probably sneak to Derby/Broome. But as i mentioned before i have a more important job to do then chase low scoring transports).

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 04/06/42

Now the things warm up. One enemy units shows in railroad hex north of Perth (3 hexes away). I have there only one bde and we shall see what Andy planing there soon. Meanwhile, my fast BBs protected with B KB are few days from Koepang - after refueling i will send them on bombardment mission (Derby) - some warships are reported there (1 CA and DD?), but transports are there (six of them) as well. But, this is not my primary goal - i want to destroy more enemy ac on the ground and destroy their morale. After that i can send another air raid on Derby from Koepang. This will work only if Andy don't react and bombed Koepang (from Darwin - almost 100 bombers are there). I expecting such a move from him, he did not do nothing with his heavies last two months i think!

Night Time Surface Combat at 19,83

Japanese Ships
DD Fubuki
DD Yugiri

Allied Ships
AK Katong, Shell hits 7, on fire, heavy damage

DD's revenged misfortunate K. Kamo and doubt that enemy transport will make it to the friendly fort.

CHINA

I've made experiment - my IJAAF bombers regulary attack enemy structures - even in the thunderstorms! Why i can't force my bombers to attack his ground troops at the crossroads? Anyway, trying another one experiment. This time i've order bombers from Wuchow to attack enemy LCUs one hex north of crossroads (Andy sending reinforcements on the crossroad)

Day Air attack on Kweiyang , at 41,35

Japanese aircraft
Ki-21 Sally x 60
Ki-49 Helen x 27
Ki-15 Babs x 5

No Japanese losses

Allied ground losses:
21 casualties reported

Airbase hits 6
Airbase supply hits 3
Runway hits 35

--------------------------------------

Day Air attack on Chungking , at 43,32

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 24
Ki-21 Sally x 82
Ki-49 Helen x 60
Ki-15 Babs x 5

No Japanese losses

Resources hits 36

80 enemy figthers reported in Chengtu. What he planing there? It's annoying because i could run in trap there (i'm conducting strategic boming there and train my fighter crew).

Last few days i've recived lots of untrained air groups (Mogami trainig method): 59 Ftr Sentai (exp 53, 36 planes); 11 Ftr Sentai/B (12), F1 Omura Daitai (Zero, 38 exp/27 planes)

I will transfer them to my training camps (Cayagan, Davao, Palembang and Soerbaya), which are already working at full capacity:

app 80 Nates, 12 Oscars and F1 Ominato Daitai (exp 50), F3 Chutai (exp 59), while F4 Toko Daitai trains in the China (55exp).

I've recived one green Kate group and two Vals Chutais.

Yes, a lot of things must be managed by the Jap player. But my main concern is will Andy reinforce Perth or not...

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 04/07/42

Not a much to report.

46 Sallys sent on resources raid (Sian) and scored only one resource hit- one Sally is lost in the mission.

I moved some additional air groups (one more Zero daitai and land based bombers) and will try raid on Chengtu AF. Lot's of figters reported there (app 80) but only 4 chinese fighters on the CAP last few days. Are those figters Allied mercenaries or chinese stood down - well we shall see tomorrow.

I thought that something is wrong about air attacks on Chinese ground units! As you may recall, i've ordered attack on chinese troops just north of crossroad - and they regulary flew! Bombers from Wuhan (AF was operational!) didn't attack enemy on the crossroad.

It seems that this crossroad is "ghost" for air routine. But I will keep trying...

I've bombed Akyab too, with semi-trained Betty's just to gain some experience.

I got reports that enemy TK sinks (near Broome) and SS Tarpon (at Cairns).

One of my float planes (Jake i think) hit enemy sub at the NW horn of Australia. Not a much but will be easier to detect this sub later, i hope. ASW TF is sent on that position (subs were reported turn before) but once again did not spot and engage enemy sub.

Here is some update on war industry.

I'm pretty low on supply everywhere, especially in Japan - but that's reasonable since i'm expanding nava shipyards, repair shipyards and engines. I have enough oil and resources in Home islands - my transports working at 100% capacity and heavy industry is too slow for them at the moment. But in week or two supply should be on satisfying level.

I'm short with supply on Java too (25K is there, which isn't enough for offensive action) and i'm sending more supply from Tarakan and Toboali - but supply is also needed elswere...

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 04/08/42

Ah, I was one turn behind Andy - enemy CAP waited for me. I've lost 8 Zeros but shot down 14. Unfortunatly, his CAP get through and destroyed some of my Army bombers. And have only 20 trained IJA pilots in the pool. Interesting to say, planes on CAP were T and W hawks, but Wildcats too - from the Lexington!

Thanks to ac destroyed on ground, todays enemy losses were slightly bigger then ours.

Andy moved some ac to Chungking and I'm responding with small bomber strike but escorted with LOTs of fighters - should be interesting.

This was raid on Koepang - bombers sent from Derby. I've incereased the CAP for tomorrow while Baby KB and fast BB's should arrive in the port for refueling.

Reinforcements to Perth are 5 days away...

I've forgot to mention in my yesterday industry & navy overview that I have 8 ARs now. Four of them are in Singapore, 3 in Osaka and one in Hirosihima. I'm building 15 more AR ships and after equipping Osaka and Hiroshima to optional number of 4 AR, i will have 12 more. (I'm thinking about Tokyo, Shangay and 4 more to Pacific...)

I lost CR for yesterday, but only action worth to be mentioned is air raid on Chungking - i shot down 8 enemy fighters (and lost 3), but ops losses are going to kill me - so overall air losses were on Andy side this time...

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 04/10/42

One SNLF unit unloading at Akyab and shock attack ordered for tomorrow. Blenheims attacked transport fleet but with no results:)

Perth invasion group is now 5 hexes from the base. But American CV's appeared and attacked my "kamikaze naval guard TF" south of the Perth. Well, i don't like it, but certainly wont limit myself using that while enemy wont.

Day Air attack on TF at 3,109

Allied aircraft
F4F-4 Wildcat x 22
SBD Dauntless x 17

Allied aircraft losses
SBD Dauntless: 1 damaged

Japanese Ships
AP Giyu Maru, Bomb hits 1, on fire
AP Rozan Maru, Bomb hits 5, on fire, heavy damage

Day Air attack on TF at 3,109

Allied aircraft
SBD Dauntless x 34

No Allied losses

Japanese Ships
AP Rozan Maru, Bomb hits 10, on fire, heavy damage
AP Giyu Maru, Bomb hits 8, on fire, heavy damage

And now, what to do? I was considering a chase for enemy carriers, but decide to stick my original plan. If he want me (i'm doubt) well, he have to come for it. I ordered all my Tf's to close Perth on 3 hexes. I'm aware that he could transfer CV groups to Perth, but that's why i ordered bombardment with CAs TF.

Fast BBs will bombard Derby tomorrow and hopefully air strike from Koepang would be coordinated with this daring mission.

Mongolian calvary unit are no longer holding positions at Yenan - after the long "siege" Yenen can start produce supply. But will deal with Yenen industry latter - first have to make sure that Chungking AF is closed, then i'm going to deal with figthers at Chengtu (level 1 AF but almost 100 fighters there!)...

Ground combat at Yenen

Allied Shock attack

Attacking force 48257 troops, 365 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 4788 troops, 40 guns, 0 vehicles

Allied assault odds: 253 to 1

Japanese ground losses:
858 casualties reported
Guns lost 23

Allied ground losses:
363 casualties reported

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 04/11/42

A very exciting turn. Andy did not move with carriers towards Perth or transfered carrier based ac to the base. I guess that he was afraid of my bombardment TF. My CA's did not inflict significant damage to Perth:

Naval bombardment of Perth, at 7,100 - Coastal Guns Fire Back!

21 Coastal gun shots fired in defense.
Japanese Ships
DD Sanae
DD Hasu
DD Hatakaze
DD Harukaze
DD Asakaze
DD Yudachi
DD Hagikaze
CA Furutaka
CA Aoba
CA Kumano

CA Chokai
CA Atago
CA Takao

Allied ground losses:
286 casualties reported
Guns lost 14
Vehicles lost 2

Airbase hits 1
Airbase supply hits 1
Runway hits 5
Port hits 2

Ok, these ships will be now used for supporting amphibious invasion. They will join transports 2 hex away from Perth where i've sent all my TF's. My troops at Perth will attack tomorrow - i need to get fort level down, but what is more important is causing some casaulties/disruption to the defenders. I need as much as possible lighter casaulties during disembarking.

No naval bombardment for tomorrow, i've decide to wait for another turn. Let's hope it was good decision.

Naval bombers from CV's hit SS Sealion.

There is no much examples in history that IJN and IJA coordinated their actions well. Yes, IJA planes from Koepang did not attack Derby AF so all honour goes to IJN this time.

Kongo BB TF found several ships at Derby waters, only few survived til dawn.

Two ships are reported south of Tarawa! I guess it is invasion fleet for Tarawa. I've responded with transfering Nells and Zeros to Kwajalein but their destination is Maloelap. I have there air HQ and 150 air support - and from there i can reach Tarawa with Zeros!

I think that Solomons are not in danger now (2 US CVs are now in south Australia waters) so i've decided to send South East Detachment to Marshalls.

CHINA

My air raid on Chungking was right on time! Andy moved fighters there, which alert me last turn. And i was right - 60 bombers waiting in Ledo. Andy want to strike with them on my targets in the China and this we must not allow.

Day Air attack on Chungking , at 43,32 - that was strike from Ichang.

Oscars were our heros today! Their sacrifice would remain forever in the anals of IJA AF. 16 Oscars were shot down (14 pilots) but they managed to shot down 17 enemy planes! (Of course Oscars pilots are crack ones - app 80 exp).

Tojo Chutai deserve a honour as well - i've lost one Tojo but 7 enemy planes shot down. Zero Daitai is awarded with 4 kills.

So total outcome is 40 enemy planes lost (28 A2A, 11 destroyed on the ground), while i lost 24 planes (18 A2A,2 flak, 4 ops)

I will try to finish job there tomorrow with strike from Wuhan. Bombers will be escorted with 40 Zeros. Let's hope they will fly from Wuhan (weater report - rains)

Remains of my paras are again forced to retreat to the woods west east of the Kunming.

Ground combat at 40,34

Defending force 1021 troops, 0 guns, 0 vehicles

It would be perfect turn, but Andy's Chinese offensive leaves a bad taste in my mouth. He crossed river and arrived on railorad between Changsha and Hengchow. Couldn't he wait few more days? I'm reciving 4 divisions in two days and my troops have to keep their positions until reinforcements arrives!

Transport fleet spoted at Nanomea atoll. I'm almost 100% sure he prepares for Tarawa.

Ok, here you can see how many crack pilots Andy lost (+ planes lost at the Chungking). Their replacements certaintly don't have 80 experience.

Yankees attacking my positions in Pacific. Men from 27th US division captured Apamama. I do not know is that the whole division assaulting on empty base (doubt it, but if Andy commit full division, then who am i to complain?). Ok, it seems that he goes on Marshalls. Well, i will have tomorrow Junyo and considering to transfer Baby KB to Pacific.

56th division disembarking, but it seems that Imperial Guard Division don't. My elite division is loaded on AKs - perhaps this is a problem?

My brigade came to railorad hex north of Perth - defended by Dutch naval force - 4 men!

Disruption level is app 50, i will wait few days and attack then. Perth should be in my hands in next two weeks.

Allied Bombardment attack

CHINA

Shock attack ordered on Chinese LCU at crossroad - i have 6.800 AP but very nervous about that. I couldn't wait more, Chinese units that crossed on the railroad puts me in danger.
Bombers from Wuhan attacked those units.

I've got 4 new divisions! - one will stay in Nanchang, but two brigades with 100 PP (Changsha) are relased for Changsha so don't think that i could loose Changsha.

Division from Poatong (north China) will move to Kaifeng.

Third division marching towards Ichang, while the fourth will be mobile reserve.

I'm glad i can announce new ASW success. SS Sealion finalliy sinks, while following subs are hit:

D3A Val attacking KIX at 7,100 (Perth)

I have to live with that, i can not take any countermeasures before i capture Perth. Than I will have KB and BBs for action - Derby is next target!

I will use Junyo and Baby KB for those sneaky FT TF...
