My god. Armageddon..............

I see the key thing to victory is surpessing his airfields. Surely all he has available to stop you immediately now is LBA as his CV's must be pretty knackered too. Can you close the necessary airfields? If not I think his LBA will smite you.

I can suppress some but not all I will hurt tommorrow but so will he. Don't forget I hit his LBA Fighters yesterday

Most of my big carriers will move 12 hexes out of danger tomorrow leaving 2 CVE's and perhaps 2 CVL's to fighter cap the invasion fleet I will probably leave the Battlewagons and Cruisers and lots of DD's with the fleet.

I will lose a few but so be it

To be honest I am thinking all B24J's on Naval Attack tomorrow !!!

OK where to begin I now have seen the turn Essex is 80 sys and can only make 5 knots as can Oklahoma

Bellau Wood is in trouble as well.

I have flown 9 Hellcats and 40 Wildcats onto the two remaining CVE's and leaving most of the BB's in the line going for VP.

Basically if he can restock his carriers my invasion is toast bombers are set to suppress Rqangoon, Tavoy and VP.

2 Sqns of B24's are on naval attack

My fast carriers are retiring on Akyab where they will rearm with fighters

I call yesterday a draw at worst for me so lets see what happens

Tactical draw/marginal Jap victory but allied strategic victory.

I will tell you why not only have I killed 900 ish elite Jap pilots including most of KB's elite mob BUT i sank a CVE and put 2 CV's damaged.

Looks like Essex and Oklahoma may make it today and my landings got ashore in sufficient strength.

I should have to endure one more day of pain tomorrow but all my carriers will restock with fighters today so the fleet will be recovered tomorrow.

add to that all I have lost is 3 CVE's and 1 CVL then this is a good day.

The lightness of the attacks is an excellent result.

I have many Divisions ashore and a reserve Corps still at Madras waiting to load.

Lots of Seabees and more that 1m tonnes of supplys.

As soon as the AF is taken I will fly in 200 Corsairs or Thuds and then its time to drive on Bangkok leaving a solid garrison behind. (lots of Seabees to build forts quickly so VP should have lvl 9 forts ultra quick 2 can play tyhat game !!!)

I will have one more day of pain but it should be survivable.

I get 13 more CVE's in next 60 days and if I can secure more bases resupply will not be a problem.

Today was a good day despite the losses !!!!

I took a gamble and stopped unloading as I didn't want more troops getting disrupted and it worked Pauk hit my cruisers hard and further damaged Bellau wood.

But VP is taken

Well my aircover was lacking today VP wasnt open and that led to pain for allied cruisers as many are damaged admittedly mostly older ships.

Essex was sunk but that was expected.

To be honest my next move is a series of short hooks up the coast to Malaya before Pauk can recover his disposition

OK so far so good my CAP is now up at VP and troops are unloading rapidly.

Supplies will soon follow.

My next moves are to either

1. Go East against Bankok
2. Right Hook down to Malaya ASAP before Pauk can react.

I have 2,500 AV at Madras awaiting transport including several newly arrived Divs (of which no more than 1,500 can be used as India needs to be garrisoned)

In addition I have a Large Army at Mandalay that should start to make progress.

After my TF's are unloaded and cripples sent to the rear I will review what is available and plan next moves.

In the mean time 2 fresh Divs arrived at the West Coast and I will soon be able to finish off Mili.

After these steps are completed and forces rested I will be able to launch a CentPac offensive in strength.

Given all the activity on Pauks AAR I am sure you are all aware of my last move

80 US and RN Destroyers FT's 18,000 men of 24th 1st USMC and 2nd USMC Divs into Malacca last nigfht.

It was a bold move (perhaps to bold)

Tomorrow 4 Carrier and 1 BB TF move to Bankha where 100 land based P47's and F4U's will augment the carriers

All bombers are ordered to ground attack a TF with the remainder of the three Divs will arrive in 2 days with more supplies my intention is to attack tomorrow. And if unsuccessfull land supplies for a follow up attack in a couple of days.

OK plans they are a foot !!!

What to do next go south my boy go south.

All Carriers will move South to interdict Palembang and vicinity.

LBA from Bankha and VP will support a supply landing at Malacca.

Surface ships will cover convoys attacking Malacca I need to get ships and men ashore fast or I will fail to take the base and that would be fatal.

If I get one base on Malaya then the whole strategy has been worthwhile.

1st and 2nd Marines are about 60% prepped for Malacca (yes this was pre prepared....) 24th is about 4% (Last minute improvisation).

If I can drive accross the north cutting Malaya off from the north then this will be like Salerno a beachead that has to hold until the Cavalry arrives but that may just fight its way out of trouble alone !!!

I still have 2,500 AV in India of which 1,000 - 1,500 is deployable this follow on wave may be used to land on the East Cost of Malaya either at Kuantan or Mersing I will prep forces for both just in case

You're risking your carriers - to gain what?

Your opponent still has enough airfields (and probably enough planes) in range to pass the CAP of your CV TF('s). I think you'll be risking your CV's for nothing. Protect your landings and wait until you've enough land bases.

Its a risk but the chance to catch troop convoys or even to just force Pauk to divert them is worth it I need him on the back foot as much as possible my landing is vulnerable and my troops at VP are moving very slowly I could get cut off very easily I must attack and attack now.

Pauk had manyu chances to retake bankha I want to make him pay for not doing so.

Bankha will be a base for marauding PT Boat and DD Sqns up and down the Malacca Stait.

Pauk could have taken it off me he had 12,000 men to my 500 at one point as I was evaccing but he didnt so I decided to reinforce now he will be regretting giving me a forward base in the malacca Strait

I have available 4 fresh Divs in India over and above garrison requirements these 4 Divs will be used to invade the East Coast of Malaya I think a strike at Kuantan or Mersing in 2 or 3 weeks will cause Pauk major problems.

Don't forget this is the secondary offensive.

Every day that passes my troops get more ready to finish off Mili and then move to the main event in the East.

Yup you guessed it I am going back to the Marianas

I need to pull 3 Divs out of the Marshalls and marry them up with 4 Newly arrived or recovering Divs.

Add that lot together and I will dump 7 Divs onto one of the Marianas probably Tinian in about 6 weeks.

KB has to have lost lots of pilots Malaya is a side show one that I am happy that Pauk has reacted to but it is a sideshow.

I will assault load 200,000 men and land on Tinian backed by a solid battle line and covered by a lot of escort and at least 3 fleet cdarriers

Then you should protect the landing and not cruise around with your carriers. I predict that you'll loose at least one carrier for no real gain. Attacking atolls supported (only) by carriers in the Pacific is one thing, happily cruising in the jaws of multiple land based airfields is quite suicidal!

Yup I agree looks like I lost Wasp and Illustrious - more to follow when I get home I was wrong.

My main concern was to try and disrupt reinforcements my nervousness is even after I reinforce with follow on echelons of all three Divs and supplies I may not have suffivcient power to take Malacca.

Was I perhaps to bold ?

Anyway whatever happens forces have closed the neck of the Malaya peninsula and will shortly be driving south If I can take Bandou (no forts after my para raid) and Songkhia/Alor Star then Pauk still has a major problem.

My carrier losses have been heavy which is bad but a secure foothold in the Malacca streait and at VP is worth a lot

The problem with this game is forts you need to be aggressive and go deep to try and negate japanese fort building.

Lvl 9 forts with a single Bde or NLF or even a full up base force can stop 3 Divisons in assault Cold.

So you take risks and go deep to try and avoid the forts but all the bases that are needed by the allies are well guarded.

Where do the Japanese get all these construction engineers why didnt they do this in real life ?

My FT strategy was cunning but it was so dammed cunning that the troops landed without sufficient supplies (a cock up) so I have only myself to blame if it does not work.

p.s. I dont understand why Pauk waited to take back bankha he had opportunities with a large force landed why did he wait - he has given me an edge and I don't understand why ?

oversight... I guess... I understand why you have to go for bold moves... The game has its problems when it comes to late war : Too many everything, forts, ships, planes, soldiers... Etc... turns the battle for a beachhead on an island in a VErdun like fest...

I just question why every where I go the Japanese have level 9 forts a NG campaign is impossible in game because every jump turns into a quagmire because of Japanese forts.

It just feels like its to easy to build them and they are to powerfull when built.

I know I am sounding like a broken record but for me this forces the allies to bullshit actions like loading up 800 AK's into convoys with 16 Divs and landing them on an atoll in one day as its the only way the mechanics operate its almost like the Japanese have too many engineers or perhaps both side are not having to use engineers for other tasks like maintenance of roads and railway bridge building etc etc allowing the historical level s of engineers to operate in ahistoric manner

I dont know

I cannot blame this for my recent issues though they are all mine

I guess there are severall answers. I think the best one is that forts should have an SPS as well. Atolls would have an SPS of 0, Places like IWO JIMA an SPS of say 5 or 6, and most places should have an SPS of 1-3... So if the japs want to spend all their engineers in building forts in NG, they'll have a hard time getting forts above 4-5 in most places, and would most likely have to stay around 3-4...

But then again wouldn't that make the allied bulldozer unstoppable ???

Tough balance issue.

But the allied bulldozer was more or less unstoppable once it got going !!!

My point is not that forts are unfair far from it but to face them everywhere is tricky it means you are always having to fight high fort levels whichever route you follow.

I dont mind places like Iwo/Saipan being a fortress it had a nice terrain feature to work with I think terrain should count more and forts less.

i.e. at present Iwo is a mountain hex which is I think 3 x Defence, Forts at level 9 add a further x 3 I think so to take Iwo I need to bring AT LEAST 9 x the defenders numbers or if I can cut the supply link 3x the AV (9 x .25)(difficult in the face of suicidal AK captains on 100 ship TF's or 100 1 ship TF's !!!)

Now actually I dont think this is unreasonable.

But to face that 3x multiplier everywhere allied to hostile terrain is tricky.

We play the game we have so this is NOT a complaint about any opponent I have calmed down a lot and things I considered 'broken' before and was ready to throw my toys out of the pram over i.e. HL Kamis I am more willing to reconsider in the case of balance and the fact that game although brilliant is flawed for both sides.

BUT I have huge worries about things like forts and more and more the issues around japanese control of production i.e. I am scared still about Shinden/Reppu in my PZB game if I am right and I have done my maths correctly he will be producing c 800 Reppus a month soon (all Zero factories I assume auto upgrade to reppus in July 45) and�c 200 plus Shindens a month compared to my 144 Hellcats and 100 F4U1D's)

This will be a major issue...

Not a lot to say its been bloody Enterprise and a CVL were hit hard puting any thought of a Malacca operation out of mind

I will need to redeploy for the next fight.

A Jap tank Div arrived at my beachhead 72 hours after landing I think any chance of progress out of Malacca (aka Anzio) will be limited

OK guys well it looks like Enterprise and Princeton will make VP where a level 2 port awaits and 4 AR's

4 Indian Divs are loading up for an attacksomewhere else in Malaya with Slim in charge my intnetion at present is alor star or georgetown.

Indiana was sank yesterday when the relieving Battle Sqn was held up outside of Bankha.

I transferred in my elite Coastal Command 1st Strike Wing today - these are carefully husbanded and protected RAF Sqns with Barracuda, Avenger and Vengeance Bombers.

In total 44 Barracudas, 12 Vengeance and 8 Avenger II's in 5 antishipping strike sqns all single engined and so able to load torps from a level 2 AF These guys have been nurtured since 41 and have awaited a chance to show their stuff well today 4 Sqns were involved in action (1 is at VP ready to rotate in)

Other anti shipping aircraft are orphans from the carriers
