Well mate I REALLY don't know how you can/do play games with an arm tied behind your back. It makes sense (to me at least) to have even rules on those issues - i.e. neither side is allowed training bombings or both are etc.),. Makes no sense to me allowing them to do it and you not. I almost guarantee you will lose between 2-10K points due to it....seriously.

Sorry I was a little bitter and out of order on my earlier post.

It just gets frustrating watching all those ground attack aces being created and knowing that I cannot stop it

I shoot down Japanese plaes even in PDU at 1.5 or 2 to 1 but my pilot quality is now int he 30's and 40's because I wont use that tactic while japanese pilot quality increases.

Ah well I have made enough mistakes of my own that this is not the sole cause for my current predicament but it hasnt helped.

I agree. It doesn't help at all and I can guarantee it will cost you in your game at least 2-3K extra dead pilots....probably more depending on your style of play.

I know you've both played this game in honour though so won't preach any further. Only to say I never allow one side this kind of benefit and not the other

I can just about cope with ground attack  training in a non PDU game - just its not easy but I can manage - against Pauk in a PDU game its very nearly impossible I cannot wear down his pilot quality and my own falls at an incredible rate weird that the allies are more concious of pilots than the Japanese.

I am not looking for pity as Speedy says its my own choice but in the depths of the night  will admit it pisses me off.

Speedy I am in catch 22 I WILL NOT do it myself

But Pauk has done it since day one and I refuse to raise it with him we just simply disagree on this point you cannot train fighter pilots in dogfighting by performing strafing runs on rice paddies - Japanese have trained more Saburo Sakais than the USN had trained pilots in the whole war where I am getting a series of Elmar Fudds !!!!

Agreed. I won't comment on curent games in this post since you'ved all played to your rules. All I will say is please consider playing with EQUAL rules in your future games. Without them one sdie or the other is fighting with a hand tied behind their back which is fruitless (IMO) in these games......

Yup I agree Speedy.

I am extremely busy so turns have slowed down.

Average pilot xp in my carriers is now 40 with most groups having large numbers of 30 ish xp pilots - I am ordering a 3 - 4 day attack on the Marcus islands to try an build xp all caariers are participating - this is not the same in my view as training camps but whether it is or not I feel I have no choice.

OK guys sorry about the lack of updates I am sure you can all guess why !!!

OK whats been happening ?

Well the truth is not much.....

I have been reorganising

At Pearl or en route the newly forming 10th US Army

1st Aus Corps (4 Divs plus an attached Cav Bde and Ard Regt)
24th US Corps (3 Divs plus 2 Ard regts)
1st US Corps (3 Divs, PI RCT plus 2 Ard Regts)

passing Fiji en route to Pearl what will become US 11th Corps
2 x PI Divs
1 x US Div
1 x Aus Div
1 x Dutch Regt

Yup scraping th ebottom of the barrel now....

eta for this force to be ready to load 30 days.

Also en route naval reinforcements from Easter Fleet

1 CVL
2 CVE (RN)
7 Battleships (5 RN)
12 Heavy Cruisers (4 RN)
12 Light Cruisers (8 RN)
4 CLAA (3 RN)
and about 20 Destroyers

En route to Pearl new build or repaired

Estimated to be repaired or released by builders and ready in time for the offensive

This fleet will be used to assault land 10th Army probably onto Tinian to support 8th Army whose 4 Corps are marroned there (16 Divs and 22 Ard regts)

8th Army cannot take the base because Pauk can rebuild forts faster than I can knock em down without air superiority but he has left 3000 AV of troops on the island which if I can eliminate them will leave him short of garrison troops especially given wehats about to happen in the west......

In the West well Pauk only has to remain ignorant of my plans for about 2 more days and he will I hope get his front blown open.

Over the last two months I have bee resting troops in Calcutta fromt he Mandalay front rebuilding them ready for my next move.

At Mandalay Lt General Auchinlecks Malaya Army has on the front line III Indian Corps with 2,000 AV in th erear assmebled in great secrecy is a rested force of the Burma Corps another 2,000 AV all rested and prepped for Mandalay.

III Corps attacked mandalay a few weeks ago in a probing attack to test how strong it was and they almost achieved a 1 to 1 since then I have accelerated my air to mud campaign

When the Burma Corps comes into the line I should finally have th estrength to blow a hole in the Mandalay front.

At the same time plans are afoot in Southern Malaya where we have been at standoff for a while

US 6th Army is trapped in a pocket with Indian 15th Corps holding the northen end with 2,000 AV and US 14th Corps the southern witrh 2,000 AV neither force is strong enough to make progress.

British 14th Army holds the VP front with Indian 33rd Corps with another 1,500 AV held up on this fornt.

As I said earlier too many Corps with to little force all spread out and being defeated in detail..

In addition there is an improvised Corps in Sumatra with another 1,000 AV.

Well over the last few months I have been secretly and slowly reconcentrated and I am almost ready

The imporvised Corps was disbanded and its 3 Divisions trasnferred to VP
7th Indian, 25th Indian and as much of the armour as I could scrape up has been lifted out of the pocket taking 1,200 AV out of the Bandou pocket.

I now have a rested supplied reserve at VP of 2,200 directly under 14th Army control.

The plan is that in 3 days

2 plans will kick off.

Operation Talisker the assault on Mandalay will begin Burma Corps will move into the line and General Auchinlecks force will try to bounce Pauk out of Mandalay getting a retreat is vital.

Operation 'EVEN SCOTSMEN CAN LEARN FROM THIER MISTAKES AND CONCENTRATE'  will kick off in the south when Slim tries to rejoin 6th US Army via a rail link if this is achieved the force holding 15th Indian Amry will be cut off and 15th Corps will immediately go on the offensive to break them.

Its a complicated plan but I needed to reconcentrate as I had allowed myself to get dispersed. One great mass of Divisions is not pretty but it sure is dammed effective....

Anyone who is unhappy with pauk training his pilots should take Japs himself against Pauk. If any of you could survive 12 months (of course without strafing training because its so uncivilized) then perhaps you have a right to raise this problem. Shame on those who already enjoy HUGE allies advantage and still whining about other do something only to avoid meaningless Turkey shoot. Beat Pauk as Japs side and you could abuse him as well as u like.

Trollelite - I have not abused Pauk on this issue I accept he does it as do all my other opponenets I dont like it but I accept that hwe generates hordes of elite pilots and that I cannot compete with that. If you dont think this type of training when tied to PDU gives the Japanese a huge advantage that more than upsets the balance of the game then that is your opinion I dont agree but that is my right.

Having said all that after re reading your post I have decided  I dont really care what you think as I do not like the inference that I am 'abusing pauk' to put it quite simply - IGNORE is now on bye bye !!!!

The problem isn't really the training system. The key is the replacement rate of planes on which the allies are stuck, while the japs can overproduce them...so Japs can fight for attrition while the allies cannot. That's the main problem imho

But Andy, let me ask you....you aren't training your crews with attack missions on isolated bases???? If that's so i understand you're saying the method it's not fair! If he does it, i think you should simply do the same...

I dont use ground attack training I would find using isolated Japanese bases to produce a horde of Thatches to be wrong.

As Speedy points out its not a pauk issue its a me being stubborn issue - I just simply wont do it I believe it breaks the game engine to have than many highly experienced pilots about - others disagree.

We all play the game differently and thats fine I am not having a go at pauk.

Mandalay finally falls but its a hollow victory Pauk evacced the city just in time and is retreating in an orderly fashion to the south.

Not sure where he will stand next.

If it was me not knowing abouththe southern offensive I would stand at Moulmien (Rangoon is a trap)

Lt General Auchinleck ordered both his Corps to pursue without much hope of catching the retreating japanese forces until they choose to stad and fight.

In the South Slims preparations continue the Southern offensive hits home in 3 days if it works the whole Burmese coastal axis of defence is a trap for Pauk if it works in full and I can get spearheads into Bankok - even if they dont take the base - then Pauk has a problem because the whole of Burmese supply is cut off.

OK my army is over the river south of Mandalay and is moving South - Rangoon or bust !!!!

I have diverted Armoured Bdes to capture Pagan and taung Ghi as they are fast enough to catch nme back up and th eadditional airfields are going to be needed.

Eastern Fleet has sortied and will begin round the clock bombardments of rangoon covered by P38's and Saratoga Task Group.

I dont expect pauk to do much but pull back to Moulmien or Rahang.

Ideally I would like him to try and stand at rangoon or the hex next to it (where the programme will force him to retreat to rangoon)

But he aint that daft.

An additional Corps worth of troops 81st, 82nd and 19th Indian Div arreive very soon these fresh troops and the force already committed are enough to crush the Burma Area Army.

If the southern offensive is successfull I will cut all of Pauks supply routes into Burma at which point its just a matter of destroying supplies and finishing off the japanese forces in situ !!!

Dont like whats happening on Tinian his unit count is risning steadily I may rethink using 10th US Army and hit Marcus or another island instread (I still have time to change target and prep for units)

Pauk was saying that allied air power is overstated because a few days ago a Tank Regt on open terrain moving by railway lost 25% of its strength in a single day  (i.e. 20 ish tanks) to 60+ allied bombers and FB's that have been providing CAS to Auks fordces for 6 months in a situation where the allies have total air superiority - my problem with th eresult is that it was too low I was ready to sack my Sqn commanders for ONLY destroying 20 tanks that regt should be a 100% writeoff !!!!

Pauk and I agree to disagree on this point !!!

Heh, its funny that he sees a problem with 60 fighter-bombers taking out 20 tanks on a road-march, but he doesnt see a problem with a movement bug that kills your CVs or the ridiculous "I'll order my 30 green fighter pilots to strafe an empty jungle base for five weeks and then I'll have 30 seasoned veteran aces"-routine.

Pauks been great no complaints from me we all have things we find irritating in the game I know for a fact he thinks my stacking limits for AF's are way over the top - there are always things players do that rub the other player up the wriong way.

As long as you respect your opponent you find a way through as we have.

Make no mistake pauk has played an impeccable game taking bugs and luck out of it its hard to think of a major mistake he has made. Getting back to a draw for me is what this game is all about now.

It was me who got impatient and stupid not him !!!

I find the ground attack stuff funny because I think of what the Wehrmacht was facing and the losses they took and to lose 20 tanks on a rail march of an entire amry to the USAAF and RAF at this point of the war would be mana from heavan to them but hey we all have our perspectives.

yeah, first thing I thought of was Panzer Lehr being wiped out by fighter bombers... Air2ground attacks are underrated in WITP, that´s for sure. But think about the effect it would have if you could really knock out whole divisions in one or two days with air attacks only. Wouldn´t be good for the game IMO.

Your both doing a good job and I think your game must be lots of fun! Keep it up!

OK well a lot has happened

In the North Pauks timely exit has allowed my forces to advance rapidly he has ran quicker and is sensibly abandoning Rangoon.

In the south 4 shock attacks in turn have achieved 2:1 odds but cannot break his resistance I have thrown the kitchen sink in for one more attmpt to break through but in all honesty without much hope forest terrain plus his inherant fort levels are not breaking his troops

1st tank Div was routed as have been rseveral other units but the Inf remain dug in stopping Slim Breaking through - VERY frustrating.

Coming up from Bandou 15th Indian Corps is now driving on the road rail junction pursuing Japanese troops gettiong out of the culdesac.

Most of the Bdes are now combat inoperable in 14th Army you need Divs for properly constituted atttacks to sustain them !!!

One more try to break through and then we will leave it to Christiansons Corps driving north to break the deadlock

Not a lot to say a couple of Bdes are moving on Rangoon the bulk of Auks army is moving on Moulmien and Raehang.

In the south Christianson has managed to cut the japanese supply line at the Tavoy junctio I would expect a witrhdrawal from in front of VP soon.

Slim is begining the slow refit process for his Bdes only his Divs will move in pursuit of the retreating Japanese forces.

With Rangoon in my hands my refitting of tired units becomes a LOT easier and the focus of my rest camps can move forward.

and I get 3 fresh Divs inside of 40 days.

So after mopulmein and perhaps Tavoy are mione there will be a short pause but my next move will not be long delayed...

New ships and men constasntluy arrive at Pearl and other harbours.

I will be going for it very soon....

OK my thoughts on the whole Burma front

Pauk has pulled a masterfull defence and delayed me by 9 months he will now pull back and defend SEA and probably Malaya and unless I commit the entire army to a long grinding campaign my ability to move rapidly is limited.

Not a lot I can do about that and we have all seen that frontal attacks don't really work that well.

So I have a new plan....

Rangoon will allow my army to rest and be supplied for future operations and Pauk has no choice but to keep KB focussed on Central Pacific.

I am going to pull an Army out of the line as soon as I can I want to concentrate an Indian Corps heavy on armoured forces and a US Corps.

This new combined arms force after its rested will be used for amphib operations in SEA

Well my troops crossed the river at Moulmien and suffered badly 10,000 casualties.

Ouch

I have 300,000 supply unloading at Rangoon so all being well I should break through quickly

Pauk has me confused Moulmien and Tavoy are undefendable I have cut both ends of the railway so they will be struggling after a few weeks and I am in no rush in this theatre the next blow hits in the East anyway.

I will take Moulmien and perhaps Tavoy and then my next plan comes into operation !!!

OK well Pauk has attacked at Rahaeng trying to get in behind me and has forced the flanking force back which is annoying I have more forces enroute so I am not especially worried but they will take a few days to get into position

Not a lot to say my air force is pounding Moulmien and Tavoy as a 3 BB TF Based at Rangoon.

I have about 8 air fields in range and each of them is ordered to round the clock bombardment.

I will leave it three or four more days then begin the process to take Moulmien

I thought I would post the combat replay just for the hell of it this time as you can see Eastern Fleet is hitting Moulmien hard he cannot survive much more of this I have a lot of bombers in range....7
