The evacuation of Northern Aus is almost complete only the Darwin CD unit has been caught.

I am moving a TF down form India to allow me to untie my USCV's from Sydney

I have decided to bring down Formidable/ Indomitable/ Illustrious/Hermes and Warspite plus screen.

The presence of the RN in Australian Waters will free up my US CV's In another month or so my RN CV's start to get Seafires although the replacement rate is small so it will take time to upgrade them all

The only dangerous moment will be the sneak past Perth but I have sufficient intel to be happpy that the IJN CV's are no longer in Australian waters

Pauk is really following up with the attack on the aleutians I just dont care. I am planning on more or less ignoring it until I have forces available to eject them.

Hornet sailed from Suva with the first RAAF Spitfire Sqn embarked for Tarawa.

Give me 2 weeks and next time Pauk comes sweeping he is going to get a nasty shock as for the 1st time proper front line allied aircraft contest the air !!!!!

My RN CV TF is now beyond Perth heading for Sydney where it will start to re equip with some Seafires. (Indom gets 24, Ill and Form get 18 and Hermes gets 11) so 71 1st class fighters !!!!!

Now the plan is to go CV hunting in 6 weeks with multiple CVTF's I am thinking 2 RN and 2 US CVTF's operating in concert Wildcats on about 40% CAP/ Seafires on 90%

Lets see how the mighty KB likes going up against some decent fighters with 80xp pilots !!!!!

Pauk hits north China with Paras and takes one of the north Chinese bases that I was in process of reinfircing as I had stripped the base to retake Sian

I then attack and kick him out of Sian

With Perth in enemy hands I am realising just how exposed Sydney is to a carrier raid.

I dont like shifting my Carriers away but it is very exposed. I am going to leave a strong SCTF at Sydney but I think ill move my main fleet base to either New Cal or Suva either of which has more SEARCH radius coverage.

OK its a quiet turn that once again focuses attention on China.

I am trying to reinforce Tarawa and Apanama and have forces on route as well as Suva. New Cal and Palmyra.

If he is going to strike I think it will be New Cal or Suva or possible palmyra as I just dont see Pauk doing the obvious and hitting Tarawa I have 2 Divs lvl 5 forts and mines at Tarawa .

I am pretty sure that most of KB will be in dry dock so I am going to take the opportunity to try and put him on the back foot a little so i have a cunning plan that I am working on.

I have 3 US and 3 RN CV's at present heading to New Cal/Suva from Sydney I am going to divert 1 TF for a little annoy Pauk mission

Now I dont want to give the Seafire (which have now equipped Illustrious air gp) away yet so I will be carefull.

(In two more months all 3 RN CV's will have Seafires and I will be a lot more willing to go toe to toe with KB)

At present my intentions are to have Wasp and Hornet (Lexington is still acting as fast air transport) at Pearl/ Palmyra/ Johnstone Island primarily to cover West Coast Route to Pearl as I am paranoid about deep strikes they will be reinforced by my new US BB's and repaired ones from the West Coast.

I have a strong surface action TF at Sydney with several CL's DD's and 1 x R class and an old US BB.

I have 6 CV's/ 1 CVL and the bulk of my modern Cruisers and DD's heading for New Cal plus POW in close escort.

At Suva I have 4 old BB's and numerous DD's

Overall I am set if anything I feel that I am struggling to provide sufficient air cover for my numerous fleet anchorages and this does worry me

Lots going on I sent my CV's a little north and got spotted its not worth probing further north I could have LBA on three sides and CV about so I am withdrawing.

Actually I have decided on a new fleet organisation I will outline my deployments below

Sydney RN's Eastern Fleet

HMS Prince of Wales (13 sys), HMS Revenge
7 Light Cruisers and 1 CLAA primarily RN RAN and Dutch
30 DD's mixed ABDA primarily

US Pacific Fleet/RN Pacific Fleet

Suva - or en route

USS Yorktown/ USS Saratoga/ USS Enterprise/ HMS Indomitable/ HMS Formidable/ HMS Illustrious
HMS Repulse/USS Colorado/ HMS Warspite/ USS Arizona/ USS California/ USS New Mexico/ USS Missisippi
15 x CA's/ 9 x CL's/ 3 x CLAA's
28 x DD's

New Cal
HMS Hermes
4 x CL
22 x DD (although I will be shifting some more DD's and Hermes to Suva soon.

Pearl Harbour (or West Coast) - US 5th Fleet
USS Hornet/ USS Lexington/ USS Wasp (eta 6 days)
USS North Carolina/ USS Idaho/ USS West Virginia
3 x CA/ 3 x CL/ 2 x CLAA
20 x DD

It is my intention to send 5th Fleets Carriers to Suva in the next 30 days and switch them with the Pac Fleet ones who are due for an upgrade and have some sys damage.

I am also planning on SODAK/ Washington (due on 60 days) and NDAK replacing 3 of the old US BB's at Suva allowing them to rotate to the West Coast.

When POW is repaired I will transfer her to Suva to also replace the 4th of my old US battlewagons.

I can only really secure one anchorage and I have chosen Suva its a little behind the line but gives me at least one turns warning.

Any thoughts ?

Andy

Mixed new this turn.

Properly rested Spits got in amognst the zeroes today at Tarawa.

I lost heavily 40 ish but so did Pauk losing 23 zeroes.

4 Spits for 23 zeroes is a trade i am happy to make (my other losses were P40's F4F's and P36/39's all basically obsolete)

It was the Spits that did the damage.

I continue to consolidate the new Joint Pacific Fleet at Suva.

In China he has cut off a large army in Homan and I have decided to stand still and fight it out even though I know I will lose.

I shouldnt have shck attacked a few turns back but my choices were limited.

Interesting he is moving CV TF's towards the gap between Tarawa and Nanomea atoll

My Pacific fleet has not yet full conentrated and I will not go in piecemeal so I will wait to see what he does I have limited forces at risk at the moment.

In air battles over Tarwa he loses another 20 zeroes but shoots down 40 of mine attritional losses I doubt he can sustain for long.

looks like without starving out - for what there is almost no time - you will not be dislodged from position unless whole southern army will be engaged what for obvious reasons is impossible - congrats Andy - very good job

Thats the thing sneer if you are going to forward deploy you need to assume 5 IJA Divs will turn up in a single phase and be able to fight em off.

This started as an FT annoy Pauk raid when I saw he was hitting Aus its worked out beyond my wildest dreams but I am nervous about places like Palmyra/ Johnston Island and Canton that are all vulnerable.

I am one line of bases ahead of where I should be.

with enemy at kwajelain gates he will not go for palmyra/johnson - either he strikes hard and try to retake or switch for defensive
even if he take Johnson or palmyra or both - it is not a big problem - he will not blocade you - only cut shortest route- and will be not able to cover so extended position
canton isl is only important point - but true fear is only when he is able ta take 3 of them - low probability

Quiet turn my subs spotted some transports heading to Marianas.

Combined Pacific Fleet is now 7 CV's, 1CVL, 7 BB's, 1 BC, over 30 Cruisers and 75 DD's ;P

The Wasp TF is en route with 72 Wildcats for port protection on board.

When she arrives Saratoga will offload her strike group and allow Saratoga to sail to Pearl for repair and refit.

It seems a little anti climactic following the events in my other AAR :)
