I think you can do it easily - similar to UK blenheim at the beginning of war
will check it at first possibility
in one of my games - long ago I saw 3 times 36 Ki45 working nice on unescorted bombers

What about J2M Jack? They seem very good as interceptors (gun value 16, climb rate 3100). They arrive in 3/43; with a bit of luck you can have them at the beginning of '43...

Bye

You get first the night version of Ki-45a i think...
I'm near to get it in my major pbem ( the one with MC), but we've already agreed on a house rule about night bombing....i do not think you can use it in daylight...am i right?

In daylight you can use them only on LRCAP. No escort.

I never played the Japanese long enough to get the Jack's, but if they are truly good interceptors maybe they are useful against 4e's, in particular if you can make them in mass. I'm going to look into that plane further.

4 20mm cannons not bad
Ki 45 has 1 37mm and depending on versio up to 2 20mm
durability is a bit lower
equal to me

Ki-45 Nick are also good as interceptors, but you'll have only a few squadrons and you can't upgrade other fighters to to them. Jack are Navy fighters, if you play with Japanese production you can upgrade some A6M2/A6M3 and have a decent fighter/interceptor in 43.
I am not an expert, but I think that the Zero will be quite useless in 43. Jack could fill the gap for IJN - assuming you play with PDU on, of course.

Bye
