PZB is a good player but I am only able to act this way because of the actions taken by previous Allied C in C's in holding onto Tarawa and the Solomons. Not to mention the Logistics position I inherited from Nomad. Nomad was right on the edge of doing exactly if not more than I achieved.

It is all about logistics I now have both SOPAC and SWPAC in admin hiatus as I reorganise. I want to keep the advance up but Rabaul has required a break.

9th Aus Div is just simply not recovering at Rabaul. I have had to take the decision to rotate them and probably 1st US Cav back to Brisbane placing a furth er burden on my shipping.

I have decided to withdraw from Kavieng which will place further demands on my shipping

A couple more turns pass with little beyond reorg happening.

HMS Formidable finally started to repair was getting worried she was glitched.

A couple of highpoints I tried an attack at Kavieng it got repulsed as did the one at Maloep.

Decision made I have ordered the evac of Kavieng it just isnt worth it I will pull out 3rd USMC over the next few days to use as spearhead on my next op.

Now Kwal Kwal Kwal. I am not sure if I shouldnt just go straight for Entiwok.

Kwal doesnt really get me that much.

He has 50 - 60k troops and levle 9 forts.

Could I take it I think so is it worth taking not sure I am going to reconsider in next couple of days.

Andy......my only thought with Kwaj is this: Look at Maloelap + Kavieng. There are fewer troops there and they haven't fallen as yet....not saying it isn't worth it but expect a helluva fight of you go for it!

Aye a couple of more turns pass with more of the same SODAK hit a mine but caused minimal damage.

My Admin pause continues I am pounding NG and sending some troops to try and sieze Dagua and a dot base north of the admiralties.

More or less just positioning at moment.

Kavieng had 90k troops but it has declined I take your point though.

I messed up on Maloep using AK's to transport assault troops.

Overall I am not sure where to go next.

My gut instinct is telling me try to sieze a base in range of the Marianas and go all out for Guam with 6 or 7 Divs invcluding 1 3 and 4 USMC.

An all out invasion covered by my refurbished CV's etc etc. If I am going to have to face that kind of pain and have a long fight then make it somewhere worthwhile.

If I had nailed a few more CV's I would be strongly tempted to try it. As it is I think for the rest of 43 its going to be about repairing ships moving cargo and getting ready (4 BB's in West Coast Yards 3 in 20's sys damage) If I get 3 back add to the 5 I have now my surface assets become not to bad.

Apart from splitting his attention Kwal doesnt get me that much.

Entiwok is almost more valuable if I keep the marshalls offensive going.

Really don't be too greedy Andy, even with all your assets ready in 3 months, are you sure you can keep the long way from the Marshalls to Guam safe? Or does the invasion force supposed to be self-sufficient?
But in a way like another, it looks like a very bolt move to me, I'd be sad about seeing this game ending in a bloodbath too early

Andy, one word, NO

Look at what you will need to do. You will have to suppress all 4 airfields, bombard( air and naval ) your landing island enough to not get killed on the landing, plus you will probably have to fight the KB. All this without a Midway or having the British pounding on him from the West. I think it is a recipee for disaster. You will have no LBA support, and LBA is the one large asset you have at this time. Your CV force is pretty much an even match or slightly stronger now, but you will need to have it much stronger than his before you do something like a Marianas invasion. You will also need a lot of those CVEs with combat air units on them for supporting the invasion. They can do a lot of airial bombing and LRCAP over the beaches, giving your CVs/CVLs the ability to deal with other threats.

One thing about it is, if you fail, the game is probably lost for sure. I think you can still win, even at this point, but being repulsed from a major invasion will cost too much. Just look at a real life timeline, Tarawa 11/43, Kwajalien 2/44, Saipan 7/44. I don't see you having enough until around 9/44 to make an amphib assault having no LBA support.

BTW, Chaz, I am sorry about the earlier comment, I was a bit hurried at the time. It didn't come out quite right, I typed some things and then erased some and retyped and somehow got a coherent sentence that was not really what I wanted to say.

Andy, it looks like I am back on line again, still testing to see what happens, might have to cut a tree down. It is amazing what you can do with a Pringles can, some washers, threaded rod, etc. Total out of pocket costs, about 3.00USD for a high gain antenna. And Andy, thank you for the kind words. Keep up the good fight.

Interesting thoughts. The problem is its either this and it will take me until early 44 to do it. or a pit fight through the PI. I view the PI as more dangerous with all its AF's in range and Kamis.

I am going to have to take a chance somewhere. Part of the objective of my attack up NG will be to draw out and defeat KB. Now what other choices do I have ?

Phase 1 I dont think is wrong even phase 2 in SWPAC. Its phase 3 that I acknowledge is very risky but I I am going to have to take a risk somewhere.

B25J's can suppress Guam with longer range bombers helping keep Truk and Ulithi shut.

I agree my BB's and CV's will need to keep Siapan and Tinian shut but its either shut those two or try and shut 15 in the PI.

I havent made a final decision about phase 3 as its still to far away and nothing in phase 1 or 2 compromisesmy final objective but I need to be making a decision in next 60 days or so.

I am also considering an attack from ABDA aimed at Singapore but I dont see what it gets me.
An attack on Northern Japan in lat 44 but thats even higher risk

I have to admit its the PI that scares me PZB has more land units than me and with all those bases and KB intact I dont see how I can win that one.

If your connection is up to it Nomad I will send you a copy of the last turn to give me some analyisis and thoughts ?

I do seem to be up and runing right now. I was only talking about the attack on the Marianas, but I am not sure about your time frame. It just seemed to be scheduled too early, maybe I am wrong about that. Like I said above, you will need a lot of seaborne forces to make an amphib assault with no LBA support. Even more than in real life since there are no Brits helping and the Allies have lost more and Japan has lost less. But you are right about one thing, you need to take all of NG. That makes PzBs job harder becasue you can go in many different directions from there. You might want to see how much he has at Ulithi, it is the only SPS 2 base in range of the Marianas, might be usefull to fly some B-17s escorted with P-38Js against Guam. Maybe Guam should/could be the first target in the Marianas? Or Pagan, it might not be defended as well and it has an SPS of 2(?). Using 5 or 6 SeaBees it will build to a size 5 in a couple of weeks. I expect Tinian and Saipan to be well defended and probably Guam also.

Too bad about the Kai operation, I think it was very important and I might have put more into it. But, it is done now. Successfully taking the rest of NG will give you a number of air bases in range to support advances in that area in 1944, maybe you will be able to bypass Kai and go directly to Ambonia? Then Kai will be an easy target and on to Timor. I do think you need to show the capability to attack on the Java, Sumatra, India line. That will make PzB keep forces in that area to protect it.

I am not sure that the PI should bother you. Yes he has a number of land units, both LCUs and air, but you have massive land bases bomber forces and good long range fighters. There are a number of Islands with SPSs of 1 or more and only one base hex. Use these to isolate the larger islands. From an airbase of size 4 you can fly B-25Js with P-38s and suppress other bases in the area. It will be a tough fight but use you biggest asset, LBA to power your way through. You are into 11/43 so you should be getting a number of good CVs in the next 3 or 4 months. You will be able to support invasions within you own LBA range with no problem.

Several turns have passed with little action.

I tried to get sneaky and send part of a Bde against Dagua and Aitape he intercepted so it ended after I lost 1 Transport.

Apart form that I am in reorg mode still. I have sent a Bn after Talasea and siezed the small dot base above the admiralties.

Mere positioning.

I will be able to re concentrate my assault shipping after the current set of cargos are delivered.

Re Kai Island I had to much going on and was overcommitted when I launched it. With hindsight I should have waited.

Managed to land at Talasea and Aitape lets see if I can take the base.

One issue is that 4th Aus Div has dissapeared at Rabaul.

I have a fragment unloading at moment so lets see whether Div re appears

You might send the save to Frag and ask him to repair the file. I suppose he might be able to do this.

Na its ok we are just redoing a couple of turns although neither of us likes doing that.

I am still trying to decide whether the plan outlined above is workable.

I need my carriers back in the SOPAC/ SWPAC theatre but my carriers are about 4 or 5 sys damage with 2 at 9 sys so I am going to wait for a few more days.

I get another Essex class CV in about 8 days which will begin to return flexibility.

I would like to detach Wasp and a pair of CVL's backed by Formidable on a raid but thats a month away at least.

My 1st Chinese Sqn got P40N's today I would like to keep them back for a bit until I can jump one of his training raids with 2 or 3 Sqns of 40N's just to keep him honest !!!!

I have 3 RAF Sqns in China of which 2 have aircraft (Blenheims and Liberators) the Blenheims upgrade to Mossies which probably just about have the range to get to friendly territory so I am looking at evaccing them or using them to strike at HK repair yard just to annoy PZB.

I hate having to redo turns. John and I did one when a Aviation Regiment disappeared at Gasmata.

But, you are getting to the good time, early 1944 you should be able to start really putting the hurt on John. When you can put up about 300 - 450 F6Fs on CAP over your CVs and hit his shipping and/or ports/airfields and shoot down large numbers of his aircraft, life will be good.

Aye I am looking forward to that phase of the war !!!!

I need to watch though I dont know how good the George or Frank are going to be.

Despite all my protestations about land units previously I think I am going to have to be a little carefull.

PZB has 30k + troops probably behind lvl 9 forts at both Wewak and the base below it.

Basically all of the historical USN targets are very well defended by large forts and troops concentrations.

I cannot afford to many fights against these well defended objectives without blunting my assault force so I will need to pick my fights carefully.

About Marianas: You probably can take Pagan first. Air power stationed there can cut rest of islands out of supply and provide air support for future invasions. Saipan is probably best-defended base there and might be wise to get it isolated first. Maybe in order: Pagan->Tinian->Guam/Saipan

Hmmm possibly I will look at it...

I have a really sneaky snidey little plan.

I am a great fan of harassing raids and as my subs appear to be useless at the moment I think I will gather a large force of them and transport a few 'Commandos' to check out the coastal bases in India landings at Karachi/ Bombay/ Madras/ Trivandrum/ DH.

I am not trying to capture bases merely to confirm that he hasnt stripped the country of troops.

This operation has been christened operation 'Sneaky'

(If I time it so that I have Wasp raiding Palembang at the same time he could read all sorts of crap into what is basically going to be a raid to harass him !!!!)

I dont want hime to feel safe in India or else he could strip the country bare which my limited ground forces could not cope with.

OK day of decision has been reached Kwal or not to Kwal.

He has 50,000 men and lvl 9 forts there.

I have decided that despite the cost Kwal will be taken. It was a hard decision that could attrit my land forces but I dont think either choice is good.

I have 6 Division and 4 Armoured Regts 100% prepped for the invasion and will spend the next 10 days assembling and loading assault transport.

I hope to be able to load 3 Divisions and 2 Armoured Regts in each wave supported by a Corps HQ and a Landing Force also prepped for Kwal.

This is going to be bloody but I have decided that given the way PZB digs in I have a choice I can either faff about at the edges or go for it. And if I am to go for it I would rather attack a target in LBA range.

I will support the invasion with 5 BB's and every Carrier and Cruiiser I can scrape up I will probably pull a couple of 10 sys BB's from the West Coast to enhance my bombardment force

After both waves are landed and the fort reduction has began I will transfer my assault shipping to SWPAC for further landing in NG and possible actions to secure bases in SWPAC/SOPAC area.

Oh my, please don´t use this name for the base or even operation!
"Kwal", pronounced German, sounds like "Qual" which means "extensiv pain".
You should give that operation a nice positive name as "sun downer" or something.
