Wlll the top box landed at Wasile

The bottom unloaded 60 miles away.

A 100% prepped battle ready combat Corps is now screwed. PZB will air tran in massive forces and there is sweet FA I can to stop this turning into anopther mess like Noemfoor

Sounds like you really need to shut down Wasile as an airfield then. Can you rlBA do that?

Yup I have slept on what I am going to do.

The following precautions are being taken.

1. Several PT Boat Flotillas will move in as well several DD Sqns to provide surface combat support
2. Replacement Hellcat Gps are now in range and will switch with currently depleted ones.
3. B24J's from Aitape and Sarmi will close that AF whatever the cost
4. I will amalgamte 1 of my carrier TF's I will lose some co ordination BUT more escorts per TF if a raid gets through
5. My Fleet will stay on station until the Corps is moved.

The biggest threat I face is the surface 1 I genuinelly believe that PZB does not have that many pilots left he has to know that I have other major ops planned and it does take some time to train pilots and I have destroyed over 2,000 aircraft in the last week even the Japanese cannot retain a strategic reserve for next ops and afford to waste another 1,000+

Andy

OK Erstad perhaps it was a bug so be it we will go on (hey its all fun !!!)

Thunderchild !!!

We are currently at 4th April I would like to be landing on Tinian on 1st june but thats going to be very very tight.

Assuming a week - 10 days to fix this mess at Wasile

Another week to move to Darwin and pick up the ABDA Corps

Then 5 days steaming to Namlea and Amboina

3 - 5 days to assault and capture I should be in a position to start transferring assets in early May.

My Carriers will need a couple of weeks of R&R (SODAK,WASHINGTON, ALABAMA, RICHELIEU and NORTH CAROLINA are all heading for Pearl now)

I think the date may end getting pushed back a few weeks but lets see what haapens

OK I am using barges primarily to bring in the troops I am really keen to take this base early

The AF is closed so no more reinforcements it is also not repairing at all perhaps he is low on supplies if I can gtet some of my shock troops into the right hex turn I may try an early attack I do not want my carriers out here for long I need them elsewhere.

2 more Essex class arrive in 30 days and Saratoga and one other Essex are at Pearl refitting at present.

5 BB's and about 50 DD's are already either at Pearl or Kwaj or on the way there but most of my cruiser force is at present at Wasile so even if I win I dont really want a major fight as I need those Cruisers intact

OK yesterday and today I went all out to knock out the base

I am having issues keeping my PT boats on station despite do not retire orders they keep bugging out as they are low on fuel they go slow !!!!

All quiet on the PZB front and so I am taking a risk Idaho and several CA's are being stripped from their carrier and escort duties and placed in a new 2nd Bombardment TF.

Add that to a 100% effort strike from all carrier air and we will see what happens 3rd Marines are ashore in the base hex and are in good shape as is most of 3rd NZ so I will try a speculative shock attack.

My carrier air and LBA has been pasting them for a while and I need to know what level of forts I am facing.

my CV's are getting low on ops and my pilots are walking zombies thank god PZB wasted his carriers trying to stop the Aitape invasion.

Would I have contemplated this kind of risk with his carriers still out there as well ?

Probably not but if I had this could have been very nasty

A shock attack is risky but it increases my chance of avoiding a nasty 0:1 result especially with 2 BB TF's assisiting with close support as well as 6 CV worth of bombers and 150+ B24J's pounding the AF

Ps I just added it up in last 8 days the Japanese have lost 1,732 (a lot of Oscars !!!) aircraft with only a few on the ground in the same period the allies lost 341 (mostly Hellcats and P38J's)

I would like the point out that the Hellcat pool is now below 100 frames so even the allies cannot sustain this level of losses for long especially with the Marianas to come !!!

OK some good luck !!.

My fleet appears to have scattered slightly because of fuel status which is annoying in itself as they will not always obey orders.

I guess the lesson here is you must win the airfight before unloading if you attempt to unload under an air fight something will get through or TF's will get disorganised.

PZB sent in a CA led TF to the hex where my Barges picked up the troops yesterday in an act of lunacy/bravery whatever else he is the man is bold !!!!!

On this occasion his boldness paid off.

All my bombers were on ground attack so he got away scot free albeit without sinking much but the attitude is enough to make me think.

My search and subs are picking up at least one probably 2 BB led TF 10 hexes away from Wasile. I have no choice given his willingness to take these risks but to withdraw and take stock as i dont want these carriers or cruisers damaged before Thunderchild.

Accordingly all TF's are moving away to the SW and several sqns placed on naval attack (the bulk are staying on ground attack as my marines try to bounce the base with a second schock attack the first achieved 1:1 and knocked the forts down from 5 to 4 so the base should fall reasonably quickly even with my emaciated forces)

Unfortunately for him all that was there were about 15 out of suel PT Boats

He sank several for no loss (Note PT Boats will not stay on station no matter what you do if they are low on fuel)

At present resting at Pearl I have 2 CV's, 1 CVL, 8 BB's with 2 more Essex class CV's due in a few weeks.

Well its done Wasile is now allied territory. My TF's are moving off sowest towards Darwin to pick up the ABDA Corps for its assault on Amboina and Namlea

These are the last of the Hydra offensives after this next operation I will close down Operation Hydra and move onto the next operation...even the allies cannot maintain the operational tempo I have been operating under for long.

The only reason I have been able to operate this quickly has been the prior planning and the months I spent stockpiling and prepping while CENTPAC took out the Marshalls.

My objectives for this offensive have already been met which is good it means that if anything goes wrong I can just shut it down.

I have an advanced base astride his LOC and a threat to the PI capable of being developed to lvl 6 AF (currently lvl 1) I have trapped large numbers of ground forces in cut off bases and attrited his trained pilot pool

Noemfoor is an issue but I will now turn the full might of the Allied light and medium bomber force and the FB force against this objective. (Sarmi is now lvl 5 AF)

It will take time but it will fall eventually.

Given the position now in Northern NG I cannot see PZB being able to strip forces out of the PI he has to guard every base.

He has seen evidence that when I land it is in strength and with full prepped Corps - Aitape, Dagua, Sarmi, Noemfoor and now Wasile have all been multi diviisonal assaults he has to honour that threat ..... doesnt he ?

1st Aus Div, 4th Aus Div and 9th Aus Div are all recovering well in Brisbane and will be ready for operations in a month the issue is I will be transferring most of my assault shipping and carriers to Centpac so operations will have to be within Land Based Aircover and Medium bomber on Ground Attack Range as I will need my heavies in Centpac.

Just one more op and then its all over !!!

OK guys doing some thinking.

Lets assume that operations against Namlea and Amboina are successful, that I am able to develop Wasile (albeit heavily garrsisoned) and that I am still fighting at Noemfoor

Most of my Assault shipping is now in Centpac.

At this point Centpac does not need more ground forces. I will have plenty for Thunderchild.

Where do I go next to keep the pressure on PZB in this theatre.

Southern Borneo ?
West towards Bali ?
Timor ?
Western Borneo ?
Java ?
Malaya ?

At best I will have 2 CV's left in theatre and probably only Idaho for battleline support so anything I do will need LBA cover.

I feel like I need to keep up the pressure to keep attriting his trained pilots.

With Hydra concluded I should be able to easily assemble ground forces even after neccesary deployments

Any thoughts on where I should go next in this subsidiary theatre.

Andy

Range 4 is key, as I believe this is the normal range for most of your shorter range fighters.

Check out a line of bases at 4 or less hexes from eachother and advance through them. I'd suggest getting on Borneo, as it means that you'll get close enough to china to transfer your RAF/CAAF remnants out.

Perhaps some sneakiness is in order too. LRCAP is nowhere nearly as effective as your carrier cap so Pzb will be tempted to use his LBA to strike back at you. Also his surface fleet would have a chance. Therefore, perhaps just a few days before thunderchild you could launch a fake invasion that goes out a bit too far, tempting him to bring in air units from other areas (marianas).

Use barges and a DE or two with perhaps an AK to give an impression of a big fleet.

Hmmm sneaky I like it !!!

I think bypassing Timor is a good idea the only pre requisite for any future op in this area is that the target must be a lvl 1 AF I must have air support from day 1 if this is going to work.

I am looking at some of the islands around Bali or perhaps the west coast of Borneo neither area can be high priority for reinforments I think I will start a massive recon exersize in this area to make him think I am seriously considering it

In fact I think I will concentrate some recon assets at Wasile in next few days and use it to do a complete map of PZB's territory in the area if nothing else it will drive him mad !!!!

p.s. Because of the supply situation of my ground units 35k of supplies is at the base when captured and the seabees have done there job the AF is open and 1 sqn of Spits and 1 of P38J's are pfroving aircover for the base.

I will bring in 2 Sqns of F4U's ASAP as well.

100 good LB Fighters will make it tough for PZB to close the AF

Hydra has gone well so far, but you have a lot of strung out bases. Perhaps a bit of consolidation is in order. I would develop a few mutually supporting lvl 4 a/f bases in the Amboina/Wasile area (no map here so I can't name any right now). That would give you a solid base from which to press further into Borneo as String suggested. Oh and get Noemfoor sorted out quickly - a lot of your now limited assets in SWPAC would be tied up keeping your LOC open.

You said you destroyed 1700 Jap a/c in the Wasile/Morotai operation - If PzB could gather that many again then any further moves forward would be very risky - if you don't consolidate.

Thanks for a great AAR

Go for S Borneo and after it take W Borneo thus isolating Japan out of Oil Supply your 4E heavy's + 2 E bombers should sink every Jap Tanker in Sight... and then you can see how fast he will run out of Oil and HI points...

I do have lots of bases that are strung out but they are all well supplied covered with DD's or PT Boats and well garrisoned

If I take Amboina and Namlea then that will give me 4 advanced bases in the area.

Apart from nuisance raids the main focus will be on developing those bases and Kai Island.

I won't have the strength for much more.

Just a quick recap of future ops

8th US Army (Tinian)
V Amphib Corps (Tinian)
3rd US Corps (Tinian)
III Amphib Corps (Pagan)
9th US Corps (Marcus/Wake)

6th US Army (Saipan)
1st Amphib Corps (Saipan)
11th US Corps (Saipan)

1st Aus Army (Hydra)
1st Aus Corps (Available)
1st US Corps (Wasile - moving to army reserve)
14th US Corps (Noemfoor)
ABDA Corps (Amboina/Namlea)

Only really 1st Aus Corps is ready for an operation at present and I am strongly considering using them to sieze Admiralties and Emirau as they have been bombed back to the stone age.

These bases must be out of supply and would be easy pickings

So basically a little back office consolidation is what I am considering.

I could do that  but only at the expense of not assaulting the Marianas and I think getting 4E in range of HI is more valuable.

My subs will cause mayhem on the northern route and my 2E bombers will close the south Borneo channel

Btw, how is your sub war coming along? As you've upgraded to the latest patch the air ASW should be reasonable now.

We have and my subs are moving into position again to get ready for a blitz on his LOC's

I figure if I can close the Tarakan straight with Liberators out of Wasile then he will have to send all his tankers the Northern Route

My subs will be waiting.........................................
