OK I have had a fair amount of time while pZB is off on holiday and plans are now finalised

Phase 1 8th US Army will land in South and West Borneo with 2 Corps and a para regt will sieze Zamboanga (lvl 3 SPS Island)

Phase 2 1st Aus Army will hit Malaya with 2 strengthened Corps of ANZAC troops

When Malaya is secure General Alexander's Burma Corps HQ will activate and lead a drive back into Burma from the south (Burcorps is currently in China)

1st Aus Corps will then land directly onto South India with the goal of capturing one city to allow for CAS.

ABDA Corps will remain in Malaya and lead the mop up.

Phase 3 6th US Army (2 Corps) will land in Mindanao at the earliest opportunity - Luzon will be bypassed.

Phase 4 US 11th Corps, 14th Corps and the Theatre Reserve will be committed as and when required. It is likely if good progress is made by the Aus 1st Army that 1 of these three forces will be made available for the re invasion of India.

Phase 5 10th US Army (4 Corps MINIMUM) will perform a deep strike invasion on a base of sufficient size (6+) that will place B29's in range of HI -> exact target still to be determined.

Thats the plan for the remainder of 44 45 I am glad now that I have had time to think about it that I chickened out of the Marianas.

Question...

Why do you need Malaysia at all. Surely just taking Mindanao and using all of your force to do so quickly will give you what you really need in cutting Japan off from its major sources of HI and Resources +/- an invasion of India to gain access to greater infantry reserves. Invading Malaysia won't free up additional forces or inflict substantially greater damage on the enemy that I can see.

Honestly I think India is a diversion of resources nevermind Malaysia. Why spread yourself so thin? What are you gaining by doing so?

Reasons

1. Points I am trying to win this game sinking the entire jap fleet and destroying industry may not be enough while PZB has all those points rich cities.

2. Air bases without massively overstacking I need lost of good lvl 4 and 5 AF's and Malaya is a good area for that.

3. Land units are not the problem dumping a few hundred thousand men in Malaya/Burma removes the need for amphib ops allowing me to keep more forces in action without the need for massive sealift.

4. Pressure I dont want PZB retreating to a safe inner perimeter now that he knows I have abandoned Marianas

5. Forward repair yard a 100 point advanced repair yard is worth its wait in gold to me at moment - keeps my carriers at front while reducing sys damage.

Basically I think there are sufficient good reasons for hitting Malaya and probably trying to retake Rangoon. India I will play by ear and is a tertiary operation.

(I have an Army of 4 Corps assembling pretty much without a target ground forces are not the issue !!!!)

Ok, I guess I just hate to see a diversion of effort from the schwerpunkt ;). So, it is an operation to shape the battlefield for the next operation and not intended to be decisive of itself. Gotcha.

BTW though are you guys playing for points or all the way to the invasion of Japan? I had been under the impression that this one was not going to be called on points.

Pretty much India is a diversion Singapore/Malaya eases my logistics a lot. Basically I would take the base and stockpile it with losts of fuel and supplies and use it as my advanced logistics hub.

Re points well maybe not but I still intend to win I cannot help myself I need to play to win its a bad habit I have BUT whatever the points the game is going all the way !!!!!

Ah good! That was my concern. I would hate to think such an interesting game would end because on " 13th December 1944 Player A achieved a 2:1 points ratio" or some other completely fake cr*p like that ;).

Thanks for the clarification.

Na North Pacific is a backwater.

If I was going to attack Japan from that direction I would just load up 2 or 3 assault Corps and land direct onto North Japan

OK Back in action it will take time for units to redeploy in the meantime I am planning on rushing 2 Carrier TF's an a raiding role to keep the pressure on.

I would also like to finish off Noemfoor soon he has to be low on supplies there by now and being able to forward deploy forces would be good

Finishing off Noemfoor sounds like a very good plan; but a raid just for the sake of having a raid might not be if your CVs get slammed. If you went someplace like that backwater of Northern Japan, then he might be forced to start thinking about you intervening there and have to place some home guard units back on the Home Islands. I expect he might be thinking you might take a more direct approach to the Home Islands given the problems you experienced in the Mariannas.

Intel reports Zamboanga is low on troops I reconned the place a few days ago and I got some intel today.

If true PZB has made a massive mistake a lvl 3 SPS AF lightly guarded in range of my Paras <evil laugh>

My B29's went in in full strength and bombed the crap out of Manila unfortunately no flat tops were present and only 60 fighters on CAP.

I have also loaded up a TF to attack Emirau and clean out the last of the bases screening Rabaul.

Overall a good turn

Resting up my bombers and transports I am being very carefull to stay withing agreed stacking limits so only 150 C47's are massed at the lvl 6 AF (Wasile) as well as 170 B29's most of the fighters have been pulled back to allow recon and 1 P38 Group to remain.

Tomorrow I will try to hit Clark Field Hard, Land at Emirau and lastly sieze Zamboanga

I am moving my carriers back towards the PI and have detached 4 Fletcher class DD's in 2 TF's of 2 towards Zamboanga to hopefully protect the base after I take it.

Noticed in the AAR that some of the B-29s laid mines apparently. I know there's been at least one thread where the complaint was made that minelaying a/c can't be intercepted. Were mines really laid (an icon in the hex perhaps?)?

It'd be interesting to know just what the fire level on the ISE is. Seems that many hits would have to have a pretty serious effect on any ship.

OK mixed turn B29's are not invincible I lost a total of 19 Superforts today 20% attrition rate and the morale of the remainder is in the toilet even B29's cannot go in by daylight unescorted.

1 Sqn of B29's supported the Zamboanga landins by laying mines in the base on the turn I capture it. It is captured but I severely underestimated the effectiveness of my Paras it was a bloody close call. I should have withdrawn the bombers and used all my transports for a mass airlift.

However it was a success the base is captured an intact lvl 3 SPS base in the heart of the PI.

It activates Kamis I think but even so I think its worth it a lvl 3 pre built base capable of going to lvl 6 in the heart of his defences - what a mistake by PZB - I have ordered in 72 F4U1D's and a sqn of Helldivers and will be using my C47's (60 on troops rest on supply) to fly in reinforcements.

At the same time all bombers are ordered to fly in and para drop supplies. I am only using 60 C47's for troop movement following my agreement with PZB only to use 50xrecieving AF less available aircraft at destination base to calcualte C47 sorties on TROOP carrying missions obviously the balance will be air dropping supplies to the base.

My DD's will be in situ tomorrow and both carrier TF's are moving to support after savaging a convoy today with a regt of the 106th Infantry on board.

So far so good if I can hold the base its a good trade for kamis being activated.

My main TF's inch ever closer.

Not sure if mines were laid but I presume so my agreement with PZB is not more than 1 48 plane bomb group on air mining per 24 hours.

But I rarely use my allocation as its to tough to clear them.

I only used 1 sqn on minelaying in this phase so 16 total.

Ise will be fine I am sure 500lbers just bonce off of Battleships. Had she not been in port I am sure those transports would be dead by now.

Emirau fell today and PZB sent in some lightly escoprted AP's right into my little DD Sqn

I sank a few and turned the rest back.

My Corsairs held the line and I am sending the Superforts against Jolo tomorrow escorted by P38J's

No sign of Kamikazes yet.

My TF's inch further forward

OK I still await the turn but apparently Japanese have lost 300+ this next turn.

As I sent B29'sescorted by P38J's against Jolo I am guessing I caught PZB's AF.

I will be interested in the comparative A2A losses Jacks, Georges and Tonies (plus Franks ??) v P38's, Corsairs and Hellcats as my pilots were all top XP ones (F4U1D's were 80+ xp pilots)

If that is true than excellent job! Those B29's can cause Havoc. In my againts FDR I'am unable to deploy them properly just yet since he has moved his airforce quite far away.

Anyway 300 destroyed enemy planes is going to hurt him. Another good thing is that you have now demonstarated that Philippines is not safe for him navy neither it is safe for his airforce. That is a big mental victory!

Yup although the cost when I hit Clark was sobering I will still be restricted to 660 miles to allow my P38J's to escort.

Wasile is really proving its worth as a forward base.

If I can hold onto Zamboanga and get it to lvl 6.............

p.s. PZB admitted he was only 1 Day !!!!! away form reinforcing Zamboanga with a full Regt. Now that is nice timing .

I do question why he left only a road construction bn at such an important base

Still waiting for the turn the more I think on it the more weird I think it is. A level 3 SPS AF with no aircover (not even a sqn of oscars) in the heart of the PI with my fleet on its way.

Is this a trap ?

To me its an obvious target for a naval landing that I just pre empted with Paratroopers why didnt he defend it better - it has good SPS, no land connection and a small garrison.

Was I Just tempted into activating Kamis in order to allow him to use them on my fleet as it attacks ? Have I in fact just been suckered by PZB ?

I wanted to avoid this part of the map as there are to many bases for me to shut them all down. Following the Marianas debacle I had to change targets but I am not happy about it. (My original intention was to bypass the morass that is the PI and I am very nervous about changing that poistion),

Kamis are as useless as any other plane when they are shot down by CAP
