While you are consolidating some of the by-passed bases, what are your plans for the rest of Borneo??
Do you have the necessary LBA to cover a limited advance up the west coast??

OK guys been thinking about the Uber CAP issue something does have to be done it isnt fair and I know it isnt and I am not willing to play a game with that level of in equity so I will propose some form of self imposed restriction the question is what ? (PZB hasnt raised this again this is me coming to a conclusion - a bit late but hey better late than never !!!!)

(This wont apply to PZB as lets face it he doesnt have any carriers left anyway !!!! )

What do you think about no more than 5 FLEET Carriers in one hex so I can support with as many CVL's CVE's etc but I can only operate max 5 Fleet Carriers in any one hex at any one time and limiting to max 70% CAP on fleet and light carriers

Is that to generous ?

Any thoughts ?

I would tend to disagree, with my argument being history. If you look at TF 38/58 in late 44-45, there were 9-12 CVs in the TGs and they often operated in close proximity to each other. A 60 mile hex is (approximately) 3600 square miles. That's a lot of area for 4-5 TGs to maneuver in.

Just my two cents....

How many Level 8/9 airbases (fully operational) of yours does he try to attack?
(Well, you probably don't have any in range, but that's besides the point).

Anyway, that's what an Allied carrier TF is like in 44/45. It would be very difficult to strike an airbase like that, and an carrier TF should be no different.

Late-war Japanese players have to get used to the fact that they can't take on Allied air power at will. Waiting for openings is the only chance.
I'm at 11/44 in one of my games, and spend most of my time waiting for the Allied player to make a mistake, any mistake (even then, I get creamed).

But I never attack when he's operating in force. Not unless he's been on station for a long time...

Everyone knows: There was NEVER a complete super duper Japanese CAP shield and NEVER a super duper Allied CAP shield between 41 and 46.

House rule in my PBEMs: planes on airfield: AF size x 50 max! planes in sea hex: max 450 = level 9 airfield! Works good. If you have a limit for airfields on land why shouldnīt this same apply to floating airfields? This is just because the game engine, I donīt want to say you canīt put more than 5 Essex carriers in a hex with 3600 square miles! But you could also put more than 500 land based planes (level 10 airfield) in a 3600 square mile hex on land. You can still put THOUSANDS of planes near an island by just putting one CV-TF next to the other hex on hex.

History or reality isnīt a real issue here, itīs the game engine and in "some" points stupid A2A combat.

I dont know I just dont know I need to think about this a little more

Mike/BLurking I understand and to some extent agree with what you are saying but Castor has a point we need to ignore reality and look at the game impact I am going to make no quick decisions on this.

Castors idea wouldnt really work for me as I dont accept a 50x hardcap as you are aware I limit myself to 100x so that would mean 900 which is most of the allied fleet.

I have a few weeks to think about it a little more.

The whole issue may be irrelevant anyway I doubt I will be able to operate as one deathstar fleet in the future anyway as I have a lot of ground to cover and not a great deal of time to do it in.

PZB is an incredibly tough opponent I pretty much had him on the run  all the way through Hydra and I am sure I caught him by surprise with my operational tempo and depth BUT despite that he held me up for months on Noemfoor. I made a good decision to back off of Marianas and a bad one to attack Zoamboanga what should be clear to everyone is that Japanese losses are going to be SUPER HEAVY in 44/45 accept it and punish the allies when they over reach !!!

He spends every unit to maximise damage and cause delay as a fighting retreat its a masterpiece. His surface ships and use of them have been very impressive every risk appear calculated (except KB that is !!!!).

Each of the next three days has the same pattern hundreds of aircraft training in China isolated raids by my fighter and bombers onhis targets.

I have offloaded half of the CVR Gps and have moved them to the front they operate better than 2E bombers from low level AF's

Get a base in B-29 range of those airfields. He must be majorly overstacked.

A couple of daylight raids, and you could take out several thousand planes.
At worst, he'll have to keep a CAP over the airbases - less planes training...

OK thanks to BLurking the allies just got a new variant on the plan !!!

Whether or not I go all the way to Malaya is still in doubt but securing North Borneo just moved up the target priority list A LOT

There are two bases that can take B29's one in the West Singkawaing and one in the Centre Mili both can be developed to allow ops from Superforts (I only operate from minimum lvl 5 and prefer 6)

Given the strategic imperitive of interfering with this dammed training I am going to release some forces from 1st Aus Army at Darwin for an attack on this Axis.

A plan is forming involving a 1st USMC Div and 11th Arborne out of Wasile and at least 1 Crops of the Aussie Army in North Australia

Pre requisites of this plan are securing Macasser and Banja.

3rd NZ Div is now all in Darwin and in recovery mode I estimate 60 days before its fit for ops so it could replace one of the Divs I will be drawing out of 1st Aus Army for this operation.

I have 8 Superfort Gps so 400 B29's they could ruin anyones day !!!!

Your problem is you don't think enough like a Japanese player.
I've been suffering under the umbrella of B-29s for months now (PDU game, so it's even worse - more groups).

I assume EVERYTHING can be hit by those loathsome beasts.

Trust me Andy - focus on getting a few bases along the central axis of Japan, and watch PzB suffer.

Even the safe bases don't feel safe anymore. Paranoia reigns supreme...

You seem to be in good shape with reagrds to B-25's and B-24's.
The B-29's could be better.
You have the advantage in air power, except the F6F's, but that horse has already been beaten to death.
I would close the South China Sea to shipping and force PzB to rely on stored resources/oil to fuel his economy.
Remember...attrition is YOUR friend!!

North Borneo would open up alot for you it allows you to effectivly cut off the DEI from anything from mainland Japan. The only means of resuply would be from ocupied India. Also those bases allow you to pummel China, PI, and Formosa. Thus allowing you to advance under cover of LBA. However, I would not rush your time table. Wait till you have consolidated your gains, bombed the DEI into submission and are not in danger of lossing more vital transports.

After you gain North Borneo the option is yours where to strike next, China; a reinvastion of Hong Kong would not make PZBs day forcing him to remove preasure from the beligured chinese units and posibly allowing for a breakout, Formosa; B-29 haven where you can strike mainland Japan and most all shipping going anywhere, or PI; which has major point values for the Allies as well as good bases to wreak havoc on Japan

I agree its a little out of whack but a few things to consider.

1. These are 75xp pilots with a few 90's in the mix.
2. PZB indicated these were poor zeke pilots
3. It was a fairly LR Strike
4. My CAP was up high because of anti kami patrol so I had a real height advantage

Even so not a good result I would be more worried about  the bombers getting only one hit although an allied anchorage is a hard place to hit in 44 with lots of base forces and ships in port

OK a mutliple turn update not going to post all the turn by turn updates

I am landing 2 Divisions at Macasser and it should fall tomorrow or the next day

I have FT'd a Bde to the base above Banja which only had a Construction Bn it should also fall tromorrow (Lvl 1)

3 Corps is mustering outside Banja and should move in tomorrow.

All going well I should have Macasser/ Banja and 2 advanced lvl 1 bases all within a week !!!

Lastly the island off the coast of Java with a lvl 1 AF is unguarded - after the mess I made of the last assault I should steer clear but I cannot help myself I just cannot not attack it <sobs> I am a Parachute addict

Are you still considering an assault on Malaya after Borneo? If you are you may want to consider taking Sabang on northern Sumatra before hand. Its a potential level 6 airfield and would put all of Burma, Malaya, Indochina and parts of China under a heavy bomber umbrella. This would also put Ceylon and Chandpur area in B-29 range. This would also be useful for bombing any ships/LCUs that attempt to reinforce the Malayan peninsula. This would also prevent PzB from removing any forces from the west coast of Java. Virtually all of his remaining resource centers would also be targetable. I'm not sure but it may put his training bases in range also.

The troop ships could stay out of patrol range by moving up the west coast of Java and should be quite the surprise to PzB. I doubt the place is heavily defended as he shouldn't be expecting an assault there. I really doubt that PzB could react very well to a two-pronged air assault on Malaya from Borneo and Sabang. You would need carrier support until you had fighters in place so I don't know if that would be a problem for you.

Anyways, just a thought. Don't know if its doable or something you want to attempt.

Chez

Malaya I am not sure of now he hasnt expanded the repair yard so its lower on the value chain than before I may try it I am not sure.

I am considering Sabang but I doubt its worth it unless I am going all out for the Norht

Interestingly the base off java was siezed but I failed above Banja as no supplies went witht he FT :( I missed that one.

I will need to reinforce.
