I am now at work having sent off the turn and am very nervous about having went back in for Gumma methinks I may have over reached.....

I am also hard at work thinking about a new plan to blast my way through to the Home Islands

It aint cunning its very very Brute Force but that does not mean it wont work.

I am thinking I can probably muster 30 Divs now no matter what PZB has on Okinawa I probably have the firepower to take it.

Bonin Island -> Naga -> Okinawa just pound my way through via brute force I would need Clark 1st to allow me a forward rest area but apart from that itshould be doable ?

I have withdrawn slightly and am attacking at Clak and Linguyen I also have a cunning plan for Manila...

If I feint at Manila from the sea and air I think PZB will pull out of Clark Field.

I think my next real target has to be Okinawa

8th US Army has about 5000 AV at present and has finished its refit at Camranh Bay - I will commence loading and will use that fleet to feint at manila and then sail onto Okinawa.

Okinawa will be a hard nut to take but if I need to enter into a hard nasty mountian fight then I may as well pick Okinawa as anywhere else.

Luckily for you the Shinden with its very short legs is crap at escorting and Reppus and Franks, while good planes, cannot break the UBERCAP, so his offensive firepower isn't big, on the other hand defensively he will be quite strong.

But there is no spine that a couple of sweeps with 250 P51s followed by 250 B29s can't break...

Formosa might be a better option. Or consolidation in the Phillipines where things are a bit bogged down. The sooner you get ahold of those lvl 4 airfields the worse it is for PzB -- then you can cover a lot of invasions with LBA based on Clark Field or nearby. Will help with the future invasions.

But what about retaking India? I know you're not playing for VPs, but it seems that that has the potential to really swing things in your favor by that measure.

You can also bag a lot of points with strategic bombing; that's added a lot already to the VP totals, but the realy pay-off is in destroyed Japanese aircraft factories. Less Shindens to face in future if you can keep doing what you have been trying to do.

I know the strategic war is about over, but releasing your subs might be a good thing -- at least to make sure the outposts of the Empire are withering and not sending/receiving supplies. Interdicting Iwo with subs might help your beleagured ground troops, too.

Formosa is very heavily defended and in range of several range 2 AF's so Shindens come into play

I have a lot of lvl 4 AF's in north PI Vigan, Laong, Appari and Tuguero to cover invasions and after this latest turn I will be standing down all 124 P51's to rest and get ready for future operations

Strat Bombing is a good point scorer but Manpower is a waste of time target and I need to get fighters in range to do real damage and that means Okinawa.

India is tough I have Yanam in the south and when it is level 4 AF I will consider moving out but playing that one slightly slow appears to be the way to proceed.

Iwo is a prion camp for him as well but subs are out there I have just lost soooo many of them that I dont know what to do now.

I'm assuming that the VPs/level of victory aren't really your concern at this point, right?

If that's the case, then I assume you'll be using nukes every month or holding off and unleashing an Armageddon Alpha Strike on several targets simultaneously -- I'd like to see the latter, especially if a seaborne invasion of the Home Islands followed right on its heels!

Umm no I am watching VP's carefully

I need 1.8x with no more than 2 A Bombs to get a draw by March 46

As soon as I get a nuke Gumma is toast one month later Tokyo's getting it I just dont have them yet.

Last I saw the VPs were 103K-87K (1.18x). If his numbers hold steady, you'd need about 156K to win, but his are likely to go down a bit as you retake bases. I think he might have made an error in India building up Lvl9 forts as that raises their value in VPs when you take them back. Not sure what the numbers in India would look like, but it is bound to be thousands taken from him and added to your totals. Not sure if that would make victory possible without invading the Home Islands, but if you're keeping a close eye on VPs then looking at where the VPs are to be had might be helpful -- any chance you might post some of that info?

Will do I need to wait for PZB's next turn and its 156k for the draw I cannot win now !!!

I only have 5 Divs in India so its unlikely I will make much progress (and one of those went off road for some reason - I hate movement mechanics)

Forts don't affect VP values, only airfields and ports.
And even for airfields and ports, the Allies have a bazillion engineers, they could build them up themselves.

that's useful to know -- a way to get some more VPs in the end-game -- never let your engineers rest, always build up facilities (or prep for the next invasion!)

OK we are back in dodge and running turns I tried to hit Tokyo to be honest I am dissapointed in the results my Superforts seem to do no damage I had over 200 hit Tokyo in daylight attacking manpower and did swwet FA damage WTF doesa it take to get a firestorm going.

Change in plan I am going to take Colombo as it is lightly guarded

Also decided not to go for Okinawa I figured I will finish off PI 1st and will land a large force at manila PZB only has 15,000 men and 12 units in the city I think he has sent em all to Clark

Hui Andy,

I think i've done enough testing of Manpower hits in my game vs Fasbrer at Gumma. My conclusiondon;t do it. You can achieve far better results by precision bombing. I bombed a relartively unopposed city for 2 weeks solid and number of fires actually DECREASED (due to wear and tear ther number of B29's that flew dropped. If you miss a day due to weather the fires drop by 70-80%!) Check my AAR for the results but seriously don't go for Manpower. Go for specific industries.

How did he do it Marky ?

Thanks Speedy but that is worrying the allies NEED the 20 points for destroying industry and the only way to do it is via firestorms I have been bombing the HI for months and only have 5,000 points I was counting on 60 or 70,000 to get up to a draw but this looks increasingly unlikely

We have to face the reality that most of the things which are supposed to happen late in the war just don't sound right, whenever they even accept to work.
Eventually, a substancial amout of AARs are starting to get well into 1945 2 years after the initial release, I suppose it is time to address these issues then

Sorry Marky but I disagree. I would like to see that. If you owned Saipan and Tinian with masses of B29's on each and you flew raids for days on end for 2 months I think it would be an option but I can't see that happening in Stock games.

How do you get 1,000 B29's I have at max about 600 in all sqns and i cannot sustain operations at best I can get 300 over target on a max day effort and it is not enough to cause a firestorm.

I am gambling slightly in landing at Manila I dont think PZB has much there but urban plus lvl 9 forts could hurt...

But he didnt detect me until I was one turn away and if he has left the barn door open.....

If I can consolidate into the PI resupply and give my troops a couple of months rest then lat 45 could see a real push on the HI.

I need to now accept that the game will go into 46 and play for the draw.

I am bombing at 6,000 feet in daylight and 250 29's did about 300 VP's worth of damage thats either 15 destroyed industry or 150 damaged - given that tokyo probably has 10,000 industry points (resources/HI and factories) thats not a lot of damage

I thought long and hard about recent operations the temptation to go after Okinawa was very high but on balance I feel the Manila option is better - at most PZB will have 1 Division there and I can land 4000+ AV and keep reinforcing even 400 AV X 4 (Forts) x 4 (Urban) is a tough nut to crack for 4,000 AV BU I can bring in BB's and Air Attacks to weaken them plus my guys are very tough and highly experienced so it hink this is a better option...

I suspect the forces of 1st Australian Army (including the 2 US Corps) will look down on those CENTPAC pansies after all these are the guys that landed on New Guinea, Sulawesi, Borneo, Malaya, won the Battle of Bangkok, Saigon and Camrahn bay. (We dont mention Zamboanga....)

So they have to land and take the pressure off of 6th and 10th US Armies who have slogged their guts out accross the mountains and jungles of North Luzon but are now hung up at lingyen and Clark......

An atom bomb?

Glad to see you're starting to focus your attacks somewhat more in the PI. Maybe some of those 4E bombers could start pounding Clark? Anyways, creating a bunch a seiges on tough-to-crack bases is just going to tie up a lot of your forces. A single huge stack is probably the best way forward -- one sledgehammer blow at a time. Otherwise he'll fly/barge in lots of troops and stalemate you -- lots of Iwo's out there unless you can break the impasse.

I'd give up on the gambles -- they have caused you lots of grief so far in this game. Just go slow and steady.

Well landing at Manila should help reduce Clark quicker even if I dont take manila no supplies will get through so although its a small risk its a huge one all it takes is one base out of the three to fall and it becomes difficult for PZB to hold on if I have the PI and can ship in supplies with 2 big bases both non malaria I can rest my troops and then properly plan my next move repair my ships basically get the whole fleet ready to go after my troops and ships are properly rested.

Yes the Soviets have been upgrading over the course of the last few weeks and months...

OK I don't have the combat replay but the highlights are

For the risk I am taking over Tokyo it aint worth it I had an anemic bombardment of Tokyo and my carriers did minimal damage no matter what I do I cannot cripple Japanese industry or even really damage it.

I am going to withdraw and leave it all behind.

In PI I have landed a strong force at Manila and its almost empty c 150 AV max PZB has left his rear uncovered !!!

I hope I can take it tomorrow - all my air in the PI will concentrate on Manila if I take it that is a huge prize - big mistake by PZB. If I take manila thats a level 9 port and a lvl 6 AF and it should allow me to finish off Clark Field and Liguyen reasonably quickly.

I will then concentrate all my forces in the PI (excl  1 Aus Corps in India ABDA Corps watching SEA and XXIV Corps on Iwo.

I will allow them to rest and refit in Manila and Clark while I ship in supplies, base forces and fuel and repair my ships - I dont like that I am in this position but the best option for me is to consolidate, finish off Luzon and rest my forces while resupplying Luzon as my main base of operations for future ops.

If I concentrate all 4 of my Armies on Luzon and pull in ancilliary forces it will give me a breather time to build preparation levels for future ops and rest those tired soldiers.

I seem to get all the luck in this game but none against Pauk its weird ;)

PZB has his own issues turns out HA class subs wont produce...

With the fall of Manila I am reconcentrating forces in Luzon and I am going to continue to concentrate.

The Battle over Tokyo is accepted to be lost and no more risky attacks will be sanctioned instead these forces will attack Bonins to clear a path for my transport convoys bringing supply and fuel into Luzon

Sorry guys been a little distracted over the last few days so not been updating.

OK Sitrep

INDIAN FRONT

Allied carriers are all damaged after heavy Japanese raids.

CINC India made a mistake in landing at Colombo as the terrain is to much to overcome when tied to lvl 9 forts.

Lvl 9 forts are x 4 Def Value, x 2 for rough terrain so thats x 8 to defenders - even a BF can hold off a combat Div in those circumstances.

A subsidiary landing at Trincomalee is proceeding instead and we have high hopes as it is flat terrain so I only need to overcome the x4 from forts.

(The combination of forts and terrain make some bases almost impregnable - e.g Iwo, Okinawa, Saipan - if properly defended with lv 9 forts (x4) and Mountain terrain (x3) the base AV is x12 for the defenders which means to get a 2 : 1 against a single Div the allies need to bring 24 Divs ) and even if out of supply thats a base x 3 (x6 for 2:1)

MALAYSIAN/SEA FRONT

All quiet no action planned on this front.

1st Aus Army is transferring to CENTPAC

CENTPAC

PI offensive is starting to pick up steam with the veterans of 1st Aus Army arriving at Manila and the supply route to 6th US Army at Clark reopened we have high hopes of finishing off Clark after which the Luzon campaign is a mopping up campagn while troops prepare for next steps

NORPAC

24th US Corps on Iwo is held up but holding

5th Fleet has been actively suppressing the Bonins to allow passage of 1.5m tonnes of war supplies heading for Luzon - Luzon will be transferred into the arsenal for the coming operations.

OTHER THEATRES

Dead as a dodo no activity by either side.

Basically after I finish off resistance on luzon and get my 4 Armies aligned and ready I will need to consider next steps.

If we assume mopping up will take unitil Sept 45 I need to decide on next steps which IMO need to be a Fighter AF in range of the HI or the HI themselves...

Assuming all 4 combat armies are rested and concentrated where do I go - its going to be a tricky question....
