Status: offline 		Imperial Rikusentai took control of the town of Roxas today. Elsewhere, American destroyers hounded our submarines at Midway heavily, but unsuccessfully through the day.

Status: offline 		Under the thunderous barrage of the guns of half a dozen Imperial battleships, Army troops today began coming ashore at Canton. It has turned out that the city is rather more heavily garrisoned than previously believed by Intelligence, but our troops, many of them combat-hardened veterans from the Phillipines campaign, shall prevail over the Chinese forces.



Soldiers of the <censored> Division wading ashore at Canton.

Elsewhere, Ormoc was seized by Navy Rikusentai after yesterday's landing.

On the submarine front, Royal Navy submarine L-1 continues to make a nuisance of herself in the waters around Bataan, and aircraft were used for ASW for the first time, when a Navy flying boat attacked a US submarine at Wake.

With these subs hit and the others sunk, does it mean the ASW effectiveness is greatly improving weeks after weeks of fight, or is it rather the result of some new tactics, or a new patch?

Status: offline 		A good day for the Navy's submarine branch. Royal Navy cruiser Dartmouth, US Navy cruiser Salem, and Chinese destroyer Yu Chang were all torpedoed, the British cruiser subsequently sinking about 60 miles east of Singapore. Additionally, the American destroyer Sinclair sank southeast of Midway.

Southeast of Canton, the Chinese cruiser squadron attempted to intercept a transport task force going to the city and failed utterly.

Status: offline 		how exactly do countries "enter war"? In WPO? If I am not mistaken, until the japs attacked Canton, China was not at war with japan yes? Neither was britain?

Status: offline 		It's house rules. In the scenario set-up, it's Japan vs. everybody else, but several of the other PBEM's in the AAR section have more or less elaborate house rules on when nations other than the US can go to war with Japan. No such thing here.

Status: offline 		Small naval skirmish off Canton tonight saw the final destruction of the Chinese fleet, as two Chinese cruisers and a destroyer stumbled over my main battle squadron stationed there. The resulting battle was swift, noisy and rather one-sided. Glad to finally see the last of those ships!




BTW, don't be fooled by the smoke rising from my battle line. That's the result of last turn's duelling with the local coastal defences.

Status: offline 		Nothing much to report today. Imperial submarine No. 41 attempted to set up on the British destroyer Tribune east of Singapore, but was unsuccessful, and subsequently heavily depth charged.

Status: offline 		Imperial destroyer Kisaragi and transport Kaimyo Maru sank today, returning from the highly successful raid on Canton. It can now be revealed that the intention of that attack was to draw out Allied naval forces to be destroyed, and as was seen, it succeeded.

(PS: the above sentence is slightly revisionistic, but consider it Japanese propaganda. Obviously, the sack of meat behind this computer committed a bit of an error when it landed at Canton).

Status: offline 		Allied communication was subject to a blackout until this stage after plans to trap and destroy the Japanese 17th Division were found to be widely available causing their swift retreat from Canton.

However, the engagement has cemented relationships between British and Chinese forces who are satisfied that any further invasion attempts will be dealt with swiftly and without mercy.

The innovative CV Argus is sweeping the general area.

Status: offline 		Imperial troops prepared to secure Illoilo today, whilst at Midway yet another American cruiser, the USS Chicago, fell afoul of one of our submarines and was hit by a single torpedo.

At Davao, a Navy ASW group is hunting US submarine S-17, so far without result.

Status: offline 		A large naval action took place off Hong Kong this afternoon. The enemy had deployed a US-UK-French task force several days ago, presumably to intercept my transport forces for the Canton incident. Over the past couple of days, Imperial submarines had provided intelligence that this force had unwisely chosen to linger in place, very close to our main fleet bases on Formosa.

Today, this arrogance was punished, when an Imperial Navy battleforce, led by four battleships, attacked the enemy. A very long engagement followed, only cut short by the onset of night and the withdrawal of the opposing force.

As can be seen from the accompanying screenshot, only the American cruiser Albany was sunk outright, although most of the other enemy vessels, including the ancient monitor Monadnock and cruisers Huron, New Orleans and Rochester, were severely damaged. Our own forces escaped largely unscathed.

Status: offline 		Mostly submarine action today. US submarine S-17 was hit at least 3 times at Davao, although no sinking could be confirmed. Unfortunately, Imperial submarine No. 40 was less lucky in the hunting grounds off Singapore, and succumbed to a barrage of depth charge. That's the third submarine confirmed sunk (for both sides) since the beginning of the war.

Elsewhere, in a reaction to yesterday's statement from the British War Cabinet, the press spokesman for the Imperial General Staff today said, "Baka Gaijin should stop whining! This is war!".

Status: offline 		In a daring and flawlessly executed night surface attack, Imperial submarine No. 26 sank the American fleet oiler Patoka last night, some 50 miles east of Midway.

Elsewhere, Imperial Army troops landed on the island of Cebu, covered by the big guns of our bombardment task force.

(I'm really happy with the way my submarines seem to be hitting their stride. Now if only my ASW forces could do as well...)
