To celebrate the first birthday of Field of Glory, the game will be sold at a 50% discount on both Slitherine and Matrix site until the 12th of December.
The release of Field of Glory in late 2009 took the wargaming world by storm. The digital adaptation of tabletop wargaming rules came to revolutionize how PC wargames are played online, supported with the help of the community and expanded. Never before has a product seen such intense participation of an ever-expanding fan base and such continuous support by a publisher, developer and fans as a whole.
Since its release, the game has expanded into a humongous project, featuring 1043 different battle group images, 90 historic battles, 4 army packs with 206 different armies to choose from, hundreds of new features and it’s not over yet!
Keith Martin-Smith, Director at Developer Hexwar said: “What a year , where did 2010 go ? Since launching the Field of Glory Digital Edition we have never stopped. First we added the Digital Army Generator and we thought that would be it, but we could not resist so much positive user feedback and great ideas that the game has evolved a long way from what came out a year ago”.
The game has over 1,500 multiplayer games live at any time. So far over 500,000 multiplayer turns have been played. The most active player, john2412 has 679 battles played, 3.5 million casualties and 6.6 million kills and the sum of all registered player have inflicted over 4.6 billion kills !
Iain McNeil, Development Director at Slitherine added: “I have to thank our community for all the support and help they gave us and all the players that allowed us to make this wonderful journey. Field of Glory is more than a project to us: it started with the tabletop wargaming rules and it’s now a major franchise within the wargaming world. This couldn’t happen at all without the support of the thousands of players that enjoy the game in all its iteration worldwide”.
The game in its current version is the result of a hard work of co-ordination between the publishing team at Slitherine, the development team at Hexwar and the online community that posted over 23,000 posts in the official forum giving suggestions and asking for improvements.
Top player Panther Boy is the leader of one of the most active leagues, the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. He is a spokesperson for an entire community of players celebrating this first year of exceptional successes for the game: “Having started playing from the beginning I've really enjoyed seeing how Slitherine and Hexwar have committed themselves to improving the game with an eye towards achieving a truly polished product. It is also encouraging to know that player’s opinions hold enough weight to merit changes in the game when needed”.
