So, some of you may ask, who the heck is Herbert Gronemeyer? Well, he played the naval war correspondent ("Marinekriegsberichter") Lt Werner in the classic 1981 "Das Boot" movie/tv miniseries, and later started a music career. I was curious about this, so I looked for some of his stuff. I found an interesting track called "Celebrate the Day", which is sung in English, and was used as a theme song for the FIFA at one point. To me, it sounded like something Peter Gabriel would do.

I found some other samples of his music, and he covers a wide range of styles. I liked most of what I heard.

Apparently, he's pretty popular in Germany, but never succeeded in breaking too far into the international music market.

AFAIK, he didn't pursue his acting career any further. Any opinions on this guy?

Strange dude with some pretty strange somewhat depressing songs - I've seen him many times on MTV Germany or MTV Europe or whatever it was called back when MTV actually PLAYED MUSIC

Usually I am into strange/depressing music, but this guy seemed to sing something akin to telephone diary.... 1-2 songs were fine though.
