Hi guys,

First, thanks to all of you for your patience and your continued support of Close Combat. Just a heads up, here's a preliminary (not final) list of what's coming in the first update, hopefully in about a week. The second update will focus on improving pathfinding and will be about four weeks after the first update.

* Fixed a bug where strategic AI attack moves could be canceled when multiple battle groups were attacking the same map from multiple directions.

* Tweaked strategic AI aggressiveness for case where a single battle group is evaluating an attack move by itself.

* "Save As" from the debrief screen now makes a copy of the post-battle saved game file, rather than saving the game state shown on the Debrief screen.

* Fixed a bug where a battle was expected on a map with no Allied battle group when 1) Axis static troops were on the map, 2) an Axis battle group was forced to retreat onto the map, and 3) the battle which caused the Axis battle group to retreat was not the last battle of the turn.

* Fixed a bug where an incorrect circular dependency was created when the last move in a chain of moves (with each battle group waiting on the one at their destination to move) is from a map that has a higher map index than any of the other maps in the chain.

* Fixed CR/LF characters showing up as boxes in the briefing text on some versions of Windows XP.

* Three map file fixes. One RFM, one BTD and one BGM.

* Fixed sound cue error in the GeVox.sfx file.

I should also add this note from the developers:

"While we've opted to make some more improvements to the AI in the first update more will be forthcoming. The pathfinder and tactical AI are linked together and the pathfinder has a lot of impact on how the AI behaves so the bulk of the additional work on the AI can't be done until the pathfinder is renovated in the second update."

cheers

Investigation regarding the MG42 firepower lead to the discovery of reduced terrain protection values which doesn't seem right (see Mg42 thread).
Would be nice if the devs can look at this and include in the first patch.  Some think this is a gamebreaker.

Thanks for the update. Fingers crossed because the armour pathfinding is a game breaker for me.

Looks like it will take many more patches to fix. What I don't understand is that many of these problems are as old as the series, has nothing been learned in all that time?

I have to agree here. Many of the issues seen in LSA are also present in COI, WAR and TLD. It seems that at times what worked in the other games was ignored or made ineffective by other changes.

I asked about a pathfinding fix last week and then asked if the patch could then be made backwards compatible for COI, WAR and TLD...since it would be great to fix these issues since they are found in all the newer games.

Erik,

Thanks for the info. Will we be able to use our save game files once it is patched or will we have to restart the campaign?

Not to mention the fact that leaves lost their LOS hindrance value. Teams can often see/shoot further through woods than through crops.

The general rule of thumb is in order for updates to be fully effective you need to restart games. That won't prevent you from using old saved games it's just that you may see unexpected results and possibly bugs related to file inconsistencies with the updates.

Yeah I am tired of hearing that each latest version is the best and most up to date etc etc etc... Not only are some of these problems present in the rereleases, they are present in the originals from over 10 years ago. All the wishlists threads... all the bug reports.... all the previous experience from god knows how many people overlooked. Instead of improvements to long standing issues we get night effects and merging battlegroups and data in a text file for all the COI/WAR/TLD/LSA modders that exist in someones imagination.

you need to fix the major issue before the minor ones: the MG42 and cover problem. and to a slightly lesser extent the aim time on the mortars
