Submarine rescue vessel. Widgeon, Ortolan, Chanticleer - one of those, I think. Ships you often see with a McCann Rescue Bell on the quarter deck; that's what those big booms are for.

It appears to be a Lapwing Class minesweeper.

USS Ortolan (ASR 5). Which was originally a Lapwing Class minesweeper (AM-45).

A good follow-on choice to #46, since Ortolan was responsible for the recovery of that midget. On reflection, that may well be a McCann bell in the water, lashed to the ship's side.
