Hey All.

I am putting together a Case Blue mod with a number of changes mostly graphical. Once I get more familiar with the system, I will make it available as a JSGME.

DONE:
-Soviets are Khaki; Germans are Field Grey; Italians are tan; Hungarians are lighter field grey, Romainians are yellow/green.
-Guards are maroon red.
-artillery units are shown with a white dot center.
-NKVD are dark green with new red star graphic
-Nazi flag 'corrected' at all three levels of zoom
-unit names for SS adjusted (Wik is now Wiking, etc)
-Militia changed from flag to 'Militia"

WORKING ON:
-mechanized showing appropriate nato symbol when attached to Tank Divisions
-Tanks showing appropriate nato symbol when attached to Mechanized Infantry Divisions

Suggestions welcome.

Troy

I'd love to learn how to do this if you figure it out

Just about got it done, finishing up the different levels. Luckily there are some work arounds with nato icons but it would be so much simpler if there was a click to change option for Nato icon in the editor

Use as u like, just give credit

Too funny did the marines like that too!

I have the Mech thing done in big and normal zoom. Small is a bit of a waste IMO.
Not entirely happy with the method but the work around to the Nato choice has it so that the larger Soviet tank formations and the regimental sized German will use the grey/white nato tank icon and the Mech and motor infantry will use the appropriate one.

Thinking about renaming all Soviet and german tank divisions from 16th to 16th Tank Bgd (sov) or 16th Pz Dv (ger) or some such...

Any chance you can change the Division markers (xx) to Regimental Markers while you are doing this project? The colors will only affect the selected scenario you are working on, but the icons will affect the whole game, so add more value IMO...

You guys really should collaborate to produce one mod.

Shouldn't be a problem, I wondered why the Divisional XX instead of Regimental III for the Divisional elements.

Im game High Krausen, you wanna work together?

Im in the middle of a buggy scenario...not too sure why ... seems an AI thing. Maybe I clicked on something by accident...posted it in the tech support section.

Hey All!

I have completed the divisional/regimental changes.

I was looking for feedback as to which counter looks better:

-the same background color as all others regime and different nato.

-different color counter entirely.

(see guards/NKVD counters)

Thanks

Troy

I think same background as the rest of the regime. The red star on red on the 13th doesn't look right to me

My preferred options would be -

Different background colour for Guards and NKVD. (adds some colour for Soviet side to match the Axis multi coloured side)

Don't use the red star in the centre for Gds. (I think this red star would actually be a better symbol than the small yellow star on red in top left?)

Possibly take a pixel or two from the new Regiment insignias (iii) so that they do not touch the top of the box. (although this may then visually clash with the Regiment designations on the side?)

Use the words "NKVD" rather than any symbol for NKVD units. (always found this to look more ominous and imposing in boardgames.)

But apart from that the counter colours and improvements are perfect and you are doing a fantastic job improving the look of the game.

Looking great!

I agree that the Regt symbols need to be a pixel or two less to remove overlap.

Note that you can also edit the lines on the right to read 1, 2, 3 instead.

Look in the Flags folder. You can replace the round 3D flag at top left with anything you like. I made a 2D rectangular flag for my mod. Also, different peoples can have different icons there, so NKVD could use a red star, for example. That way you can lose the star in the center of the unit graphic, which I would support doing.

I also agree that 'NKVD' in place of the NATO icon would look great.

The quick way to mod the division symbols:

1. The game already includes NATO Regt symbol graphics (see symbol #73).

2. Infantry currently use symbol #69 (Div graphic.)

3. Just open up #73 and save it as #69 and the game units will switch to the appropriate symbol autocratically. No editing of images required for that one.

4. For armor use symbol #93 and save as etc...

Perfect graphics every time and only takes 5 minutes :)

Much more authentic looking, I think. I also added Regt icons to the artillery and engineer units. I left the Soviet Tank Corps as they were, since they are only one unit per Corps on the map.

It's also now obvious that an independent Bde is more powerful than a Regt...

Nice work, i am tented to buy the game now and dont wait until next year

Maybe with the NATO symbols is better use colours... for me most important is the symbol to know WHAT unit type is, this is why i dont like add icons over them... colours yes, like in TOAW... maybe you can standarize a colour system, green regular infantry, dark green mountain units, blue paratroopers and/or units made with soldiers from air forces (i think in Luftwaffe infantry divisions, flak units...), gold elite units (guard units, SS units etc etc), white low quality units (militia, security units...), red arty units, yellow cavalry units, pink panzer units and maybe special units like air units, engeniers etc etc with another colour.

Again great job

Hey All!

@redmarkus4: If we can bundle this all together in a single mod, I think it would be best. You have some great work in the picture department. I can handle the NATO dept.

What is complete:

-mechanized showing appropriate NATO symbol when attached to Tank Divisions
-tanks showing appropriate NATO symbol when attached to Mechanized Infantry Divisions
-unit sized now displayed properly on top of counter
-darkened Hungarian forces a bit for text contrast
-changed Hungarian 1st Armoured Div to Motor Infantry NATO
-changed StuG Bns to new armoured artillery NATO
-changed Panzerjagers to new armoured antitank NATO
-changed 1st SS Brigade to Mech Infantry NATO
-changed the regimental bars to not interfere with the NATO icon.
-renamed Panzer/Motorized Divisions from 16th, 24th to 16 mot, 24 PzDiv, etc
-colorized Soviet Airforce to light blue.
-new SS insignia on counter for all Waffen SS.

What needs to be done:

-renaming Soviet Armoured formations.
-MOST IMPORTANT:Figure out how to change NATO symbols for unit NOT placed on the map. Pretty new to the DBCB editor...

Vic?

Troy

Hello Ritterkrieg

Is it possible to fill the axis armour icons with the same background colour of the counter?

Thank you for the great job!

Yes and no. If we want seperate icons for the different regiments in a Division, we have to have a solid colored armor icon. We can change the color to waterver we want BUT this will be shared by both regimes so Field grey will have to work for Soviets too...

How are you getting separate icons for each Regt? Going through every unit on the map and editing each one?

Strange... the file is there but even when I remove it and paste it back in the link won't work. I put the parent folder there and that works (https://dl.dropbox.com/u/29184871/dccbmodgraphics.zip) Unzip this to your graphics/ folder and overwrite.

All of these minor mod features will be part of the next PanzerKrieg release, in case you don't want to bother with them now.

I'm late, but better late than never.
My two cents.
I prefer the less colorful art. The game is already colorful enough. Not everyone likes that.
Too much color, too colorful, thereby the game lose "seriousness".
Often less is more!

I can't understand why Vic has not integrated these authentic, correct regimental characters from the beginning in his games.

Does this mod also work with Decisive Campaigns: Blitzkrieg?

Great work. Thank you.
