Hooray!!!

My prayers have been answered! Total War set in Rome!

Excellent, I can't wait for this - the most promising game after WitP... And out of the blue!

I had heard rumors that this would be next in the Total War series, but didn't believe it... it sounded too good to be true.

Finally the game that I have been waiting for YEARS after seeing Centurion on Amiga :D :D :D Finally the chance to see if I, myself, would be the greatest Caesar of all times

Yup, I saw it too. Wonderful news. The Total War game engine gets better with every outing.

BTW, I think the Total War game engine would be great to do Napoleonic and Civil War games, since they rely on massed formations too.

I would love to see the total war setup translated to the American Civil War

The engine would probably have to be changed pretty drastically, unless it already uses realistic physics and the AI will need a complete overhaul to deal with firearms.

The Green Beret mod for Myth II had a serious problem with rifles; the units behaved as if they still used bows and arrows or lances instead of rifles and such. The result was that they aimed for the spots where arrows would impact instead of bullets, so they hit hillsides rather than the enemies on top of it:

The AI aside I don't think that the Total War engine has the physics incorporated for the use of artillery and rifles. It's probably easier to make similar games first, maybe one in the New World with Aztecs, Mayas and Incas. I think that fans are going to do mods for modern settings though.
