Well... here we are at the field drill in one of the pacific islands where the USArmy and the USMC are fighting their yearly match.

Lots of money spent on bets. :D :D :D

Gentlemen, will some of you guess the odds??? ;)

In the first turn the Army opens with a massive artillery barrage. The Marines are saving their ammo.

Artur.

Opening Arty barrage bagged a Jar-head .30 Cal jeep and sent some recon scrambling back towards Mommy. (Why is it every time I picture my enemy I see the name VikingNo2??)

Bulldogs seized the high ground and the corresponding V-hexes in the center with a platoon of Stuarts, looks like we will be playing "King of the Hill" in this match.

P-39 Airacobra flies over the Marine positions, getting the attention of some AAA emplacements, then drops it's package on the "hill" startling a Stuart and bagging some of it's cargo.

My fine Army soldiers advance towards their objectives on all fronts

Some reconing operations on both sides. Killed a scout car. An air attack was made against my Stuarts on the central hill. One Stuart destroyed. When the plane climbed away it was taken down by the air defence. Extra Brandy and cigar rations distributed among the gun crew.

Artur.

Not to be outdone by the Gyrines, the Army air-defenders bring down a plane of their own, and contribute to another one missing it's target.

Recon is out in force on both sides, with the Army bagging 2 snipers and a Jeep.

Long range fires from a Sherman split a Staurt open, and supress a 37mm AA gun that moved a little too close.

A pair of Stuarts overwatch on a hill overlooking the Southern V-hexes, they both have USMC recon in escort. They think they are hiding behind the smoke, but I am betting they bug out as I take some of the Southern V-hexes, and move up my security forces with the intent of a long stay.

Marines in the Central V-hexes realise that being on top of the hill also means they can be seen by everyone all around, and slide off on the reverse slope.

Army artillery begins round 2, while the Marine indirect remains strangely silent??

Finally heard from the Marine Artillery this turn, fortunately most of it just shredded the jungle.

Took out a Staurt with an 81mm Mortar barrage:D

Other Marine casualties this turn included two additional snipers, a .30 Cal Jeep, and I severely wounded three Recon patrols.

Those two Stuarts on the Southern hill turned into three (mortar brought that back to two), did not think that they would stay put behind the smoke, but they did. Betting they are burninig hulks on my next turn. Took the remainder of the southern V-hexes, and recon is checking out the Northern and Central V-hexes. Army Artillery preps to cut loose with 3rd Fire mission.

Killed a recon patrol and a scout car. That mortar really hit the hell out of my Stuart. The southern hill is attacked by Shermans and halftrucks. I have only Stuarts to oppose them.
Shermans against Stuarts seem like the fight of David and Goliath:rolleyes: .

Artur.

Hear, hear! for Goliath:D

Captured the Southern and Central V-hexes, moving up towards the Northern set as well.

Ran into some main line forces (have I penetrated the recon screan already? Something is fishy here and I think I am being baited as my opponent is asking that there be no reinforcements allowed. I am inclined to push the issue). Killed a Boys AT rifle team and roughed up some Marine "D" squads before a couple more planes flew over in search of my Arty parks in the rear. One plane roughed up one of my mortars pretty good while the other killed a Dodge command vehicle. Both planes made it away safely (my AAA gunners were not so lucky this time)

Some skirmishes in the north. Killed a scout car, a recon patrol 2 HTs and a Serman. Lost a jeep and casualties to several inf squads.

And nothing is fishy, Marines lack almost all machanized equipment.

Artur.

Cleaned out some recon elements from around the South and Central V-hexes. The Marines have beaten me to the Northern V-hexes, and that is where the close in fighting is at its heaviest. Cost me a sherman to a Marine assault. Army calls in some artillery to soften the Bulldogs up a little bit.

Killed 2 X 37mm AA guns, and crippled a third. Added injury to a number of marine line squads.

I hold the southern and Central V-hexes, while the Marines hold the Northern V-hexes.

Skirmishes along all fronts, with some minor casualties going to the marines.

I killed a couple of more 37mm AA guns, and seriously wounded a third (I think that is a total of six so far)

The marines are not saving the artillery ammo any more. The Jungle is being torn to shreds around the Southern V-hexes with 155, and 75mm. Luckily for me, most of it is hitting only the vegitation.

Heavy fighting in the north and in the south. Killed cca 4 Shermans and some recon in the north, A HT in the south and routed some engineer squads. Lost a marine squad and a Stuart and some other marine squads had casulties.

Lots of Shermans are coming with halftrucks full of engineers on all fronts. :( :( :(

My opponent scouts with armored scout cars and the can take several hits.:o I will use them in my next match that is sure.;)

Artur.

My opponent has chosen to cover the Jungle floor with Infantry. It is like the North Koreans assaulting with the Chineese at Chosin.

I am mowing down marines as fast as I can fire, but the limited line of site in the jungle aids his gaming approach, and my Shermans suffer in the close assaults. No wonder he tried to restrict reinforcements!! With Arty set at the limits, machine is no match for the wall of flesh. The Center V-hexes are surrounded by some jungle openings, and I exploit them and KO two more 37mm AA guns. In the South the Marine hordes advance, and I do my best to hold the line. The V-hexes in the North are in Marine hands, and I am taking heavy losses, I respond with what little Arty I have.

I am moving to my liquer cabinet, to wash out what so far has been a very sour WC experience.:(

Heavy fighting in the north and in the center. Skirmishes in the south.
Killed an engineer squad and 2 Shermans in the north. The third one survived some more then 5 assaults. lost one Stuart-crew bailed out. Several squads damaged.
Killed 2 shermans in the center. The hero of the day is an Immobilized Stuart which killed a sherman from distance. Very lucky shot.
Lost another Stuart in the south.
I estimate __at least__ 10 shermans remaining.

My losses are very heavy. As the marines used to have I suppose.

The engineers if they have a chance to use their flamethrowers they can wipe out a whole squad.

About the reinforcements. It was proposed for speeding the game up, we used that in my previous game. I object to any other reason.

Artur.

Killed 2 shermans in the north . Almost killed my Stuart in the south. I clicked in the wrong hex. Fortunately the waiting sherman missed. :)

I see a screen of 10 Shermans and lots of halftucks coming at us in the center and in the south.:( :( :(

Not to mention, that the marine commander got sick from maleria (well almost maleria, a flu with high fever) :o

Artur.

Extremely heavy losses suffered by the Army in the North, are offset by limited success in pushing the marines back in the center and the south.

Killed 2 shermans in the south and routed some engineer squads. Lost one Stuart to a sherman and another one to a 80 mm mortar in the north and killed a halftruck.
Being badly pushed back in the center with cca. 7 shermans + some halftrucks.
At the end of the turn a massive air attack was performed by the army. One plane shot down.
In my opponent's turn the shermans survive countless assaults.

Losses are heavy.

Artur.

I continue to push back Marines in the South and Center.

My own Air Force shoots at my armor this turn!!

The North is a total loss, or a mission for reserves.

Killed 2 shermans in the south, immobilized the third one.
Killed a HT in the center. Losses heavy as usual.

It is 15 Sherman kills as a total.:D .
But I wonder how many has he now. I estimate around 10. :( :( :(

This is very hard fighting.

Artur.

With heavy losses I work on holding what I have. Reinforcements called will ensure that objective is met.

Heavy artillery is falling on us in the south.

I hold the Center and the South, although I have been pushed back quite a ways in the South.

I am making a move in what appears to be a soft Center. Just might have enough to grab the rear V-hexes from the Gyrines. We will see.
