Does UNREP only work at auto speed which is 15KT?

Attached example.

1. Ungrouped CV & AOE, CV ordered to UNREP. CV chases after AOE.

2. TF1 @ 5KT ordered CV to UNREP in unit mode, CV manual speed 5KT, AOE races to CV and unloads 2-3 missiles in 22-30 min and heads back to formation.

3. TF2 @ 5KT ordered CV to UNREP in unit mode, and unchecked manual speed on CV. CV speeds up to 15KT, 25-35 min later starts to unload and finishes 3.5-4 hours. That is normal.

Is this a WAD? Seems strange that it would give me a few missiles in manual mode.

BTW the missiles are AIM-120A's and AIM-64C's.

[the test was set up for auto speed on TF1 ]
I just load the test scenario, pressed start, and watched the CVN start replenishing as shown:

[ Loaded test again, changed TF1 to 5kts. Requested CVN to replenish]
The screen shows that it wanted to replenish 208 items. But once it got to 206, it stopped replenishing.

I have taken the poster's original test, and configured a save that has the TF and CVN at manual speed so dev can get in and see what is happening.
CVN will say it wants 214 items, but finishes after 212 items.

Additional tests:
If you take the CVN off manual speed, while TF is still set to 5 kts, the TF will go auto and it will replenish fine.
Not sure if there is some sort of minimum speed required for at sea replenishing.

I guess my point is that UNREP can only happen at speeds above >13-15KT. And not using manual control. Anytime there is manual control things get unpredictable.

This is very similar to me as ATA refueling logics. I can successfully do it if the AC are not set at any manual speed control.

I'm thinking its a WAD but the means to accomplish them isn't clearly laid out.

In the attached SCEN. All units are set at 5KT or creep. I have one group ( the western one) that isn't grouped and another group TF1 that's just a CV & AOE. TF2 is a CV,AOE, and some escorts.

In the western example, if I tell the CV to UNREP at its manual speed setting it will chase the AOE and never hook up. When I check off the manual box on the CV it will get to the AOE and do its thing but at 15 KT.

TF1 (the middle group) is set at 5KT. I go to unit view select CV and order UNREP, I leave the manual control box ticked at 5KT. In 22-35 min the AOE will speed up to CV, I get a.message that its in replenish. Mode x amounts items left. Then it stops, the AOE gets back in formation and the group continues on. When you check CV's mag. it has a few missiles replen'd. All of this happens in less than 40min.

On TF2 (eastern TF) I go to unit view select CV, order, UNREP, UNCHECK manual speed, CV speeds to +14KT, AOE speeds up to meet her about a 1/2 hour later and replen starts and completes in about 3-4 hours. Once complete the group continues at 15KT.




Does this clear things up?

Was just trying this the other day and came up on this website http://military.wikia.com/wiki/Underway_replenishment

A snippet

"The supplying ship holds a steady course and speed, generally between 12 and 16 knots. Moving at speed lessens relative motion due to wave action and allows better control of heading"

"Alongside connected replenishment is a risky operation, as two or three ships running side-by-side at speed must hold to precisely the same course and speed for a long period of time. From RL experience, I would say 10kt is the minimum for an FFG sized ship to do RAS/UNREP. Every time I've been on a ship doing a RAS it's always been at around 10-15 kts, and I think that is mostly to negate the effects of swell and wind (although I'm pretty sure it was always steered into the wind).

It's somewhat counter-intuitive but the faster the ship is going, the smoother the ride to a large extent. If we were doing something delicate in the sick bay we'd ask the OOW to minimise pitch & roll. This would result in them steering into the wind and increasing speed.
