Hi folks, I've just finished playing Baptism of fire scenario and I would like to share some impressions with you. This scenario is set in Russia, dec. '42. I played as GE and I had to rescue GE and IT troops which were about to be attacked by superior SO forces. Russians were attacking from north and east, throwing in loads of infantry squads, tanks and cossacks. Tanks were of the T-34 type, but I wonder why there are T-34 mod. 43 which are supposed to appear as late as Nov. '43. (oversight or tweak to make the scenario more balanced?) Germans had Mark IIIJs and IVGs but, still, they were taking out T-34s a bit too easily for my tastes. Even Italian troops behaved well (Breda MG made a good job at sweeping the crowded ridge before their trenches) and were enough 'resilient'. Since I'm italian, I feel proud by this (Carabiniere try this one and let me know your impressions!) The scenario ended with a german marginal victory, with a score ratio o 3 (GE scored 3933, and SO 1306). Besides this I found Soviets to pull back a bit too much, after having lost about 30% of a squad's men or so. (My experience shosw that they are still there after sustaining more than 50% losses). Again, how can it be? Anyway, I don't mean to look too much fastidious, indeed I liked this scenario very much! There's anyone out there who has played this scenario as a soviet? A would like to receive someone else's experience. Bye Luf

I believe the author of the scenarios is Brent "Grenadier" Richards. Why not write him directly and get his thoughts, encourage him to post them here? I think it would be a great idea! brentr@matrixgames.com Wild Bill ------------------ In Arduis Fidelis Wild Bill Wilder Coordinator, Scenario Design Matrix Games

My comments are below each one of yours. I have redone this scenario to use the new VO types and have assigned unit objedctives to all except the units on the train as they are just arriving and have not been given any orders yet. The new version is 2 turns longer. It will be posted on Tankheads site [QUOTE]Originally posted by Luf: [B]Hi folks, I've just finished playing Baptism of fire scenario and I would like to share some impressions with you. When I purchased the tank companies they had a mix including M43's I did not change it at the time because of deadlines Germans had Mark IIIJs and IVGs but, still, they were taking out T-34s a bit too easily for my tastes. They should. They were elite gunners from the Fuhrewr Begliet at Rastenburg. Even Italian troops behaved well (Breda MG made a good job at sweeping the crowded ridge before their trenches) and were enough 'resilient'. Since I'm italian, I feel proud by this (Carabiniere try this one and let me know your impressions!) The Italians were being led by German officers and had a common cause of survival. many Italian units fought well once they were put into mixed kampfgruppes led by German officers. The scenario ended with a german marginal victory, with a score ratio o 3 (GE scored 3933, and SO 1306). The new one should be more balanced and end in more draws Besides this I found Soviets to pull back a bit too much, after having lost about 30% of a squad's men or so. Glad tyou enjoyed it. Let me know what you think of the new version ------------------ Grenadier Matrix Games Technical Writer
