Status: offline 		Can't quite make out the crest on the shoulder of one guy who has the (apparent) Kiska invasion shoulder patch on the other shoulder... but it MIGHT be the patch from the 87th Mountain Combat Team... here is the original Kiska patch:

Status: offline 		OK - on further research, i am guessing these are CANADIAN troops, from either the 6th or 7th Infantry Division, although the Devils Brigade was involved so maybe they could be from that... the Canadians wore nets on their helmets in the operation - here is a shot of Canadian troops on board ship about to invade Kiska

There is also a disc shaped piece of equipment with fabric or canvas cover saying "US" (canteen maybe).

At least one soldier has waterproof waders. The tone of the uniforms look GI to me.

And it looks cold. US 7th ID maybe?

From pics i've found, it looks like (unlike the ETO) the Canadians were using a lot of US equipment, including uniform items (helmets and the like)... the First Special Services Force (FSSF, aka Devil's Brigade (although i don't think they had that name until later)) was a joint US-Canadian force, and so would have a mixture of troops... this was their first "combat" operation.

Status: offline 		As long as we are identifying stuff : those are M-1 Garands, and there is an M-1 Carbine lying above/to the right of a shovel/entrenching tool cover (marked "US").

i am not sure what the regular Canadians were armed with, the from the pics i've seen, the rifles didn't look like M-1 Garands (although the pics lacked detail)... i don't think that excludes the FSSF, though.

Also, the guy in front is wearing a hooded cover that looks like some of the equipment that the 87th Regiment (ski troops) wore.

EDIT: oh yeah, those are M-1 helmets as well.

EDIT: ACK! that is from the 187th Regiment, not the 87th...

Of course, the insignia of the FSSF was a spearhead, although i thought i had read that it wasn't adopted until after Kiska... however, i don't see that reference at the moment... the helmet marking doesn't look quite the same, but still...

Here is a picture of (one of the?) famous coffee-brewing dogs with US troops - notice the nets on the helmets for US troops here.

I beleave the Helement on Radar has a Cross on it, he might be a Chaplin, and he does apear to be without a gun.
