My google-fu is pretty weak today, both here and google proper. Searches haven't turned up any answers.

I'm looking for a way to start a galaxy and just watch the AI play itself. Ideally with no human player as I don't want to depend on keeping it alive, but I don't see a way to do that. I can turn on full automation, but I don't see a way to reveal the whole galaxy. I want to see everything as it happens...not just from the pov of one empire. Has this question been asked before? As close to pure AI vs. AI as possible.

Thanks

Just set all of your policies to "Fully Automate". The AI will take over all functions of your empire.

Yeah, but he wants to see the events throughout the whole galaxy unfolding, not just from his empire's pov. I don't see anyway to do that, other than dip into the editor from time to time.

Thanks for the answers. I ended up doing exactly what VestedGamr suggests and it's a fine substitute. I do wonder if the devs have a godmode though for AI testing. Over the years I've found games like these usually have them in there somewhere for automated testing. *shrugs*

LOL my PC cringes at the thought of the sheer data flow in GodMode with a fully involved 1400 star galaxy.

1400 stars
~20K Planets and Moons
~200K Asteroids
Couple hundred space Monsters
Probably 500K skips between military, pirate, wrecks and civilian.

The only way to make a psuedo god mode I can think of involves some messy hacks. First make a new component based on the long range scanner but change the range to stupid levels to you can scan the entire galaxy with it. Secondly make the scanner available through a new tech that only your race can access and set it as a starting tech. If you felt like it you could then do the same for a couple of other things such as monster shields, other defences. After that go into the editor mode and stick yourself a colony at the center of the galaxy and destroy your old colony. Then just use the editor to turn your home system into something that even the mechanoids would tremble at, after that point sit back and turtle watching everything unfold around you, just avoid all contacts etc with any other race and turn off all communications.

It would not give you a real view as obviously your own empire will effect how things work and other races diplomacy etc. But it is as close as I can think of within the confines of the game.

A godmode would be information overflow quite fast :)

During testing, I have run a lot of fully automated games with the major target of finding a crash. It has given the chance to observe early game AI issues in pre warp, and also general AI issues in later game as the galaxy is filled with colonies.

One key component in this is in options/empire options and is called 'suppress all popups' (or something close to that).

To really get a feel about AI performance, I would suggest to play games that are quite heavily automated. That way it is easier to actually nail down what is being done, even if things like automated diplomacy had some major shortcomings the single time I tried that.
