Hyderabad has a garrison requirement of 60. (GC , stock scenario 1). I stationed the 70th British Inf Division there as it had an AV of 60. At least it did when I made that move. Last turn it was showing an AV of 59. What would cause this drop in AV ? There was no activity of any kind in this hex.

Check the TOE vs the actual devices for that division. IIRC that one is mostly engineers and has very little AV - and there are no regiments that can join it to fill out the thing to a real division.

If a unit arrives with devices it is not supposed to have, I think some of them can be returned to the pools in a large enough city, or if there is a TOE upgrade and there are not enough of the new devices to replace the old ones that were withdrawn. Watch the recon units like Patiala Lancers very closely - their upgrade strips almost all of the AV and gives them just a few replacements.

Also, is that base in a malaria hex? If so, you could be having squads damaged by that unseen mechanic in the game.

I don't have my manual handy ATM, so some else might be able to explain it a bit better or correct me if I am wrong.

Almost none of India is malarial - certainly not Hyderabad.

When I checked the hex again, I saw that one of the Vickers MG squads was disabled. Would that be the cause of the loss of 1 AV ? Not sure how a squad gets disabled when they are just sitting there doing nothing? Perhaps the Gorn was right with his theory? This division is in Strat mode. Would that have an impact ?

Yes, 1 fighting squad (infantry, MG, combat eng, cavalry, AFV) disabled means 1 AV gets deducted from the Assault Value of the unit.

Maybe not the visit to the "seamstresses" per se, but malaria was not the only disease rampant in India where poor people had no access to medical assistance and little health education. I have no idea if the programmers built some effects into the game to reflect health issues in poor, heavily populated cities.
