If you already own Command, you can just install NI over the top off it - change install directory to where you installed original command.
This will retain any additional files (like DB pictures etc) from original command that you may have downloaded.

The install was very confusing… I now have two versions of CMANO.... What would be the easiest way to combined them now.... I guess I can drag all my files from my original game over to the new one…

If someone has a better suggestion... I would love to hear it…

I'm in the same boat. They do seem to be in the same directory folder but I have no way of playing the Northern Inferno scenarios right now.

I have Command and purchased NI. I installed NI and I now have two separate game icons. Is this what is expected. FYI, both games are functioning properly.

Yes, this is normal. They are treated as two distinct apps by the OS even though they use the same folder.

The installer file for NI and full-CMANO is the same, you simply use different serial numbers.

Gents-

Bought Command: Northern Inferno. Thought that I should update Command MANO to v1.092, Build 757.21 first before installing Northern Inferno.

Note: My most recent CMANO update was Comprehensive Patch v1.08

> Extracted v1.092 to the main Command Directory, which includes a new executable. When the game is started- either with the desktop icon or directly from the .exe, there is an error report "this could be a bug"

> Also- down loaded Northern Inferno (a "dlapp.jsp" file); when double clicked a windows message appears stating that windows does not know which program to open the file with. A second download attempt ended with a "unable to download file" message.

I suspect an error on my part; any help would be greatly appreciated.

My Thanks to Warfare Sims for this expansion to an awesome game.

Waiting Hopefully in Denver,

Mac Linehan

You need to update to 1.09 first before applying the 1.09x patches. The 1.09 version is basically a full install which can over overwrite your existing CMANO - user files (like images, community scenarios) will be kept in this case.

Just key in the serial numbers into the appropriate boxes when requested during the install.

Michael!

Am so pleased that you are involved with the Command Series.

EDIT:

Got the 1.09 Final "Wargame of the Year" installed into it's own (not the original CMANO) directory, and added the Inferno file;
patched to v1.092. Everything runs just fine.

Note: After a good night's rest, I reread the above posts; and finally got it. Thanks for your patience and help.

Trust that all is well with you, Sir!

Mac

I've tried to get the game running after some period of inactivity, and unfortunately I'm not satisfied with the results.

First I tried to update the original installation of CMANO, but it couldn't update to 1.09 because downloading the patch from your FTP failed all the time. Reinstalling the original doesn't help, because the download link Matrix Games sends you is for 1.02 version, and it predictably fails on update as well.

Then I've installed Northern Inferno (1.09), and it recognized my initial copy of Command, but it can't update either because of the same problem with FTP. I'm seeing the updater trying to connect to an IP in France. This address pings fine.

In addition, it has another problem with launching the updater from game's launcher. The error message is as follows: "Windows cannot find '\update.exe'. Make sure you've typed the name correctly, then try again." Maybe it's just me, but I think there are two dots missing in that path. This is not critical of course, since I can run update.exe manually.

Lastly, I wanted to ask: when doing clean installation, do you need to install the original Command before Northern Inferno? It appears that just installing the latter and providing your original command serial gets you the full game.

Hi, I just purchased NI. My CMANO is at 1.11, and the download for NI at 1.09. If I download NI and install would I have to re update to 1.10 then to 1.11?
And another one. Is it the download mandatory or it can be activated from the CMANO UI? I see already present the list of scenarios of NI but they ask to license the game.

Thank you

I did this yesterday and after consulting tech support (and receiving an extraordinarily quick response) it was necessary to install the v1.10 patch if you have it. Enter the NI user code at the prompt below the CMANO access code when the update window opens, execute the update, then apply the latest v1.11RC6 on top and all should be well. Otherwise you'll have to go with the v1.09 download and execute the last two updates.

Had hoped that there was a way to just input the NI access code into the UI but it requires the update window where the user codes are entered, probably not unreasonably.

I did this and NI overwrote the game menu setup for CMANO. Now I only have the quick launch for CMANO and the game menu shortcut for NI. I think NI should have been put in it's own directory. Now I have to install shortcuts for the manuals and update feature. The NI install program should not default to the CMANO directory it seems to me. Am I wrong? I can be ignorant at times...

Once you have CMANO installed, NI is just an extra set of files that get added to Scenario and Database image/descriptions.
That is all I did:
Installed CMANO;
Added NI when released.
It is all in one base game directory.

I am getting back to CMANO/NI, and sorting out a reinstall. I had previously installed NI after CMANO, and had it working. But going back to update today, I had repeated FTP errors. So I figured I'd just start from scratch. I gather from this thread that I only need one or the other installation files (the main 3.6GB file and the 175KB update file) but not both sets (they are the same). So after I install, and input my serial number for both CMANO and NI, then I have access to both with just one .exe/launcher/shortcut, is that correct? Or will I be launching CMANO and NI separately? I see posts about having two or losing one etc.

EDIT: I just went ahead and activated my Steam Key and let it take care of the installation. It's still a bit weird having two programs installed now - CMANO and NI are separate in Steam, they each have a custom launcher, yet they launch the same program and have all the same features (and the NI campaign is available the same way through either). It would be nice if they were merged and only had one launcher - like the other DLC ("Live" scenarios - which, again, are available through either). In the end, it gets the job done!
