I'm doing the Allies, date is July 42. I just noticed that the the supply situation of Soviet bases on Sakhalin steadily deteriorated, now being status red. The only thing I did was to transfer the planes to the mainland, let the troops rest and turned replacements and upgrades on. It's a long time till the automatic activation of the Soviets in Aug 45. Will the guys on Sakhalin be left to starve or is there any way to prevent it?

I left the Soviet forces alone - no aircraft transfers or anything. I set them all to building bases or forts. All aircraft are training 100%.
There are no supply issues with any Soviet bases and TOEs are being gradually filled out, upgrades of field artillery too.
What difficulty setting and mod/scenario are you playing?

Nr 10 Ironman nasty. In my last game I didn't care about the Soviets till June 45. I don't rembember if there were any supply problems.
This time I intended to prepare the Soviets much better and did the same things you did. I'm ashamed to admit I'm only doing the historical level. I didn't build up the bases or forts on Sakhalin, because I feared to drain the supply storage there. Only the Sakhalin bases Okha and Alexandrowsk are affected. On the main land everything is fine.

If you would have built up the bases, they might have asked for more supplies.

The Soviets don't have jack sh_t for supply even after they activate in late '45.

I was forced to ship thousands upon thousands of tons of supply to the Russkies from SanFran for them to be able to launch their offensive to overrun Manchuria and Korea.

Check on the isolated bases up north - including Petropavlosk. In my last ironman game some of the little base forces up there dispersed because they ran out of supplies.

There is a big Soviet resupply convoy in about June 1945 in Vladivostok, but it does nothing for the isolated bases. The US can't send supplies before the Soviets activate. Modders should probably put in an occasional small convoy in those ports to keep them alive.

If you were using an editable scenario I would suggest you edit the scenario file to add 100 supply a day to those locations.

But if it is scenario 10 you're stuck. Look on the bright side, you'll get a couple of extra VVS outpost bases to use in Manchuria.

Sounds like Ironman is the difference. I am playing scenario 1 so the supply is more plentiful (so far).

Patch #1 addressed this Soviet issue. However added supply is not meant to allow filling out of TOEs prior to Soviet activation.

???

Kind of strange since my X-mother-in-law (WAAF) was personally involved in the transfer of aircraft to the Soviet Union through Alaska. She even had some photos of herself with some Russian pilots. The aircraft were for the purpose of fighting the Germans.

Just ask Lowpe and/or Obvert what happened when the Japanese sent supplies to the Soviets.

I'll try tentatively to transport supply to Petropavlovsk. I'll keep you informed about the outcome.

PS: It is clear that if you (playing Japan) violate Soviet territory prior to Aug 45 (even when only unloading supply accidentially), you gonna activate them.
But that has nothing to do with the intention to supply the Soviets by their allies.

That was through Lend Lease, a different thing as far as this game goes.

Okay...tried to set the supply TF's destination to Petropavlovsk. I got the message: "TF CANNOT MOVE TO INACTIVE SOVIET BASE!!"
That settles it.

Use an amphibious TF and dump them on the shore. Just as Lowpe how to do that . . .

I really did not expect it, but I was able to unload an amphib TF (consisting of one AKL) directly at Petropavlovsk!
So it is possible to bring supply to the not activated Soviets.
Unfortunately this does not solve my supply problem on Sakhalin, because I'll never get through the Kurile Islands in Oct 1942...

You could try sub transport or an FT transport with all those former four-stacker APDs.

Good idea with the sub transport! I'm quite pessimistic about the chances of the APDs to get in/out alive, I will need them in the South Pacific.

The APDs were of great use for me in the South Pacific when I lost most of my carriers and had to change my tactics to regain lost bases there.
Because the Japanese had the air supremacy I landed Base Forces at dot bases and built them up to gain air supremacy by land air bases.
For these tactics the APDs are perfect, because they unload overnight and normally are out of air danger on their way to and back from the target base.

That data base change seems to have been reversed in the ironman scenario set.

quote:

7. A number of remote Soviet bases did not have local supply generation, which leads to
them eventually running out of supplies. Sufficient local supply generation has been
added to these bases to ensure that they do not run out. In addition, excess resources
and oil has been disabled to prevent these from building up to huge stockpiles. The
affected bases are “Anadyr” (158,30), “Magadan” (138,32), “Petropavlovsk”
(141,44), “Alexandrovsk” (126,41), “Okha” (128,37).
