Hi all. "Long time listener, first time caller . . ."

Playing as the Japanese in scenario #2 v. AI, I sent 5 solo minesweepers to Hong Kong to clear mines, and 3 solo mine layers to Manilla to hopefully affect subs/shipping. A couple turns later I get the message:

Minelayer X has sunk
Minelayer Y has sunk
Minelayer Z has sunk
. . . and so on - no battle screen

next turn:

Minesweeper X has sunk
. . . and so on

There were no battle reports or combat summaries for these sinkings.

Anybody know what is going on? My only guess is they got blown out by coastal guns; that you can not conduct mine warfare in enemy occupied port unless you go with escorts. Anybody know what I am doing wrong?

Page 106 of manual says you can clear the mines from an adjacent hex. Havn't tried it yet but this seems to be the way to go if you want to stay away from those CD's. I would have thought that you would get a combat report if the CD's fired on you.

You got too close to the Battan CD guns. I had the same thing happen and I controlled Manilla. Looking at the map I guess that the CD guns can cover the entrance to Manilla bay from Battan.

There are no combat reports for CD guns firing only a sound effect and ship sinking notices.

It appears on the combat report but not during the turn. It is on the 'to do' list of Matrix if I understood well.

UV times are over, CD guns are really dangerous now, you have to supress them before sialing under their noses.

That's what they were there for.

It was the coastal guns that got you, they are looking at adding the message to the combat reports and scroll down screen in the patch

Thanks for the feedback.

And coastal guns covering a narrow passage . . . cool!
