That's why it's called the Mariana's Turkey Shoot!

Speaking of turkey's, I'm burnt out on Thanksgiving leftovers!

<Nitpicking mode on>

I think Frances appears way too early operationally in this game. I think no Frances-es were operational during the historic Marianas shootout. Not that it matters, with CAP and EXP values like these...

On the other hand, Peggy bomber appears too late.

</Nitpicking mode off>

Nice hit on the Yorktown A bit costly though

O.

I did shoot down 75 hellcats that day... .. so when my next "wave" (30 planes all shot down) hit the cap it was down to 175 hellcats.. woohoo ..

In technical terms this is reffered to as "A target rich enviornment".

The sad thing is that the one torp hit only caused 4-5 sys damage. Falling aircraft debris and flak that came back down probably was the real cause and it was just chalked up as a torp hit.

This kind of result is really worrying, unless all the japanese pilots had low xp.

Did the japanese ever have such numerical superiority?

I've tried that scenario as IJ a half a dozen times, and that looks pretty familiar. Except for that torpedo hit on Yorktown. Never did score on any of ship in a CVTF.

Experience ratings for IJ LBA are in the 40s and 50s. Garbage. The naval aviation is not so bad, especially CarDiv1, 70s-80s. But they are so badly outnumbered that it doesn't matter.

One thing I didn't try was to let the USN strike first, put up 100% CAP. Probably wouldn't make any difference though.

That is a great scenario as USN. Not because of the inevitable bunny-stompin' carrier battle, but because of the opportunity it gives you to practice a 90-day amphibious campaign against tough ground opposition.

The thing is you do get better results with 100% CAP. You shoot down a fair share of Hellcats (but never enough) and bombers but the cost is immence. What you are left with is bomber crews in 70s and 80s and 10 Zekes to escort them with. Anyway, with good crews Japs can amount to something but it can only be done in a big scenario. There is just not enough flexibility in the Marianas scenario to make a difference no matter what you do. In the meantime, get used to such outcomes. After all, as Halsey said, thet's why they called it the Turkey shoot...
