In my pbem with TheElf, we having a fierce battle for Port Moresby. After two weeks of combat, I decided to land despite of strong air opposition.
My transport TF are at 1 hex on Port Moreby the previous turn. So I move to land, encounter mine field, destroyed some PT boat.
BUT my transport don't land any troops, are back to their original place and their speed is now 0/0 . So it is a bug or not?

Even if on patrol/do not retire the TF commander will sometimes make the decision to retire if his aggression is low and he feels the situation's a bit too hot for his liking.

Francois,
The only thing I can think of is that as you entered the PM hex with your landing TF one of the PT boats was still there. I'm not sure, but I think ALL surface combatants HAVE to be cleared from an opposing forces base hex BEFORE your troops can land.

Also, I can't find my manual, but even a Transport TF that has orders to Patrol/Do not retire, may fail a morale check after a beating like your guys took from my LBA.

These two things combined may have caused your Transport TF skipper to say" Adios, I'm out!" and headed for his base hex.

The TF speed is likely 0/0 because so many APs were Dead in the water. Not sure though.

i've also had problems with invasion fleet. Inv. fleet (escorted with several dd's and one ca) was ordered to invade Menado. Inv. TF was stationed two hex east, but for the two next turns, did not moved at all.

I guess that opponents PT's (based in Menado base hex)prevent movement towards base, but i'm not sure. Then i sent dd TF which engaged three PT's, sink one, and next turn my invasion fleet finally moved to the Menado.

So it is very interesting situation, especially when i noticed that rest two PT stayed in the hex but not engaged my invasion fleet or prevent landings...?

This has hapened to me (with force Z refusing to engage). The other posible problem is that all of the air attacks may have used up all of the opp points of your transports leaving them unable to unload.

I think this is a case of 'morale check' failure by your TF commander.... Closing the airfield may help in this case or providing some LRCAP. Even if the latter is unefficient, it may be enough to keep the TF in the hex.

Another strategy will be to send a surface TF in the same hex, so they will draw part of the attack.

I don't think that in your case the PT boat was the cause of the withdrawal, as it was sunk during the turn. But the aerial attacks did a lot of damage. The 0/0 speed is probably due to the most damaged ships in your TF.

If you look at the combat report, there were 2 PT boats in the PM hex. One was sunk by the an invasion TF already in the PM hex during the night phase, the other PT boat was sunk during a daytime Surface combat action by the Invasion TF in question AFTER it took a beating by my LBA. I don't know. I think there are several invasion TFs. My screen i sred with smatterings of blue and brown behind it. Lots of TFs...

I have looked for a value in regards to moral for the commander and/or crew of a ship. Is this a hidden value, and if so why?

LCU's and aircraft have a visible moral value, why not ships?

Based on the above posts can any of the resident experts on this forum give us a definitive answer on this? I would like to continue playing this PBEM normally but would prefer to do so with the concurrence of my opponent, and his blessing.

Hi, When a transport TF encounters enemy surface TF it backs up 1 hex.

After your response, you now continue the pbem. And as the all allied ships have been sunk now, the landing was succesful.
