-An interesting idea to be added to TOAW would be a more restricted shock rule. The shock rule apllies to all the forces of one given side, however, it´s possible that not all forces would be affected by a surprise attack. For instance, if you are attempting to simulate the WWII European front in 1939, a low shock value for Poland would not imply necessarily in a low shock vaule for France or Britain. The attack on Pearl Harbor was a suprise to Americans but probably had no effect on Chinese forces and so on. It would be possible to select the units to be affected by shock by creating a restricted shock event and choosing the units to be "shocked". This should allow us to simulate the poorer performance of some allied forces operationg together (for instance Germany vs Italy). What do you think?

Great idea. Want to make sure formation- as well as unit-level shock events exist.

Question: Why does the new Italian Navy have glass bottom boats?

Answer: So they can see the old Italian Navy as sail around the Mediterrranean.

Question: What does the Italian army and soccer team have in common?

Both got their asses kicked by Ethiopia.

Hi all,

Localized shock ---- great idea. Could add multiple forces with specific replacement rates, loss tolerances per force etc. etc.
The jokes however........... tsk tsk

Rob.

Certianly I like the idea of of localized shock. Another way I would like to see it be possible to implement it would be to have it be done in the editor. So for example one could designate a hex and have all forces in a certian radius of one side or the other suffer shock.

This allows one to simulate something like the collapse of a particuler part of the front without having players move formations getting a shock benifit another theatre where the shock effects should not apply.

That's no good. In order to have been sunk, the Italian navy would have had to have left port at some point....

With this effect, it would be neat if it could decline over distance. So at the epicentre it might be 80% shock. Five hexes away, 90%. Ten hexes away, 95%, etc.

This is being discussed on the SZO forums as we speak. The idea(s) thus far are to have theatre specific (EF instead of all of Europe, etc) shock, and shock applicable to formations.

All the different things we're looking for impact on one another;

If we get a more heirachical approach to OOBs, then shock could be applied at any level of that structure. Army, Corps, Division, whatever.

Exactly - but it becomes harder to fully devlop an idea until we know which direction the game is going to take. As you say, they are very inter-dependant.
