A few things as I seldom say much so it will not hurt, But I am sure someone will shoot me down anyway! Tough!!!

The hack at the Depot:
Ok Bernie is on it and so apparently are other enforcement bodies. This though is not the end of the world.
Yes possibly a lot of useful information may have been damaged and lost. This just means people will have to dig again and get it back, possible with less “heavy discussion. It is work but still has to be done to get things back on track.

Why it happened, it unfortunately an issue between Bernie and the service provide. I am not being critical of either as I don’t know the situation.
Yes it sucks but as anyone in any force will know “s*** happens” get on with the job, that is us.

Someone here said and equated the MG forums as a life boat.
Simply what crap! All the various sites dealing with SPWAW are there for all and not to provide backup for you favourite site.
You should be participating to an extent on all. AND yes I do to an extent. I don’t post here often but I do read what has been said and covered.

So do you really bother with Matrix, Strategy Zone Online and others?
The Depot is a great site but so are the others. Try some lateral thinking and approach to things.

The new proposed OOB from Michael Wood:
I think what he has suggested as well as from the comments I have seen about the place about it, it will appear to be a great asset to the game.

The only proviso is include CSV input output.
NO I am not going into a detailed discussion about what type of CSV to use. That if anyone really wants to know is Michael’s decision.

YES I do know what I am talking about as at least I have written my own OOB editor.

What Michael has proposed is even better than what is already available from anyone.

Time for Something New - Wanna help?:
Well Wild Bill, I think it’s about time a good pacific campaign was done.
To be honest I doubt there I anyone better to run the show. GO MAN GO!!

Sorry but the USMC is not my best background.

I would have only one suggestion and that is to use a redesigned MOD for the UMSC forces, just for this. I know that ‘Gunny’ has worked on his for ages so it could be a good place to promote his great and dedicated work in this area.
Again just a mere suggestion.

Well I suppose I could push fro some more NG stuff, e.g.: Milne Bay, (at least there were some, though few, US troops there)

End of my little rant:
On that note this rat is off to a nice warm place, 35+ and sunny, also nice HOT dry north wind, sound nice enough?
Yes you could fry an egg on a tank track cover here at present..

I agree with your sentiments, Rat. Anyone who participates at the Depot exclusively is missing out on other great sites, and resources. SZO/ACG is a wonderful site, and Double Deuce has done amazing things with the SP area. Obviously, this site is the home site of the game, and should be checked regularly for news, updates, etc, not to mention helping out those just starting the game.

Hippies !
Ho Hum..I see someone is out of touch ..

Lest look at it a bit

Real hippies fly without a joint.
Only modern pretend one need a substance to make this sort thing of happen.Real Hippies DONT AGE

Real hippies know peace is not made but putting flowers in rifle barrels.

Real hippies know peace is made by thinking positively and being diligent and prepared.

Real hippies believed in Peace because they think laterally, positivley and are diligent in being prepared.

Real hippies believed in Love as it IS part of communication, not just a base actions.

So Peace and Love to all !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let’s start a bit before the modern concept of the hippy.
Fist look at this extract from wikipedia.

It’s a part extract of the term Hippy:
“Hippies of the time,[sic 60s,70s], were interested in "tuning in to their inner minds" (with or without drugs, mystic meditation) and improving mainstream society. Influence in hippie culture is sometimes akin to Eastern religions, philosophies, and associations”

The real reality is that the concept of the tuning in to their inner minds without drugs, the use of ‘mystic’ meditation and in many cases using the basis of both old Mystic European and Eastern religions and associated philosophies was well and truly in operation before the so called hippy revelation of the 60s and 70s.

The use of Hippy in my post is for your benefit only. These people, pre 60s & 70s were not called Hippies but their practices were in some ways ‘akin’ and a loose association as well, to the Hippy as you know them.

Their practices are different and they are what could be called Real Hippies.
Also note they are not the “sit on a mountain and mediate” but were part of mainstream life. This was a totally different approach on life to the so called modern hippy.

So any assumption on your part I picking on you is unfortunately a personal assumption. I am just stating a fact of life; the way things were and are.

So in reality your quick quip is the basis of a nominal level of fact ..

Scary !!!

At that point it would be best to leave this discussion out of the forums as its well off topic…

How we ever got from forums, campaigns and mods to Hippies is a little beyond me, so I'll bring us back to now, or try to do so.

I hesitate to use mods, DR, because not everyone, in fact, the majority of SP players just don't use them. I guess, like the Marines, I'll adapt to the situation. The Corps is great, but so is every branch of the service.

I'm thankful for Jarheads, Dogfaces, Swabbies, jet-jockies (what nicname do they give the Coast Guard) and all branches of the military that serve, fight and sometimes suffer for their service.

DD is talking about an Army Campaign in the Pacific. Good news! The 1st Cav was a powerful force in retaking the Philippines.

My dream is also to do a campaign on the 92nd Tank Battalion in the early days of WW2 in the US/Filipino defense of the Philippine Islands. Now THAT is going to make a great campaign.

Thanks for your encouragement , DR. I appreciate it and take it to heart.

WB

I learn and enjoy from all the SP related web-sites I have visited. I'm amazed that so many are around and thriving, even until today. Yes, visit them all. Read and learn. Comment when you want. Make noise. Let folks know that this gaming jewel is still alive and well, now 11+ years old, which in computer gaming is almost unheard of.

She has served us well and continues to do so. Thus a deserved salute to Gary Grigsby, Michael Wood, Tom Proudfoot and the many others who have continued to make attempts to improve the game.
