I'm embroiled in a war with Turkey for the moment. Playing as Sweden this isn't exactly part of my overall plan, but the Turks just won't agree to a cease-fire so we battle it out in Holstein every ten turns or so - with me as the victor, of course (they keep sending relatively small armies that are easy to dispatch).

Anyway, lately something funny has been going on in my home provinces in Sweden and Finland. Turkish guerilla units have appeared out of thin air. It's happening every few turns - a turkish guerilla unit or two shows up in one of my home provinces.
Why in the world does this happen?
It's not supposed to, is it? Enemy guerilla units only spawn in their own home provinces, right?

I am at the moment trying to generate some guerilla units of my own with a diplomat placed in a province Turkey has taken - and the magic guerillas in Sweden started appearing at about the same time I set my diplomat to work... Could the game be messing these things up?
As far as I know, by the way, Turkey has at no time had a diplomat in one of my provinces...

Already there seems to be something wrong as the Political Goals for my country (the button found on the left on the economy sheet) gives me negative points for letting the "enemy" hold Malmø, Gothenburg and Karlskrona - which is strange as I've held these provinces (my home provinces) since turn one.
Also according to my Political Goals I'm supposed to take a handful of provinces in Italy which doesn't make much sense to me either...

So, can anyone come up with a rational explanation of this - or should I just accept it as a game-hickup and live with it, perhaps start a new game...?

1) The objectives is just a list with the amount of glory lost or gained. It is not a refelction of the current status of the map.

2) I'm surprised at the guerilla thing. I would think that the guerillas would only be generated if you were occupying a part of Turkey. There is a previous thread that has discussed at length the guerilla problem. ALthough it discussed mainly the Spanish guerillas. You might post in the limited feedback area to draw Eric's atention to this. The guerilla's seem to be a major annoyance to many. I for one have not experienced it to the level others have. When fighting Spain or Russia I usually assign a Corps along with several detached divisions to guerilla/cossack duty. Have the Corps attack the province with the guerilla and put divisions in adjacent provinces. You will kill the unit if they have no place to retreat to. Otherwise at least force them to retreat out of your country.

I haven't heard any reports of guerillas generated in enemy provinces -- is it possible they're just moving there out of the FOW?

We are considering ways of changing the guerilla rules based on player feedback -- limiting the total number of guerillas, and making guerillas much less effective outside of the home territory.

Well, I guess they could have sneaked into my provinces through the back door (from the east through Russia and Finland) but I think this behavior is a bit unrealistic for a guerilla unit - especially one originating from Turkish home provinces...

But it sounds like you are already working on the case, that's good enough for me.
Overall, I like the guerilla idea - and especially when dealing with Russia they should be a real problem as they have always been historically.

And as to my specific guerilla problem, well, as Garoco so eloquently suggested, I killed them off (after chasing them around for 7 or 8 turns - I'll be sure to use those tactics suggested by TexHorns next time...!).
So, for the time being, no more guerilla magic in Sweden.

Thanks for your input!

Jensen
