I begin to think that Hoepner handed you an opportunity when he lost so much stuff at Java.

He will not be able to organize a force powerful enough to hit back while you are working on Russia. That is a huge benefit.

For contrast look at my build up in New Caledonia. If we assume your invasion of Russia starts in May it will certainly take more than 30 days to finish the place off. If you look at my lunacy AAR you can see a lot of detail about the force that could come after Japan in the South Pacific.

Then you have the choice of responding there and weakening the Russian offensive or not responding and watching the Allies advance. But it will take Hoepner until August to reach the force levels I have in June, so you are pretty safe. Also his surface combat fleet is very weak right now which is another big bonus for you.

Tom,

He placed some 60 units on Jawa, big time mistake. He is weak in other places. I am bring to Jawa everything,21,5,18,imp.guards,38,4,56,guards div. from Japan, all regiments, all tank regiments, all eng.units. Jawa will be short work.
I know he cant launch any offensive in south pacific for lets say 6 months. I have 2nd div. and SSD stationed in south pacific and many betty bombers.Recon planes (emilly) is in Rabaul,PM,and Lunga to give me early warning. I feel pretty safe, everything is going weel except China

Judging from this game and from my game with GH, I'd say that GH is much better on the offensive.

Which is good right now. But watch out, never underestimate him.
I think he is a very good attacker, despite his defensive mistakes (or at least that's how I see them).

He has however lost a lot of assests, maybe some too many

"I will need perfect timing. " -Hawker

Your right about that, there are certain similarities between this game and my Lunacy game with Mogami. One is that if the Japanese fall behind the Allies can catch up really quickly. I think that was a critical problem for Mogami, he needed to get troops onto New Caledonia quickly and Manila's long siege prevented that.

Looks like i have to0 big opponent-GAME ENGINE and BUGS!!!.
I am furious, months of careful planning-all for nothing.
If planes start flying now,it doesnt matter anymore-ITS TOO LATE.

I assume morale is high fatigue is low and that despite the weather forcast the AF wasnt closed by a freak tornado ?

I also assume you have sufficient fighters to escort your bombers and that the aircraft are ordered to a non ground attack mission i.e. AF attack ?

It happens to me too. The planes simply refuse to take off for no reason. Supply is OK, weather is clear and all the requirements seems (at least to me) to be ok. But what really upset me is the fact that the game DO NOT tell why the planes do not take off. It would be sufficient a short message in the operation reports, like "air group XY does not take off from Batavia because of insufficent supply reqirements". Next turn I would try to fix the problem. The game instead tells noting and you have to guess where the problem is, losing precious time (time for japan is the most valuabel resource).

Bye

Fundamentally, NEVER count upon an LBA attack to be the "key" to some operation. The only time that you can count on LBA or any other air attacks is on the very first turn of a game because the weather is always set to "clear" on the first turn.

I think that next game I start I will insist on having "advanced weather effects" set to "off".

Take care -

Fighter planes are set to escort bombers to target destination and with enough range allowed to reach target?

Happened to me that my fighter escorts were not having sufficient range allowed when I wanted to hit a target with escorted bombers (just because you mentioned that they were on training mission before, maybe with "0" range?).

Things get even worse.
I moved away some planes to other AF and now i have 500 planes in Mutankiang and 500 planes in other airport. This is overstacking but GH overstacks all the time.
Guess what, nates take off along with oscars but zeros didnt!!!
Off course nates are decimated.
One more thing,
I encounter north off Vladivostok one Russian unit. My 7000APs against one unit,i win but this unit didnt retreat south,is this some kind of joke.
This whole Russia thing sucks and bugs are everywhere.
I cannot fight that,i even spend PPs to convert some zeros to Kwantung with no result.
After Jawa i am going to defence,i wont surrender but war is over anyway.Russia is activated and he can destroy my industry in Japan easy.My aircrafts has no wish to fly and i am doomed.
I put all efforts and hopes in this Russia thing,i will try one more time, but defeat is inevitable

Vladivostok is also a level 9 airfield. I'm sorry to say this but oversights and having bad luck doesn't count as bugs.

And you can never know how many Hoepners missions don't fly, you get no notification for them and I doubt he would tell you that for example, he has 2435 B-29's on Iwo Jima but they have refused to fly for the last 3 turns.

BTW, do you have clouds turned on? I was thinking that my planes didn't fly in clear weather either, then I discovered that I had somehow turned clouds off, and actually most of the time, if not all, my bases had been rained in. Even with clear broadcasts, occasional clouds can still happen.

Before you really lose your temper,

1) Japanese air units won't fly against Soviet targets before the border is crossed. You can't bomb Russia the first turn of the war. It's not a bug but a (bad IMOO) game design.

2) the Soviet unit you attack N of Vladivostok is a static fortress unit and can't retreat, it will eventually surrender, like did surrounded units, but will be as tough as Chinese to destroy. They usually will last some days or a week. You have to get trough fortifications and it is costing time.

3) from a overstacked airfield, 25% and then 50% of AC won't fly, according to manual, depending of the overstacking. It seems to me that the 50% penalty never applies, or maybe it is 50% of the AC above the maximum allowed that don't fly, but one thing I am sure is that the penalty is applied to whole units and not to 25% of all units in the field. And as always in WITP the game is ordering the units by database orders and Nates units have lower DB numbers than Zeroes so they are under the AF limitation while Zeroes are wholly suffering of it (they are the 25 or 50% units grounded). Again it is bad design rather than a real bug.

The best way to neutralize Vladivostok AF is BB, but I think yours are off Java. I will advice you to not use Nates over Siberia at all, Soviet fighters will slaugther them anytime.

Yes, so it's not a good idea to send cruisers or DD but a BB squadron (4+ BBs) will overwhelm CD defenses with very probably no loss, even if one BB or two may get damaged. Especially with the fact that Soviet have no torpedoes, no minefields and big Japanese ports are nearby.

Russia is activated month ago,so that rule is accomplished

One more thing to add,
Imperial HQ decide that after Jawa main forces of Southern area army will set sail to HK.I gathered 250 transport ships at Jawa.
Idea is surprise,he will be very surprised when he see 10 elite divisions of Southern area in China.
With this i will kick him out from China and secure Russia invasion.
I must do that becouse my position in China is vulnerable and he may try counterattack there.
Beecouse of losses he suffered in Jawa he wont be able to any counter-attack in DEI while Southern area army deals with those poor chinese
