Im playing as Japan, with custom upgrade = on, and I wonder what to do with the divebombers?

In China you have respectable number of divebombers, a mix of Ki-30 Ann, Ki-32 Mary, Ki-51 Sonia. As I can se it in China the Mary and Ann are preferable because of the higher bombload.

So why switch to the Sonia with the shortest range and lowest bombload and lowest endurance. Ok it have armor and higher manuver(+4) and durability(+4). But as I figured it out the bombload determins the damage done and not to say that the range is valuable.

In my experience you dont need to worry about heavy flak or CAP in China.

So my questions are as follows :
Shall I upgrade Ann and Mary to Sonia or shall I go for the punch and upgrade them to all to Lilys? The default path is Ann--> Sonia ; Mary --> Lily; Ann --> NONE.

Theres a posibility to change some to Helen bombers and they pack quite a punch!

Or shall I use them as they are, that is let them stay in the old model and maybe covert a small factory to Ann.

And one last question : is there any bonus/penalties for divebombers in the game?

If you plan on bombing the chinese in stock scenaryo's, use the Ki-51 for bombing ground units and the Mary's for ASW patroll....

If you have PDU ON:

Go from Mary--> Lily---> Ki-21.

I do believe that dive bombers have an accuracy bonus in the game because they always bomb from 2000 feet. This also makes them more vurnerable to AA fire......

Why go for the K-21 Sally instead of Ki-49 Helen?

And is there any arguments for keeping them as Divebombers.

well I hate allied players changing everything to 4E so I don't go with DB to Helen
I find that I need few ASW groups in rear areas so I recommend switching them to Lily and keeping in rear bases - later you can change to Randy - and it will be time when you will need them more then Helens

Why should I need Randies more than Helens?

because you you have enough army bombers and always not enough fighters - at least after 42
it is medicore FB but you need high durability fighters to protect bases against 4E bombers
tony/tojo and later ones are good for air superiority but 2E fighter seems to be best against bombers

Totally agree with you Sneer.

Sally is fine bomber too and it will be enough when you expanding your territory. Later you will need good fighters so concentrate on them, train them in rear bases to exp. 80+ and you maybe stand a chance later in war.

This PDU thing is a bit gamey, try to remain historical and win or die with honor(without PDU)

I use
Mary -> lily ( only rear bases - basicly asw duty - just to use existing planes- factories are converted to other types) -> randy(anti bomber - rear base)
I have enough sallys and helens and with time passing they will be less needed
DB should be particullary effective in destroying equipment - art/tanks but I don't see that -all equals to bomb load and that's why DB has no use for me- except Ann on ASW duty
so part is converted to Ann - later Mary - till stocks will be used
and rest to lily with usage shown above

good point. I haven´t thought about using fighter bombers against Allied heavies. But won´t they be eaten alive by Allied escort fighters?

will be but you have too few fighters to cover all bases so you need to use everything you have
also you may use opportunity and fight out of range allied 1E fighters
I know - p-38 but there is no good idea about them - just mass as many fighters you can
good idae is keeping FB in industry /resource bases in defense duty
it should be a good platform against PT boats too
