It has to be the KV-2!!
Surprisingly, I read that only 334 were built.

Off topic since this is a WWI era tank but ...

Weight: c. 40 tons
Length: 17,8 m
Height: 10 m
Width: 9 m
Crew: 10
Gun: 2 + 2/7,92 mm
Engines: 2x240 hp
Speed: 17 km/h

"The bizarre "Tzar-tank" was built in 1915. It was probably the largest (40 tons) tank ever made anywhere. Two huge wheels were driven by one 250 hp motor each. Two minor wheels were in the rear. The guns were probably placed outside the wheels. This photo and the drawings (post below) give different shapes and positiosn of the crew's cabin. Two prototypes were made but the insufficient trial (stuck in the mud) and heavy costs closed the project in 1916. The photo shows a wreck without wheels in the rear. The last of the two was dismateled for scrap in 1923."

That rare tank Mau Fox posted was nicknamed the 'tricycle tank' by the Soviets. As Mau said, only a few were made but there was one actually used in combat during Goworow's counterattack at Leningrad in August 1942. The tricycle was not supposed to be used in combat, just as an attraction to citizens in Leningrad but engineers struggled to make it operational during the very desperate seige of Leningrad so it saw a very brief bit of action. It destroyed one panzer III, a stug, 2 trucks and one mortar position before the Germans stopped it with concentrated fire from AT guns and artillery. What's even more odd, is it was used in one of the most mobility prohibiting areas of the eastern front, but this of course wasn't planned. The Germans later commented that the shock factor of the tricycle's wacky appearance coupled with its odd shape made targeting difficult. In addition the very high position of the gun and commander made it very easy to see and target enemy units.

The Germans were certainly lucky this piece of art was not put into production.

If this was a competition, Mau Fox should be the winner. What that picture shows looks more like a bird nest than a tank.

Did the field manual for this tank specify that it should be kept hidden during hunting season?

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD WHAT THE **** IS THAT???

It looked like Stalin just said "just take a chassis and stick the biggest god-damn artillery gun you can possibly find on top".

Doesn´t it tip over if has to go sideways on a slope? Looks like it´s center of gravity is real high.

I´m too scared to read the rest of the thread if this is just the warm-up.....

I've frequently been thinking about this, and have reached similar conclusions: the KV-2 is indeed extremely ugly, looks like one of the tanks a guy in my school drew aeons ago. Having also considered the Tzar tank, I don't find it particularly ugly, but rather quite funny. Generally, though, it is much easier to find ugly tanks in WWI. Renault FT 17 was still in use in WWII at certain locations, so I guess that makes it a candidate. Other WWI candidates would be A7V and St. Chamond, but they probably were no longer at the time :).

The japanese engineering tank is very funny, I hadn't seen that one before.

FT 17: http://www.panzerbaer.de/types/pix/f_pzwg_renault_FT-17-001.JPG
A7V: http://www.waffenhq.de/panzer/a7v_05.jpg
St. Chamond: http://www.commanderseries.com/armor/1055-STCHAM.jpg

Other tanks exist that are quite aesthetically displeasing, but if their ugliness stems from scariness (e.g. Mark IV), they don't really count in this competition IMHO. Sorry about all the WWI stuff, but I can't find that many ugly ones from WWII. The Sturmtiger is somewhat ridiculous because of its large gun.

What? Did they need to remove the turret to get in?

Oh cool, drive with turret or without turret.

That Taliban assault car has alone been more effective than many tanks, or even armies.

I know it isnt a tank nor is it ugly. I would just hate to meet this in a dark ally on the way home from a heavy nite of binge drinking.
