XFL was a joke but was still better than the CFL where they added yards (or maybe meters) to the length of the field and you got points just for trying a field goal.

Baseball is the one true sport. Sad that Japan and Cuba did best in the WBC which got less coverage than the World Cup.

Haven't seen CFL for years. We did receive local broadcasts of it when i was a kid (Toronto
being within broadcast distance), and as i recall, the field has always been bigger (100
meters long, i think). We never watched the games, though - at least in the 50s and 60s,

Factors needed to be a good sport:

1. Size and stregth are less important than skill. This eliminates American football and basketball where all you need to be good is to be 300lb or 7ft tall.

2. There are no ties. This eliminates European football and hockey.

3. No funny outfits. This eliminates golf, which is a game, not a sport.

Thus, the only true sport is baseball. QED.

Now, now, lots of other things would qualify under these rules... and baseball MIGHT be knocked out under rule 3... but, assuming that much leeway in dressing, tennis would qualify (latest trend, at least in Women's tennis is to eliminate as much clothing as possible...)

EDIT: are you talking TEAM sports only here? Tennis did have a Team Tennis League, but it never caught on...

Why, the semi-logical opposite of Mr. Bump, of course.

So, if there were a sudden death "shootout" - would E.F. then be a sport??

Only if it involved real guns

It is hard to tell the exciting 0-0 games from the dull 0-0 games.

i dunno - arguing about sports is sorta like arguing about religion, and i think the two are about equivalent...

personally i am not in favor of organized religion/sports - just disorganized religion/sport such as The Thread...

Seems like a lot of Jap fanboys around here. I think it's time to take sides, or at least have a poll:

It's the unofficial, official, declare your intentions poll of all Threadians. Are you:

A. A rabid Jap fanboy, with secret fantasies of sipping saki while watching a Hawian sunset?
B. A rabid Allied fanboy, with deep desire to be popping open a cold one in the Emperors gardens (and watering the bushes )?
C. You go both ways as you are just a total lush?

A all the way!

I'm a D...

D): A Kill-Every-Whining-Fanboy-Fanboy. You entertain fantasies of getting in an Abrams tank, finding a fanboy, driving back and forth over him eight times whilst giggling like a maniacal pre-teen schoolgirl, and then go find some more fanboys with which to repeat the process.

Which leads to options E and F:

E: A anti-sarrcastic-flyman-fanboy, where you dream of squashing overly sarcastic fly-men with a 12,000 horse power titanium, cyanide laced, barbed flyswater.
F. An anti-maniacle-preteen girl-fanboy, where you dream of dousing afore mentioned in gasoline and lighting them on fire.

Still A, although you're beginning to make me nervous.

*Tuesday morning tithe

Revising Rupd's requirements for a good sport.

1. The players can't be more efeminite than the cheerleaders and there should be lots of good looking cheerleaders, this leaves out European Football.
2. Body contact should not be illegal, unless it is the San Francisco variety. THis leaves very few sports, just hockey and American football.
3. Players should have most of their teeth left - which leaves just American football.
4. Stadiums should serve premium beer for $2.50 or less - which eliminates all sports.
