Some general rules of supply that I would recommend for new players (and for players who don't want to unduly worry about the details of supply);

Don't worry about the exact numbers in the circles. Instead, focus on keeping your axes of advance along railroads and roads. This is really the fundamental idea behind supply. Try to keep HQ units near their subordinates where possible.

Conversely, if you worry about ONE thing in the supply side of the game, worry about your supply sources. They are the blue or red circles, usually at the edge of the maps (or in cities) which are the fountainheads of your supply. Protect them and watch for enemy movements around them. Think about capturing enemy supply sources when possible.

Supply can be blocked by enemy ZOC's. Watch for your enemy to surround your units to temporarily put them out of supply. A few turns without supply will cripple even the most elite units.

Finally, never let supply come before tactical necessity. If you have to go through a swamp with almost no supply in order to bag a large group of enemy units...do it.

In short, supply can be a major headache if you spend too much time worrying about it. I never sit there and examine supply (I use the view which only shows supply sources) or worry about formulas. As long as my supply lines are feeding me tins of spam, my offensive is go!

There is a lot of great info in here. Thanks.

Question:
I noticed sometimes when I am viewing supply, a supply number circle will not appear in the same hex as unit icon. Although for sure 100% it's a supplied hex. Why is this? Bug?

Also, is there a hotkey for toggling the supply views? If not, that would be a nice one to have.
