Okay you guys, I know I have not been here for a week. We went on vacation. The photo below shows where. It was a hazy day.

I hope this is the only thing he is using hampsters for. Seattle is just north of San Francisco you know.

Those would be gerbils youre referring to. (Grew up in West Hollywood, CA...I know a lot of things I'd rather not know).

One for the "What the Thread!?" catagory. The link's title says it all:

http://articles.news.aol.com/news/_a/doctors-remove-lightbulb-from-mans-anus/20060629073509990018?cid=

Oooh - this brings up weird memories...

i used to work in a hospital (that shall remain nameless) in Bethesda, Maryland, and one of my jobs was to describe specimens from the OR.

And one day, i got a specimen labelled something like "specimen from rectum" - and it was a jar (apparently unopened) of Grey Poupon mustard... (and yes, there was a little poop on it!) Bunches of people came down to view this specimen.

It has a bad ending - a couple of months later, the same patient had a fluorescent lightbulb removed from the same aproximate area - which was broken, and lacerated stuff, requiring a near-total colectomy iirc (removal of the colon).

Yes. My wife and I wanted to go. We both went to Sumpter and yesterday she dropped me off at Patriots' point for 2 1/2 hours when she went to llok for sea grass baskets. Two samples below from trip.

Ouch.

I have often wondered, upon hearing these stories, what the motivation was behind stuffing foreign objects in there, but I always rest in the comfort of knowing that NOT knowing is far, far better.

Did you get to Ft. Moultrie? I find it much more interesting than Sumter because it has a long history of the coastal defenses in the area.

Well, my boss called back just a bit ago after the big "announcement" - he laid on the reassurances really heavily, and said it would probably a week before things actually were settled as to what they were going to offer. So, i'll wait another week...

No, HE doesn't have pointy hair, but his new bosses might... my current boss has been appointed to reign over us docs for 3 months. The problem is my current boss doesn't have say so it what is going to happen (but has been making recommendations). We shall see (color me unhappy for now).

No. My wife really wanted to go to Ft Sumpter. If we go back (it's only about a 6 1/2 hour drive from here) I want to get to Ft Moultrie.

We were there 4 days and I do not believe I met one native Charlestonian. The only one I know is the pastor of our church.

The hotel we were at had web TV, but I didn't feel like paying 10 dollars a day for it when we weren't in the room that much. It was, however, a nice hotel right in the middle of the historic district.

In the academy they made us view photos of a crime scene. There was blood everywhere and a naked dead man in his 50s on the floor. They asked us cause of death and we guessed shooting/stabbing/ ect. Then they showed us the body cleaned up. No holes that he did not start out with. Then they showed the autopsy photos.

Apparantly this guy had a thing for inserting foreign objects into his neather regions. In this case it was a glass 16 oz jar of Jiffy peanut butter that had broken and ruptered his artery causing him to expire. They then showed photos of all the other objects in his collection that had made the trip in the past. The sad thing was that this was just before lunch and being poorly paid recuits most of us had brought peanutbutter sandwiche for lunch.

The one thing I have learned in my 18 years as a cop is that no matter how odd you may think you are there is someone out there much much weirder.

Heh. Most cops I know would scarf down a few pb&j sandwiches in a particularly messy manner just to see if they could gross someone out after vieweing that lovely bit. Suffice it to say I think cops have a weird sense of humor....cops and computer programmers....

About to fire up WITP for my weekend turns (alas, reduced to doing WITP stuff on weekends until things return to "normal" - hopefully in August.)

Snake front news:

MOST of the Snakes here at the Money Pit are turning out to be non-poisonous snakes of the genus Nerodia. These are collectively known as "water snakes", and come in different flavors:

Plainbelly water snake (Nerodia erythrogaster transversa

Yellow-belly water snake Nerodia erythrogaster flavigaster;

Diamondback water snake Nerodia rhombifer.

While non-poisonous, these guys have a nasty disposition. They get up to 48 inches long, and the ones i've seen pics of are this size. All three of these types of water snakes have been swimming around in the little water holes of the drying-up creek.

However, the really BIG guy (6 feet plus) whom my wife has named "Mr. Hiss" - we still think is a water mocassin. He hasn't been seen in at least a week, though. This is the one i posted the pic of.

Other stuff that hangs out around the creek: the bobcat, a large racoon, white herons and green herons. We also have an assortment of hawks, owls (not seen but heard), coyotes (not recently) and buzzards.

As of right now, according to nasa.gov, the countdown clock is at T-3 hours and holding. This is a scheduled hold for IMU (Interial Measurement Unit) calibration and alignment.
